  • great grove - did not hear it until too short used it in "life is"

  • I still find it hard to believe that they were the ones singing and performing LOVE OF YOUR OWN - a beautiful R&B/Soul record!!!

  • Still find it hard to believe that they are all white! They actually performed and wrote "Pick up the Pieces"?!

  • imagine this if you will. i was a soph in an all black high school, Cleveland, OH. lunchtime. this would come on. everyone would stop talkin, laughing, eatin, standup and start dancin. everybody. the lunch ladies thought we were 1. crazy 2. programmed robots. 3. stupid jungle bunnies. they had no clue. this is how amazing schoolboy crush and AWB, was and is.

  • @gghelo That sounds cool as hell. I was the only Funk/Hip hop fan in my all-white school in Liverpool, England, back in the late '80s and '90s. Everyone else was into either Heavy Metal, House/Techno or Pop. Things are different these days, with most white kids in my area being into Hip hop. Unfortunately, the standard of the music has dropped dramatically since my childhood, so they're still missing out.

  • @gghelo Imagine this, I was a Senior at a all white highschool in NE Ohio in 1975 and the only white dude into AWB, got called all sort of names but didn't care!!! ha ha. Rember going home and cranking up "Work to do"

  • REMEMBER THEM DAYS...MY DEAR LUCILLE D.

  • yes this was the song ,,,,i was in the 8 grade,,,,ohweeee, lol

  • My FIRST Record...played the grooves off of the vinyl!...l STILL have it!

  • Who could dislike this? Peace 2 all!

  • as a young brotha' comin' up back in the day.....I wasn't prepared for this. Funk was a Black man's game I thought. Obviously funk crosses many boundries!! SCOTLAND?!?! Dayumm.....

  • You need to have a 70! Cabaret!! Must ware a costume!

  • this kind of music take me back to great times just skating and hanging out.

  • I just heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago. It's become my favorite. We listened to AWB as kids but I don't remember this one. It sounds sort of like a Prince song when he's hamming it up and being truly funky.

  • Gots to be the funkiest sh to come out of Europe.

  • I remember playing this to my very pretty 7th grade teacher and boy did she get a kick out of this! The next day she told me that she told her husband and he wasn't too happy!

  • This song is KRAZY awesome.

  • What a great record. Does wonders for a party. Some of the best blue eyed soul ever put to wax.

  • damm brings back memories of skating and dancing at the concrete jungle chicago and pulaski... ave or nothing!!!

  • Saw them I MArch @ Birchmere in VA met them afterwards took a pic with Alan and got a personal elbow bump from Robbie COOL guys!! Saw them in '76 as well..I missed Hamish, Molly and Roger. If they could unite for a tour I would go to as many dates as I could!!!

  • whoa! ...skate song! I remember, this is one of the best songs ever to skate on... wow!

  • Father MC sampled the song "School Boy Crush" on his song "One Night Stand"

  • Peace!

  • Wow. Im blown away at how the mix is so different on vinyl. It sounds so much better than the CD!!

  • I'm a Microphone Fiend

  • AWB hit #33 in Billboard, 12-27-75. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Not Your AVERAGE WHITE BAND......

  • Thanks for posting this bad ass AWB tune.

  • Good fun in a great song. Remind me of my first boyfriend...

  • 2 Cool! Peace

  • This is the shit. The don't write like this anymore. The digital age has ruined great recordings

  • @JPHansen59 I was just thinking about that today! it's like how much clearer and cleaner can music get!~what's left after perfection, more perfection? it's not possible, music today It has no depth or body! basically it has become computer TRASH!~ just think about it!~they have took a awesome art form and ran it into a brick wall!~and we can thank Ganster Rap for killing the greatest form of music ever!~ R&B!~

  • @Wc3FanBoy about to cause mass hysteria!

  • I must have seen every show these guys did in the NYC area in the 70's! Just about the best R&B dance band of the day...someone's got to bring back Funk and R&B, it's too great to let die!

  • rakim knew where the good stuff was :3

  • Heeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

  • You know you've got that mad fat fluid when you rhyme, it's halftime!!

  • This is the jam ! ! BLUE-EYED SOUL, LOVE IT.....

  • I agree with waveslider11 and gittafiend.

  • Big Al Carson and the Bluesmasters regularly perform this at the Funky Pirate in New Orleans as well as other classic funk and blues. I work there.

  • @hankaaron1961 I take it you're not a hip hop fan, and that's ok. I agree, nobody cares that some no talented rapper sampled anything (and plenty have), but my comment specifically mentions two of the best lyrical storytellers ever.

  • I can't believe white people mad this song

  • @tom42121 haha

    damn straight!

skin colour dont matter when you can put it down like this.

  • WOW!!!!!!! I NEVER knew where they got "Microphone Fiend" from....damn this is hot to death!!!!

  • @7thJewelProductions also used by double xx posse for "school of hard knocks".

  • to all that want to know the reason for the non-existance of RnB BANDS TODAY IS THE CLUB MANAGERS DON'T NO ANYTHING ABOUT THE OLD SKOOL 70'S MOST OF THEM TODAY ARE YOUNG AND WERE NOT AROUND DURING THIS ERA OF MUSIC WHEN YOU ACTUALLY HAD TO PLAY YOUR INSTRUMENT WITH NO SEQUENCING MOST OF THESE MANAGERS ARE AFRAID OF OLD SKOOL FUNK IT'S REALLY SAD THAT THIS MUSIC IS NOT BEING PLAYED LIVE IN THE CLUBS THEY PREFER LIVE BANDS IN THEIR ESTABLISHMENT PLAYING LADY GA GA BRING BACK THE OLD SKOOL

  • I MELTED MICROPHONES INSTEAD OF CONES ICE CREAM

  • Hip Hop acts such as Too Short and Eric B & Rakim, and Reggae stars like Ini Kamoze sampled this song, not to exploit it, but to show respect and admiration for AWB's work. "School Boy Crush" was released before I was even born, and I wouldn't even know to recognize the track was sampled if not for "Life Is" by Too Short. Stop knocking Hip Hop, because it shares elements with Blues, Funk, Country, Soul, and Rock music.

  • @MrDCDantzler Who cares that some no talented rapper sampled someone else's work of art. I swear, some times people seem to think it' s some sort of amazing ability to know how to press "record".

  • Some songs just got the groove...like this!!

  • was für geile zeiten....AWB war die beste whitesoulband ever!!!!!

  • was a fiend before I became a teen,

I melt the microphone instead of cones of ice cream...- Rakim .

  • omg, when this came out, I was 12yrs. old and try to suicide ( took to many pill's) !

And now I am so thankful 4 giving me such of GREAT MUSIC !!!

  • I remember this song so well from 1975! AWB had two huge hits earlier that year with: Pick Up the Pieces and Cut the Cake. Later that year they had If I Ever Lose This Heaven and this song: School Boy Crush. These last two hits hovered toward the bottom of the Top 40 and I never understood why!? Both School Boy Crush and Heaven should have been much bigger hits!

  • This song is from "Everybody Hates Chris" "Everybody Hates Christmas Episode"

  • I'll tell you what happen' to all the real soul bands and muscians--------

"MONEY AND GREED THROUGH ELECTRONIC EXPLOTATION" replaced the true musician. The powers that be and their producers of so-called--- R A P (Repulsive And Pathetic) and Flip Flop/Hip Hop threw SATANS wrench in all the worksings, and sincere musicians and creators of real sound--- not (electrical)-- were diabolically removed.------- This is the result of men profiting in the world only to lose his soul".

  • @evidenceunseen1 You're an idiot. True Hip hop music was and still is a champion of soul and funk music. The use of samples from this era is a sign of respect for killer tracks and introduces these sounds to a generation who might not ever hear them. I only got in to soul music because I was hearing so many samples in the hiphop I was listening to so I decided to track down the orginal songs. There are millions more like me. You have no understanding of what hip hop really is.

  • Comment removed

  • @tumsabai1 :)

  • @evidenceunseen1 too short and other rappers were simply adding to this music. Infact the band acknowledged the fact and let them do it.

  • @Ssaps Too Short sampled this? On what track?

  • FUNKY!!!

  • now i hear where MJ got the christmas bells for ''JAM''..this TRACK IS ON POINT

  • Ahhh yeah. Not bad for white boys from Scotland. Don't make 'em like this anymore. That's alright, that's what recordings are for!!!
