  • NO dislikes.

  • Gangs is sooo overrated. Daniel day lewis was the only one who held the film. Cape fear was even a better film. Dont get me wrong, Im a huuuuge scorsese fan, but gangs didnt hit me like it did his 70's films.

  • @placebo4yo no, it's not...I agree that Lewis was incredible and should've got an award...but there were a number of great performances....I'd even say that Leo did a good job, even Cameron did as well. The scenenery and costumes did it for me. I think it was better than The Departed which to me, was overrated.

  • @PeterMayer I agree with the art direction. But... I like departed more. But I liked the original Departed more which was Internal Affairs.

  • the king of comedy was his masterpiece by far!

    j/k

  • the departed was his best movie and THE best movie in tv production history

  • @roeroe305 nope, sorry...that would be Raging Bull & Goodfellas...

  • @PeterMayer i need to watch those movies then before i make a statement like that lol

  • Gangs is a film you will either love or hate. Personally I totally love it and I believe it's Scorsese's most underated movie.

  • sorry, but gangs of new york was rubbish.

  • @LevitskiSRGE ohhhh it was rubbish was it now?

  • Goodfellas was his best.

  • think shutter Island is not as good as I anticipated... But still Marty all the way... I did like Ruffalo and the music in the movie.... Kubrikian... lol.

  • Does anybody else get the impression that Scorsese wanted "Gangs" to be his "magnum opus" and didn't get what he wanted?

  • My list of Scorsese's (My favourite Director of all time from order)

    1. Goodfellas (My Number 1 film)

    2. The Last Temptation of Christ (True feat of film making)

    3. Raging Bull (His finest film since Taxi Driver at the time)

    4. Casino (Possibly his more violent and deceiving film made)

    5. The Aviator (A film of strong ambition, dreams and passion)

    6. The Departed (The modern Goodfellas adapted by Hong Kong Crime Thriller Infernal Affairs)

  • @FilmReviewGuy123 The Departed was ok. Too many characters, too many known stars. Gangs I thought was much better. And I would tie Goodfellas and Raging Bull.

  • i just can't wait for shutter island!

  • I agree. Scorsese thriller? Count me in!

  • Just watch Cape Fear..it will definitley hold you over....

  • What do you call The Aviator. or even the Departed? Maybe not classics, but as you say. "good"... that they exceed.

  • ok the departed was a movie that gave me hope again for hollywood after 2 years we saw another masterpiece in cinema. Yes you can say it wasnt a classic but it was a masterpiece there is absolutely nothing wrong with the movie

  • Yes, your absolutely correct. Though it took me a while, i've even begun breaking apart this movie from head to toe, and it is by all question a great movie. Though I was only commenting on on Freakster1970's comment and defending the film, rather then bashing it.

  • The Location.

  • the location adds so much to the movie, i live in boston and i understand so much about it

  • Im sorry i didnt mean to be rude but - for me- weather and the beauty of a city has soo much to do with the overall feeling of a film- Casino for example had the bright lights and beautiful Dessert scenes.

  • It's not that he hasn't made good films recently. The Aviator and The Departed are both good, if not, great films. But they still don't measure up to Taxi Driver or Raging Bull. I'm excited for Shutter Island though.

  • Scorsese is the BEST!!!

People who write negative comments about him or his work are just jealous, envious of his extreme talents.

We know few people in his entourage and Mr. Scorsese himself. A generous man filled with sensitivity and just talented. Love all his movies

  • The reason why Gangs of New York is the best Scorsese movie is largely due to Daniel Day-Lewis.

  • Sorry, but, even though I love Gangs of NY, it is NOT the best Scorsese.

Scorsese's best movies are (in no particular order): Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and Goodfellas.

  • Couldn't agree with you more.

In my opinion The Departed and Gang's of NY are rubbish.

Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas are masterpeices.

  • departed was his best, i know taxi driver, raging bull, and goodfellas i love all of them but departed was too fukin perfect

  • It was amazing

  • I disagree. Gangs Of New York is underratted. It is a harder movie because it's a period piece.

  • What about The Age Of Innocence, Mean Streets, Bringing Out the Dead,The Last Temptation of Christ? Why only like the films that everyone likes. Raging Bull and Goodfellas and those are great but their popular really watch his other films before only mentioning the typical norm titles.

  • "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" are Scorsese's definitive masterpieces; yet "Mean Streets" and "The Departed" are my personal favorites.

  • Oh no, I agree, I just feel like alot of people don't know what they're talking about and only mention the obvious titles. Personally all his films except for maybe the color of money are either good, very good or great films. that includes his docs, yes he is just that fascinating of a filmmaker. I also really liked Alice doesn't live her anymore.

  • The only picture of his I found particulatrly dissapointing was "Bringing Out the Dead", stylistically Scorsese almost replicated the atmosphere of "Taxi Driver" for the movie. The movie marked Paul Schrader and Martin Scorsese's fourth collaboration together.

  • Why did you find Bringing Out The Dead disappointing? I love it, you just have to put Taxi Driver out of your mind. And try to forget what a numbskull Nicolas Cage is. It's a great movie, if not a classic.

  • @BunchofMovieVideos I thought that was a bore.

  • @PeterMayer I loved it.

  • @UnspokenRequest I love Gangs. I thought it was much better than The Departed.

  • @UnspokenRequest Couldn't agree more !!!

  • @UnspokenRequest Also... I think "The Aviator" is up there on the "authenticity factor" alone. Coming from a guy who has OCD, that film actually helped explain to me what was going on with myself when I had no idea and was lost in my suffering. I think any movie that can do that is truly great!

  • @UnspokenRequest

    ...And then Casino...

  • @UnspokenRequest What about Mean Streets and After Hours? These are absolutely amazing too!

  • "There's a hangout for the ugly, young kids."

    Bahaha.

  • bbc's the best

  • challenge?

  • "Gangs" is a fucking masterpiece

  • Gangs of New York is really mediocre. The Departed is utter shite, in comparison with Scorsese's masterpieces, lacking all substance. Can we have a new De Niro, because Di Caprio is an overrated w*nker. I wished he could of stayed at the bottom of the Atlantic.

  • Oh it's rubbish is it? Listen Clive, I don't know if you actually watched the movie, but to call it "rubbish", sod off!

  • Lmao ok then
