  • sounds like opening day of buck season

  • Would a 16in Rock River ar 15 be suitable for this type of competition?

  • This is "Service Rifle" competition. Not an option.

  • I wish you could use a bolt gun, would make things a lot cheaper for me

  • i was there shooting in the eic match for m16s and she has one is that a highpower rifle they didnt call it high powered

  • @evilmatt346 an M16 is a high powered rifle. These are the High Power Rifle Championships.

  • is there a restriction on barrel length? bull barrels? I have a doublestar ar-15, free float tube, 24" barrel. match legal?

  • Not in a Match configuration. 24" is the typical length of most space gun setups.

  • What do you think about .40?

  • Not legal for High Power competition

  • Almost everyone is now 1/4 x 1/4. .30 is a bit small....I forget what I have in there now, but there are so many options, including diopters, available.

  • Do you use 1/4 min X 1/4 min, .030 rear sights or is the 0.30 to small?

  • On the free float tubes used on these rifles the sling swivel is moved from the bottom of the front site to the bottom front of the tube, eliminating the stress.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • If the sling swivel is attached to the barrel and the sling then looped around your bicep that would put stress on the barrel! Makes me wonder would you realy need a free floating barrel.

  • Is the sling swivel attached to the barrel or the top of the handguard?

  • Yes, all the competitive AR15 style rifles use floated barrels. They are not mandatory, just needed to be competitive.

  • Does your rifle have a free float barrel?

  • i cant wait till next year its going to rock representing team oregon 09

  • Whistler Boy

  • Which match was this? President's 100?

  • ask elmer keith, bet most of you dont know who he was !

  • Great outdoorsman who loved the 270 winchester. I believed he praised it over the 30-06.

  • ive collected most of his books they are ace !! im just reading one now , guns and ammo for big game . not a lot of people over here in the uk know who he is !

  • wat is camp perry

  • Camp Perry is an Ohio Army National Guard base where the U.S. National shooting championships are held every summer.

  • I love Camp Perry! It's where I legged out and went Distinguished. (Badge # 1800)

  • I'm #1641....got my final points on my birthday and went on stage a year later again on my birthday.

  • Yup... sure bring back GOOD memories. High Power matches are run almost exactly like we did in the USMC. Outstanding sport and skill.

    Semper Fi.

  • since when is a .223 considered "high power"?

  • Since the round was created.

  • Noticed the second girl shooting has nothing supporting the right elbow. Does the gun seem to cant through the string?

  • It is a bit hard to see in the video, but it is defintely supported. Note how it rests solidly in front of her knee.....Most of us can't bend over past the inside of the knee.

  • Yea it would be nice to be able to bend that far over producing a flatter profile to the ground, creating a more stable position.

  • Keep it up!!

  • errr been in the military, shot with FAL,Uzi(rifleman 1st class) and MAG standing, kneeling and lying down either free hand or supported but never in a crosslegged sitting position.... so i still find it kinda odd....

but hey go ahead,if it get's the job done, why not... =)

  • strange shooting position... sitting crosslegged.....

  • You are obviously not a high power competitor. This and all positions originate from military shooting positions over the past 100 years. You should attend a high power competition clinic and give it a try!

  • highpower is the best, i went to camp perry for the 100th anniversary, I am on the California state team

  • no yr not

  • I always wondered... What's up with those over sized gloves that some of the competitor wear for?

  • The heavy gloves are used by almost all competitors. They both protect the hand against the pressure from the tightened rifle sling and provide a layer between the hand and the hard plastic of the handguard.

  • Hmm I see. Thank you.

  • Considering the number of females winning the Whistler Boy, perhaps a name change is in order? :-) Good job, ladies!

  • I live about an hour and half from Camp Perry.

  • Yep...I was somewhere on that line (ORPA junior) shot a 7 X clean on my alibi run (cause of a jam). You get used to the other shots around you and it does sound like popcorn after a while.

  • Thats what a range sounds like, it aint Hollywood heh, no pun, like really loud popcorn, its the best fun

  • Sounds like popcorn

  • Note that the coach is keeping time with one hand and counting shots with the other.
