It would be even more unsafe to get the motorist to then cross to the right shoulder with traffic moving so fast. Always remember, if you are being stopped by a cop, move to the right, unless there is a wide left shoulder, and there are not many of those on our interstates. They will recognize you are obviously going for the safest part of the road.

How can stopping on the interstate be safe EVER? Most are not driving they are aiming their vehicles down the road at 65 plus MPH. You can notice this in sound distortion: the siren doesn't distort when it's edited in (which they usually do because it's a lot of noise for a microphone to pick up.)
Unless it's dubbed the proper way most people will not notice.

Normally I would ask myself, is it really that hard to stay in your lane?? Is the person blind? Who drives full speed into a stopped police car with flashing lights?? But in this case if you look close, you can see two cars crashing, and one of them hits the police car. So who knows what caused them to crash. Cops cars and helicopters do not have microphones. Even bystander camcorders will have the sound removed because cheap consumer mics have terrible wind noise. 100% of all sound you hear in a "wildest police chases!" montage on any tv show is going to be stock sound effects.

Cars and cops should pull to the right, and far to the right... although, some cops prefer the left because when they are on the right, they are standing on the road side, whereas when they are on the left, they are away from the road side. But still, this doesn't justify that preference being so close to the road completely.

@chase2187 Its probably because the highways are way to big many places in america... its because of the big amount of cars, and big highways means you cant park at the side of the road if you are in the mid-lane. So people driving too fast, are drunk, or using a cell phone will not manage to stop if a car is placed like that...

The post production sound effects are more subtle than the sound of a real accident. This is one of the reasons why when you get pulled over you should pull to the right side of the freeway. Roadside collisions are the number one killer of cops. Many are struck by cars while not in their vehicles which is why most now go to the right side of the car when on the interstate or highway.

that happend in Linndale, OH. on I-71 N towards Cleveland. The reason patrol car w/ the bird's view was siitng there is their jurisdiction on that stretch is 1000 feet. NOT SHITTING YOU!!!!! The whole village is only .1 square mile w/a pop. of maybe 60 folks.

I agree. Cars and cops should pull to the right, and far to the right... although, some cops prefer the left because when they are on the right, they are standing on the road side, whereas when they are on the left, they are away from the road side. But still, this doesn't justify that preference being so close to the road completely.

Not just that if they had tried o move to the right lanes some other idiot might have hit them for not paying attention. Do you know a lot of people don't pay attention while driving in the freeway ! It's because they assume nothing will happen as it keeps going and going. If it were to be the city they would be more cautious because of red lights and walking pedestrians.

Answer to that is that the cop didn't. The law in the US is that you pull to the right for emergency vehicles.. even the ones pulling you over. I call this "driving as a second language". What happens often times is that recent immigrants from countries where oxcarts outnumber cars get their DL handed to them without understanding this. They don't speak English so when the cop says.. "move the fuck over" they get out of their car. I've even seen them stop ON the highway.
