  • May I ask why he just using the analogs? I saw other vids of pandora with quake 3 and using the analogs,

  • so where would i be able to get one of these and for how much? it seems like a quality product. would it be worth getting though?

  • Can you make a video with a game running multiplayer on Pandora?

  • I know this was already asked, but can you use the analog knob to play this, or is it just for certain games?

  • Damn your mac is dirty :P

  • i wonder why O.O

  • awesome, btw is there going to be a xpadder-like program running on pandor? pls reply

  • idk what for, the Pandora games and emulators will all pull their inputs from the gaming controls, you shouldn't need a separate program to adapt that to the keyboard... What are you getting at?

  • Someone NEGged me for asking when it will be released. :-S

    Oh brother...

  • Well here it is four months later and still no release. I hope no one is holding their breath for the Pandora.

  • When is the planned release date? It seems like it keeps getting delay after delay... :-(

  • It will be released when it's ready. The boards are being prepared for mass production, and the molds are being made for mass production of the cases. Everything else is done, the first 4000 should go out in early 2010.

  • omg what is it? is a mini tiny laptop :o me want now! oh shit isit only for playing games :( disappointed*

  • ha, if it was only for playing games I wouldn't buy it...

It's like a tiny laptop, but Windows won't run on it. You can use stuff like Firefox to browse the Internet, listen to music, watch ripped DVDs...

It's a UMPC, but without Windows.

  • That's why it's better than a UMPC ;)

  • Not only for games!

  • no its not. Its works just like a laptop.

  • hey waht is that?

  • Did you not see the dual analog nubs for full control of the character, both moving and looking around at the same time? It's about as close as you can get to a proper mouse setup (which is the best unless you are not at a desk) and it beats the crap out of trying to play with a dpad only.

  • I did...I'm just suggesting that, there are better ways to show off the hardware than with a game that's meant to be controlled by a mouse... on a desk..., someone mentioned MAME, that'd be great, or you know the stuff I already mentioned.

  • why wasn't he playing with the analog nubs? playing FPS with a D-pad sucks.... he wasn't even strafing

  • Quake is fantastic to play on the ds!

  • mouse.. that is not the best way. I am unbeatable with my trackball. And if you can handle the timing a mouse is not better than a keyboard..

  • I am seriously lolling aloud at this. Sorry if it offends you, but this is too funny to not laugh at.

  • What are the specs on Pandora? Can it run MAME NBA SHowtime, or Killer Instinct 2 at full speed?

  • Comment removed

  • Dunno what those are, you can ask someone once it's released.

  • thanks for the laugh

  • Ports need source code!

  • Why do people ask stupid questions like this? They're not even funny.

  • I'll second most everyone else and say that I didn't notice any lag, but even if there is some, the specs are available and should already give you some idea what the system is and isn't capable of.

And at least for a linux-based, portable console, what it should be capable of is pretty awesome. If you don't like it, lug around a laptop instead.

  • 15-hr audio listening life, dual sdhc slots, 800x480 screen, ubuntu?

WANT. not as a gamer. i'm not a kid. it'd make a hell of a UMPC.

  • actually its designed for being an UMPC as well as a gaming handheld.

If you have no interest in gaming, then you'd be probably be better off with some eee pc or something like that (at least prize wise)

  • I don't care much for gaming, but I'm excited to finally have a pocket-sized device that isn't locked down pathetically.

I have a Creative Zen media player and a Palm Z22, and I'm looking forward to having one high-powered, unlocked device totally obsolete both of them.

  • Yeah... I'll be able to do Linux things without dragging my huge laptop everywhere.

  • Could be MUCH more than 15hours. Closing the Lid saves Battery life. Craig said, it could last 100h if the decoder uses the dsp. If that is not right: Even 30h is more than enough.

  • That was extrapolated, but I think a decent DSP codec could play music for 30 hours or so, with only the CPU, DSP, and audio out running.

  • I noticed it too, but if you watch the rest of the video(His hands and whatnot) you'll see that it's YouTube and not the Pandora.

  • Nice video!

    Requests for next video:

D-Pad in more detailed action (w/ fighting game?)

    Analog nubs in action

    More keypad typing

    DOSBOX

    SNES

    PSX

    :D

  • full of win.

also, i didnt see any lag.

  • I cant see any lag, boy.

The player moves immediately when craig presses the buttons.

  • I wonder if there is any screen tearing noticeable? Thats imho one of the biggest downsides of the PSP. So, could anyone confirm?

  • Wahhh...

    It lags :(

Quake 3 will be optimized right?

    BTW: Do some DOSbox! :D

  • It looks fine to me, in fact you can see the fps in the top right corner of the screen, and it looks to be staying over 25 at least.

  • My faith is renewed, though it didn't need it

  • Yeah at one point I thought it wasn't going to happen.

  • I doubt it, as the final one will be a matte black.

  • this excites me in a variety of ways

  • Been a while since I've checked in on this project and I'm blown away. I'll definitely be throwing some cash at you guys when this is out!

  • Effin' sweet! Seriously awesome stuff! Why no nubs though? Those analogs looked very lonely.

  • NOTE: Also, what does the battery life look like now? Anything over 5 hours is impressive to me (whilst running quake 3).

  • It's still around 10hours.

  • Someone will surely do that when distribution of the console gets started. Right now very few people have the hardware and can work on software. Shouldn't be that difficult to do anyway.

  • Glad to hear it should be DaveC approved! Looking awesome

  • Please next video, show some typing

  • You cant say that now, becourse the mass production Case isnt ready jet, but i dont think that it will be like NDSl

  • sweet.

  • :) <3

  • awesome!

  • Looking Sweet. Hopefully you keep making Pandas right after the first batch is made. Can't wait to get one.

  • Thanks :)

    Great Video!

  • Nice!

Why don't you use the analog knob to look around?

  • Can't wait! An emulator video would be fantastic. Megadrive and Super Nintendo. Thanks Craig!

  • awesome! is there any way of mapping the analog nubs to the q3 control config yet? it'd be great to see that AND to receive some feedback about if the thumbs have no problem with it (longer distance to nubs) over longer playing time - cause thats one of things that concern me

heres hoping for even more videos soon :)

  • Man dis good
