I think he sounds a lot better in spanish however, he had a lot of audible gasps while he was singing the song. It was somewhat distracting. Other then that I enjoyed it.
David has a paralyzed vocal chord which is why sometimes you can hear his breathing, not gasping. For me that breathing is part of his magic, sings better than anyone around with one vocal chord. A true gift.
I love this video Monica, I love how you can see Mr. Quintanilla stand up at the end for a standing O. David did such a wonderful job. I am a fan for life.

No offense to the D.A. fans but i've heard people at a karoake bar sing this song with more feeling, emotion, and true dedication to the words coming out of his mouth. He sings very well, but heard better. This song is so heart felt and when david sang it, he sang it well technically but there is no heart there. He was either thinking about the words too much or not feeling the song the way he was supposed to.

No offense to the D.A. fans but i've heard people at a karoake bar sing this song with more feeling, emotion, and true dedication to the words coming out of his mouth. He sings very well, but heard better. This song is so heart felt and when david sang it, he sang it well technically but there is no heart there. He was either thinking about the words too much or not feeling the song the way he was supposed to.

the delivery of each song like Michael Buble. He sings with such freedom and shows his audience he has
fun in doing so. Maybe Archuleta needs to duet with Michael tBuble to generate that edge and learn to have
fun while he's singing.

@jptmba1512 I would like to propose something to you. I will say at the time David sang this song he was nineteen. Yes, David will probably have some romantic heartache in the future. But I don't believe that the awesome tribute to Selena of No Me Queda Mas and the duet with Pete Astudillo of Como La Flor are any less spectacular because he has not experienced that romantic heartache.

I honestly don't know why the Hispanic community has this on-going facade about them being the most passionate people on the planet when it comes down to emotion and expressing themselves in song. As a Hispanic, I find that our audience loves melodramatic singers who push messages, not deliver them to the audience. I find it thoroughly ridiculous how anyone can say that David has no heart singing this; he DOES, but shows it in his own way.

@jptmba1512 Yes, music is an art form and a form of expression, but there is a difference between pouring your heart and soul into a song and just modulating your voice into what sounds like a "poor, unfortunate soul" to deceive your audience of what your emotional state is. David sang this from his own perspective, as Selena did her own. In a world of self-expression and emotions, there is no such thing as a better interpretation, only the one that touches you the most.

No two people go through the same things the same way, just like there aren't two people who are going to have the same exact opinion about the same exact thing. If music is a form of expression, then I'm allowed to sing lyrics and melodies however I want to, not the certain way it was written. As a musician, that'd be my choice of expression. And there's nothing you can do to say I'm wrong.

And you should never have to create a fake persona to sing a song; it comes across as fake. If you can't find any way to relate to a song through your own emotions, then that song isn't for you, sorry. The audience isn't stupid; just like we can spot fake people, we can easily spot fake emotions.

Whether you feel he sang it with the passion he was "supposed to" is left for the listeners to decide. I find that a lot of people interpret artist's interpretations of songs differently. I was moved by Lennon's, "Imagine," whereas my friends and family were indifferent, so what you feel is subjective.
