@SycamoreHill14 not a joke. this is legitimately what trumpets used to be. valves were only invented about 200 years ago. All trumpets were then were metal tubes. You control the pitch with air speed and embouchure (lips movement/position)

Not to mention that you can see him struggling with the partials in the first part, right after he's placed the mouthpiece in the tubing. The AMOUNT of tubing is what determines what harmonics the air coming out of it will resonate at and therefore the sound that can be produced. I'm impressed by this demonstration, but as a brass player, I'm not surprised by it.

Actually what you have is "Natural" or "Baroque" trumpet. You have play the instrument in the high range so that the notes come closer together. If not you get the Fundamental,Octave, 5th, Root, 3rd, 5th, then the flat 7th. Then beyond that you can hit any note limited to how good your chops are. I can see the man has a D Trumpet @ the beginning. I can do that with a garden hose.

@bsanj1025 That called a "condensation key". The tubing acts like a still and distills the water vapor from your lung when you exhale. It the same thing whales do when they exhale. You get mainly water vapor with some saliva & mucus.
