They're supposed to be called Spirals... well in the translated Manga they're called spirals... I'm not sure, maybe it's because when I hear the word "Vortex" I don't really really think of it as equaling the word "Spiral."

i have already finished the manga and it give me nightmares for 2 days,. it's very weird and in the manga,. the snail people has been eaten by some people infected with spiral.. i was shocked with that part,.
The comic was awesome, The artist that drew it is a master of Asian style Bauhaus...
It's like a more adult/Mature version of Japanese Identity/Consumerism and the weird trends that happen in large groups...
In America things like body alteration and cults aren't that big but in japan, because of the amount of people that there are you have MILLIONS of people doing things for social popularity, and if your there amongst them when the culture wave hits then it's like the comic...
The movie sounds so creepy and cool, but I'd rather rent it first and see it before I shell out $30 'cause I'm aprehensive of how I might take the violent scenes...I'm a scaredy-cat... ^_^0
@TriforceWarrior You might want to check out the manga at your library first. If they don't have it, they might be able to order it. Although if you scare easily, you might want to avoid it altogether because... well... just take my word for it.

....i bet one day some one is going to decide to make uzumaki a movie in america...or any of junji ito's manga's even though americans have done a good job making the asian horror films in america they are actually scarier i have to admit....
If you have originally read the manga -- you will be GREATLY disappointed by this movie. I nearly wanted to cry, they butchered the story so terribly. If you haven't read the manga, do so. It's also called Uzumaki -- By Junji Ito. He's genius.

omg!!! That's sooo unfair! Shuichi was such a handsome guy in the manga, and in the movie he sucks!!! Not to mention Kirie, but, nah, the actress is kAwaii.
The manga is really scary. Gotta say that the scariest chapter for me was "Jack in the box". My fave chapter is "Completion". I just love the moment Shuichi and Kirie embrace each other and stay united <3.

@DemonWarp65 My friend got me the 1st volume of the manga for my birthday. I read either the 2nd or 3rd (whichever one where people were turning into snails) in the bookstore and had a nightmare D:. I never get nightmares...
the reason for the movie not finishing the same as the manga (wich is infinitely more awesome than the movie) is because the movie started production at the same time as the maga was being written, so there was no ending to the manga when the movie was released. I highly recommend the manga to people who are interested, it's just better and freaks me out even to this day ( dont' trust the spirals!)
@amyourpapi23 it is a horror story based off of a town driven mad by spirals, soon the spirals start to invade their life as well and kill people, some are turned into snail people(as shown) and even the herione is affected when her hair spirals up and hypnotizes anyone who veiws it, it seems alot was taken out and i highly recomend the book it is truly chilling
@parapara73 I read the entire manga and it was really good. I highly recommend that those who haven't read it MUST read it! Though I must issue a warning to those with weak hearts and those easily influenced by horror not to read it. It can get very chilling. Especially when you can never look at spirals the same way again after reading >)
OMG When I went to go to the bathroom to take a bath I needed a friend to sit in the toilet listening to her Ipod while I was behind the curtains taking a shower. It was so embarrising, and I was scared like shit.
Guys I've watch a lot of Asian Horror, Thriller and other sorts of weirdness, and to tell you honestly, I think this is one that is not worth watching. Highly disappointing really, but the manga is really awesome please read it.

@TrueDeathless It plays out like one, too. But it's actually pretty interesting, once you get beyond the initial start. Though the whole thing isn't really explained in the end it's actually based on a manga series by the same name. I kinda wondered if maybe the manga had more of an answer to it. =x
No two hour movie could ever do Uzumaki justice. I hate mangas and comics in general, but I was blown away by this story and everything by Junji Ito so far. Skip the movie and buy the books.

The original comic is exciting. But to enjoy this you have to know of Uzume mystic from Amaterasu legend.

the reason for the movie not finishing the same as the manga (wich is infinitely more awesome than the movie) is because the movie started production at the same time as the maga was being written, so there was no ending to the manga when the movie was released. I highly recommend the manga to people who are interested, it's just better and freaks me out even to this day ( dont' trust the spirals!)

@amyourpapi23 it is a horror story based off of a town driven mad by spirals, soon the spirals start to invade their life as well and kill people, some are turned into snail people(as shown) and even the herione is affected when her hair spirals up and hypnotizes anyone who veiws it, it seems alot was taken out and i highly recomend the book it is truly chilling

@parapara73 I read the entire manga and it was really good. I highly recommend that those who haven't read it MUST read it! Though I must issue a warning to those with weak hearts and those easily influenced by horror not to read it. It can get very chilling. Especially when you can never look at spirals the same way again after reading >)

Guys I've watch a lot of Asian Horror, Thriller and other sorts of weirdness, and to tell you honestly, I think this is one that is not worth watching. Highly disappointing really, but the manga is really awesome please read it.

But I have to say that I was dissapointed on the movie. It is a good movie. But the manga beats up the movie like hell lol.
Wonder if they'll ever make a movie with the vampire babies...hope so! ...even if I'll be freaked out for weeks :'D

this movie sucked huge monkey balls. its a piece of crap.i wasted 16 dollars on this, i wouldnt pay 5 dollars on this if i knew before hand. this movie really sucks. it took me about three tries to watch this movie i kept falling asleep. this movie sucks as much as "Disaster movie". just read the manga its fucking amazing and fucks your head up and makes you become partially obsessed with spirals.

i read the manga and though it wasnt super scary but i still have this slight paranoia of spirals now. this fear doesnt go BOO! it creeeps and lays in your subconcious playing you just at the moment you think you forgot about it

@TrueDeathless It plays out like one, too. But it's actually pretty interesting, once you get beyond the initial start. Though the whole thing isn't really explained in the end it's actually based on a manga series by the same name. I kinda wondered if maybe the manga had more of an answer to it. =x

No two hour movie could ever do Uzumaki justice. I hate mangas and comics in general, but I was blown away by this story and everything by Junji Ito so far. Skip the movie and buy the books.
