  • this happens every year. not a big deal.

  • This was the year that the wind was very high and they couldnt proporly water the hill. this last one fireworks shot into the crowd.

  • Oh the great dewey hill fire...

  • they are more carful about spraying down the hill before hand... to bad that was the best year.

  • happens every year

  • I was there :)

  • Grand and Lafayette with my sisters when this happened.

  • Haha, I was sitting on the corner of

  • i remember that it was the year i can back from texas

  • oh man i remember this, we went boating the next day and there was still fires

  • I rebember seeing spring lakes fire dep. Grand Haven TownShip dep. and Robinson Town Ship dep. there and I can remember for days after when the fire was finally put out that it was smokeing for a long time, I mean I was born and raised ing Grand Haven, but I have never seen the hill get that bad, it was nuts!!!

  • Great job guys you busted your butts on this on and got it wrapped quickly. Could have been much worse than it was. By the way that was some good footage of the trees crowning and gotta like the 4 fingers working there way down the hill.

    Stay Safe!!!

  • I prefer Grand Haven in the off season. I don't go near town during CGF, too crowded. :(

  • I live within the first block on Washington Ave. How do you think I feel? :) I have carnival rides less than 10 feet from my balcony.

  • That would be weird. I guess with some well-chilled Oberon and a couple of good friends it could be fun to watch....until you wanted to go to sleep.

  • I work at Mr. Kozak's. the summer time is crazy. and coast guard fest is just insane...it make a guy really love the snow.

  • i remember this i was at my house i live like 5 minutes from there and i heard it on the radio i was like WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!

  • that was so crazy the whole hill was burnt down and nobody was even watching the fireworks after that

  • they were still fighting that fire the next day. i had my boat at the marina. our boat got hit by pieces of the firework that started the fire.

  • HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

  • ya why they banded fireworks in parts of Michigan. way to go

  • Banded?

  • @cathole612 They were banned years before this. It's mainly because of idiots hurting themselves.

  • i remember that.

  • LOL I was watching that from the boardwalk!

  • Yeah, for all of you who say this happens every year, it does, just not that big. Most of them are put out before you notice them. I know this because I was up there that night fighting that fire. And it doesn't end that way every year

  • Omg,that happens like every year. I never go anymore, cuz it always ends like that. lol.

  • My earliest memory was sitting in a stroller, and being completely freaked out by the fireworks back in the 70's, I was at this one, and yes it was awesome.

This was the result of "Friggin' Tree-huggers" Complaining that the precautionary "wetting down" of the hill by the fire dept. was causing erosion of Dewey Hill. So they didn't wet it down that year, and it was indeed a dry summer (I belive it was about 85-95F all that day. WTG Hippies! All that grass and shrubbery was keeping erosion down!

  • ok for anyone who lives in or near G.H. knows that almost every year there is fireworks on that hill there is always some style of fire. I have seen one every year for the last 25yrs. on that hill.

  • Exactly right. I grew up in G.H. and all through the 70's and 80's we had fires on the hill and people injured from the fireworks. It's a tradition.

  • aw man.

now i'm jonesin' for summer already.

although, with the weather the way it is in GH, we've barely even had winter!

  • i was there when it happened. in fact, i live in GH!

  • thanks, my wife and i were gone on our honeymoon and we missed it.

  • Ahaha..my friends and I were wathcing all this from the top of the Feris Wheel

  • This was the best fireworks display ever.

  • i remember this, the guy next to me was saying burn baby burn! HA, oh i hear me in the background...jk

  • Talking Heads!!

  • i remember that on the news.the fire stared because we didn't get rain for a really long time, and the grass stared on fire because the grass was really dry.i only went to the coast guard festival in 2006.

  • i was there it was awesome!!!!

  • that was my favorite coast guard EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, I remember that. The fire was better than the fireworks!

  • I love the "fire" works in Grand Haven.
