Spectacular footage. It's especially nice that nobody died, and I therefore don't have to feel guilty for enjoying it.
I commented on the normal-speed video about the immense scale of those exploding tanks, and it's even more obvious when you look at the staircase/ladder/walkways. These things are gargantuan, and it boggles the mind just to contemplate the level of explosive force it must have taken to send one of them flying into the air and tear the other one apart!
I think when one first watches the normal-length video, the sight of the second tank's roof coming off and rolling towards the viewer can almost be deceptive, because it looks like something we could imagine happening to a manhole cover or a car's hubcap. A manhole cover dislodged by an explosion would be plenty dangerous in its own right. When you look closer and really get appreciation for the size of that roof, it becomes clear that the thing is Death itself, rolling across the landscape!
Yeah the top of that tank was steel and about 25 foot in diameter. Weighs many hundred pounds I would guess. Some daylights shots of it on the ground in the aftermath video I posted.
If you look at the aftermath video I posted from a couple of days later in the daylight, you can get an even bigger sense of the size of the facility, or what's left of it anyway. Some up close shots of the tank that went flying too.
Skip to the explosion 0:40 :D

This slow motion shot is cool, but you can't beat the other video with sound.
musiman28 2 years ago
I agree, the sound is incredible. I have 5.1 surround with base speakers on my computer and when I crank it up it's like being there all over again.

This was one hell of a bleve! Great shot, and good to hear you are ok that was a hell of a close call.
TheTornadoChaser 2 years ago
Sorry that your chase van didn't make it, but at least it was the only casualty.
musiman28 2 years ago
Yeah I'll miss it, but it's expendable. Those firefighters were not and thankfully they made it!

That is intense footage, hope no one got hurt.
