  • Cool seen thos hill bunches there really big

  • WAY TO MANY BIBLE THUPERS!!!THIS PLACE SUCKS.REPORTING FROM KEY WEST,FL TO MICHIGAN.

  • I've lived here all my life in the hills, I never once looked and was happy with hurting Her. West Virginia is actually in better shape than most places anymore. You have fresh air any time you want it, you can walk in clean woods. I'm young but I've been many places and not once have I found a place as loving and as welcoming. If I say I'm from West Virginia I get a disgusted look most places I've been but I'll say it anyways. No where will I go and find better home, that has love like Her.

  • i could,nt say all i wanted in the last comment. but you all have to under stand because of this strip mineing. my cousin lost her three year old little boy . when the rains came and the mountains were gone . because of strip mineing. they were no tree,s to keep the water back. was flooding so fast in the whole town . it was like the water just grab that baby sweep him a mile down from.we all need to speak out . its doing to much damage

  • this sure as hell makes me sick my husband was an under ground miner operator any of you who ever worked in boon county might have worked with him his name pat hylton but, i,ll tell you all he is very againest mountain top removeal hey these mountains are what makes west virginia,i cant even show him just how bad it is. he hates it and say,s what can we really do to stop it. yes i like to know . we all that live here should have some say. about what happing here in west virginia,

  • Just say the hill tops were sold for a price. something that can never be bought back. I know people need jobs to live there. But what a price to pay. !

I hope something good comes of it.

And I hope it doesnt become just another area fo urban sprawl.

  • People are so misinformed on Mountain Top Removal. You can never really learn unless you go see it for yourself.

I took my wife to a reclaimed job and she couldn't believe it when I told her it used to be a surface mine.

I'm not some company brain washed fool neither. I just don't believe these lies. All of those jobs weren't even MTR. People don't even know what MTR is and how to distinguish it from any other surface mine. That alone tells you how ignorant and uneducated people are on this.

  • Cancer of the Earth! That's all I have to say. Malicious cells overtaking and destroying existing tissue!

  • Born and Raised here, Itll Allways be home.. Onces here, Allways here.. I Love The Hills Of West Virginia

  • Every picture you showed is of an active mine sight Of coarse its going to look bad. If you want to take an unbiased look at MTR you realy need to see the whole picture and see what the land looks like after it has been reclaimed. Im not going to say that it is as good or better than the orignial topography but in many cases to the untrained eye you could never tell that there was ever a mine there. Many good thing are build on mine land including airports, schools, golf coarses and much more

  • @bmj05 Like my HS :)

  • i am proud to be called a mountaineer

  • Do you people actually think that we dont love this land...We live here...We love here..We raise our families here...we can tell you how the weather will be for the day by looking at the sunrise in the morning..We can read the signs of the wildlife..We can look at a tree and tell you whether or not the lumber from it would be good or not...before theirs ever an axe laid to it..Some say they can actually feel the heartbeat of the land...

  • We raised hell back in the 60's and 70's for strip mine reclaimation..And it cost us alot of jobs..Not because we were radical enviromentalists..But because it was our home..And we wanted to protect it..after the coal was renoved..TYPE IN RECLAIMED STRIP MINES AND LOOK AT THE VIDEOS. These people who come in here and tell us how we should live ought to be the ones ashamed.Where were they when we had families living in poverty? Where were they when we were fighting for good working conditions?

  • Where were these people when men died fighting for an honest wage?..They were getting rich off of the sweat off ours backs..Old joe Kennedy burned our coal in his foundries at Bethlehem Steel during WWI. But that was before he took up bootlegging Canadian Whiskey during Prohibition..Now they come in here, living off of inheritences that we helped to create, and try to tell us how to live. We know mre about this land than any Damned Kennedy ever will..

  • @sumwrnusa i take pride in being called a moutaineer

  • @sumwrnusa shut up you dumb fucking redneck

  • good vidoe love the song good voice but yall who bitch about MTR shut the hell up hot damn whats so bad about they take the moutain top off and get the coal seems and put it right back i mean come on im a third genration coal miner and im fuckin 14 i worked with my dad greasing and fueling theres nothin wrong with it ya damn tree hugers if we didnt hace strip mining there would be NO WEST VIRGINIA no jobs adn its a damn good job to be proud of doing

  • You're a fucking dumbass for saying without MTR there would be no jobs. Real miners go underground to get the coal, and it's a fact that any underground mine employees easily 3 to 4 times as many people as any MTR mine. MTR mines take jobs from hardworking underground miners and then pussies like you come by and strip mine the whole fucking mountain.

Don't kid yourself, real miners work underground.

  • @thorntonj16 I will say that underground miners deserve the greatest respect...but you would be foolish to think the strip jobs are taking jobs away from underground miners. 1. The coal seams taken by strip mining cannot be mined underground. Most of these seams are less than a foot and a half thick, and I don't know very miners, that could fit in a foot and a half hole.

    2. If you could deep mine all these seams, you would never find enough deep miners to mine it. Too dangerous.

  • @thorntonj16 Perhaps a glance in the dumbass mirror is in need. Real miners are men who step up to perform whatever work is available to support their families. They're the same men who take on crab hunting in Alaska and fight the wars of this nation... a miner is simply a man who is willing to DO. Those who work in MTR mines are at the mercy of the big corporations just as those who work underground, stop fooling yourself into thinking the miners have anything to do with the problem.

  • I'm surprised no industry goons have posted and threatened all our lives.

  • I feel every cut those bastards make into my beautiful homestead deep in my soul... Why is this type of rape unpunished by the lawmakers? Mother Earth is screaming for help, but not enough people are listening...

    Stop mountaintop removal!

  • Breaking my heart...

  • Thast disgousting. How could they allow things like that to be done. Its one thing they mess with the economy, way of life, ect....But actual landscape of the state...WTF

  • I have lived here in Northern WV all of my life. The Mountaintop Removal sites are mostly in the southern part of the state but I have visited some of the sites around Madison and it is truely shameful to think we have allowed entire mountains to be blasted away and thee rock and dirt used to fill in river valleys for a non-renewable resource.

This is a beautiful song but I believe a more suitable score for this piece would have been Paradise by John Prine.

  • well jurassic0al ! Us w.v folks think that virginia is a very beutifual place. THe reason we broke boundary lines during the civil war, was simply because we didnt agree with slavery ! And you people did ! I think it is a great thing we divided and took a stand for something that should have never happened in the first place !

  • Not quite that simplistic. Slaves were owned in WV, though not nearly as much as in VA. Further, WV continues to have real problems with race and diversity - it's not splitting off was a magic solution. It's more a matter of coastal planters vs. backwoods yoemen farmers - probably more about class and culture than slavery. And a distant, unresponsive coastal political machine.

  • Thanks for the extra info history. I love to learn new things, and history seems to spark my intrest the most.. I always thought wv and va split due to slavery. Thats what i always got out of our high school teachers.. And your right about present problems with race and diversity, thats still a huge problem here in W.V.

  • What do West Virginians think of Virginians, I wonder? Most Virginia natives I know like the landscape of WV very much, but some, including me, would prefer that there was only one VA. I have also seen and personally feel some resentment over WV leaving and siding with the enemies of the Confederacy during the War Between the USA and the CSA.

Regardless- I was unaware any efforts were being made to destroy WV's beautiful mountains and hills. Could someone tell me more about it?

  • nice song... im doing a project on this and the book im reading makes cutting down mountains look like a good thing.... and its not.

  • This song always makes me cry, especially the third verse, and it's completely because of the mountaintop removal. I find it absolutely horrifying that the governor is knowingly allowing this beautiful song to become a lie. Thank you so much for posting this moving video.

  • It's horrible that they think they can take away our mountains. I did a S.S. project on this and went to the State, I won. It's good to know that some people know about how bad this is.

  • it sad there stripping thehills and there taking its busty away.

  • for give my typing still learning thanks and great song again :)

  • what peaceful and tranquil song. i love the wilderness and outdoors for all my life and always willbe. it reminds of my great grandmas funeral startign out over the hills and peace comes over ya. the outdoors is my life camping hiking fishing and everything else. i couldnt live with her and her marvle, this says it all. wv is a great state and great band thanks.
