@gghelo That sounds cool as hell. I was the only Funk/Hip hop fan in my all-white school in Liverpool, England, back in the late '80s and '90s. Everyone else was into either Heavy Metal, House/Techno or Pop. Things are different these days, with most white kids in my area being into Hip hop. Unfortunately, the standard of the music has dropped dramatically since my childhood, so they're still missing out.
@gghelo Imagine this, I was a Senior at a all white highschool in NE Ohio in 1975 and the only white dude into AWB, got called all sort of names but didn't care!!! ha ha. Rember going home and cranking up "Work to do"
as a young brotha' comin' up back in the day.....I wasn't prepared for this. Funk was a Black man's game I thought. Obviously funk crosses many boundries!! SCOTLAND?!?! Dayumm.....
I just heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago. It's become my favorite. We listened to AWB as kids but I don't remember this one. It sounds sort of like a Prince song when he's hamming it up and being truly funky.
I remember playing this to my very pretty 7th grade teacher and boy did she get a kick out of this! The next day she told me that she told her husband and he wasn't too happy!
Saw them I MArch @ Birchmere in VA met them afterwards took a pic with Alan and got a personal elbow bump from Robbie COOL guys!! Saw them in '76 as well..I missed Hamish, Molly and Roger. If they could unite for a tour I would go to as many dates as I could!!!
@JPHansen59 I was just thinking about that today! it's like how much clearer and cleaner can music get!~what's left after perfection, more perfection? it's not possible, music today It has no depth or body! basically it has become computer TRASH!~ just think about it!~they have took a awesome art form and ran it into a brick wall!~and we can thank Ganster Rap for killing the greatest form of music ever!~ R&B!~
I must have seen every show these guys did in the NYC area in the 70's! Just about the best R&B dance band of the day...someone's got to bring back Funk and R&B, it's too great to let die!
@hankaaron1961 I take it you're not a hip hop fan, and that's ok. I agree, nobody cares that some no talented rapper sampled anything (and plenty have), but my comment specifically mentions two of the best lyrical storytellers ever.

Stop knocking Hip Hop, because it shares elements with Blues, Funk, Country, Soul, and Rock music.
@MrDCDantzler Who cares that some no talented rapper sampled someone else's work of art. I swear, some times people seem to think it' s some sort of amazing ability to know how to press "record".
I remember this song so well from 1975! AWB had two huge hits earlier that year with: Pick Up the Pieces and Cut the Cake. Later that year they had If I Ever Lose This Heaven and this song: School Boy Crush. These last two hits hovered toward the bottom of the Top 40 and I never understood why!? Both School Boy Crush and Heaven should have been much bigger hits!
I'll tell you what happen' to all the real soul bands and muscians--------
"MONEY AND GREED THROUGH ELECTRONIC EXPLOTATION" replaced the true musician. The powers that be and their producers of so-called--- R A P (Repulsive And Pathetic) and Flip Flop/Hip Hop threw SATANS wrench in all the worksings, and sincere musicians and creators of real sound--- not (electrical)-- were diabolically removed.------- This is the result of men profiting in the world only to lose his soul".
@evidenceunseen1 You're an idiot. True Hip hop music was and still is a champion of soul and funk music. The use of samples from this era is a sign of respect for killer tracks and introduces these sounds to a generation who might not ever hear them. I only got in to soul music because I was hearing so many samples in the hiphop I was listening to so I decided to track down the orginal songs. There are millions more like me. You have no understanding of what hip hop really is.
I keeps this kind of music around me at all times. This way, I won't get poisoned by some of this so called music of today. Some of it is good and a lot of it is sad especially when the artist can't read music or play an insturment. Peace.
Man, this song is unbelievable....takes me back to my teen years back in the 70s when music like this was what you heard on the radio. These guys were Awesome...so damned smooth....
one of the best basslines ever to hit a stereo speaker!!!!! pure music with backbone and soul. damn shame kids now know all this great music from samples with crap laid over it and not how it was created. great song
