Right on--this should be a day of mourning for all those Natives who lost their lives to settlers. Good to hear these young native people's view points.
@ralvarez15 I looked at your YT post & you are 1 very arrogant SOB---poo poo ing others very valid comments about the negativity of colonization against natives. U don't know any Indian people, so u can continue to make your oracle comments "Get over it" etc etc. Dude, u don't no squat, u don't know that wrongs done in the past still effect people to this very day...u are an enabler, the blind American who refuses to see history & is bound 2 repeat it through ignorance. That's it.
@windstorm1000 LOL!! You don't know the meaning of the word arrogant. First of all stop being an idiot and complaining over the past. Nobody who I have talk to has barely ANY valid comments. What looks like to me is that people like you do not want to accept what happened in the past. You feel angry. Well, too bad. Thats history. And I've learned U.S. history which comes to show how you lack good judge of character. All I have to say is that people like you are ignorant and won't let go. :/
@ralvarez15 I looked up 'arrogant' in the dictionary--your picture was in the definition. No--I'm not ignorant--YOU are--I pride myself on understanding issues that go beyond headlines. I accept history--until ugly issues from 2-300 years keep popping up--then like any intelligent person I inform others about them. All the idiot white Western and Eastern, Jew etc. comments on here!!!!! The true first peoples of this gorgeous, being-raped continent posted this and video and are FAR more attractive and 'sweet' than we are. Hugs and tears for all the TRUE north americans, from Victoria Canada

This feast day (THANKS GIVEN) Never took place by our fore-fathers, This was and still is a wicked invention by The So-Cal WHITE MAN to keep our peolple in ignorance not knowing the Truth. The Truth is, the White Man R the children of Satan, they R the Wicked. The color of Satan is Red, so is the SO-Cal White Man. Read Gen. 25:25. We indigenous R diferent shades of BROWN COLOR NOT RED!! Another LIE!! You want Prove?Contact me. Shalam
@Tazaraw Logically, you can't slam the white man and then use their own religion to try and prove a point. Their religion is full of destruction, death, and bias, just like that which they brought to the Americas. If we're going to combat this destruction, or even speak out about it, we need to reject their ways, Christianity included!
@xrugratfulx The Bible is not a book of religion N Never has been, but the so-cal white man the Devil N Wicked who is ruling the earth, Job 9:24, Read it. This Beast has Never taught any Truth out of the bible. Since he came into power in the time of the renaissance (Rebirth) in the year 1400, all that he has taught has been LIES, Read Psalm 58:3 N 50:16-17. Before the white man came, all the Indigenous people new about the Old Testament N not the New, WHY because we came 722 years before
@xrugratfulx before Christ came in the so-cal New Testament. After the Assyrian Captivity the multitude of Ten Tribes (SO-CAL INDEGENOUS) never returned back to their Land the Northern Kingdom of Israel (Samaria) instead were did they go? To the Americas, How? In ships, yes we had knowledge of circum navigating the earth. ALL these is written in the BIBLE, does these sound like Religion to you? The Bible is a book of LAWS Not Religion or Christianity, Joshua 1:8 Read It!!
@xrugratfulx The Bible was only given to us HEBREW ISRAELITES (SO-CAL INDEGENOUS N SO-CAL NEGROES) N no other nation!! Read Psalm 147:19-20, 105:9-10, Amos 3:1-2, Math.15:24, 1:21, Acts.5:29-31. And yes the Lord hates the white race(Red N Hairy) Romans 9:24, Preset that with Gen.25:25 to find out Who Esau IS! Have you heard any religion yet? What you have to do is come back to your constitution, the Bible and leave all that Crap,N Lies that we've learned in america. Rev.18:4-5 Shalam
These are kids. They made a beautiful film. And they deserve respect, and encouragement.
If you aren't walking the red road yourself, then you're part of the problem.
What happened three hundred years ago, these kids will learn, it's certainly not as important to them as what's happening in their homes.
If you don't like Christian missionaries preying on your kids, then ask yourself what exactly are you doing to give them a positive example, hope for the future, something to believe in?
You are correct! They deserve respect & encouragement but you left out something that they also deserve - EMPOWERMENT - which can be accomplished through education. If you don't think that our past has a connection to our present which guides us towards our future, then you are misguided & not connected to the red road yourself. I empower my children through education & awareness which does include our native traditions. I also strive to walk in the beauty way as an example for them to follow.
Goody for you. Have a nice life, and quit putting down others for living THEIR OWN LIFE. You have your ways, We have ours. Oh well, grow up. and get over yourself. You have only shown only hatred. That is sad for you.
I'm all for EMPOWERMENT. Anyone who isn't walking the red road, but sitting at a computer criticizing kids for what they don't know, is not empowering them, is simply hoisting pixels and shooting down whoever wanders into their virtual sights.
These kids are real, and Native Lens is doing an incredible job to mentor them, give them tools, to give them hope.
If you are all about empowerment, are you doing that?
I understand that what's done is done and hate gets us nowhere but it is the people who think the way you do that irritates us the most. Those who perceive the native genocide as a lesson in ancient history. The Jewish holocaust killed approx 11 million people. The Native American holocaust killed AT LEAST 100 million people. Don't dismiss our feelings. I think a simple acknowledgment of that fact would be something I would be very thankful for today.
You are confused., I am not saying that this should be forgotten, or dismissed. Quite the contrary, I am saying that the hatred I am seeing here because a child enjoys thanksgiving is purely misguided. You must adapt if you are to survive. Not adapting to this world is a sure way to death. those who resist change end up bitter and dissapointed. that is all I am saying. Learn to incorporate both worlds and keep your own path clear and strong. Do not condemn those that dont believe as you.
I think you are the one that is confused. It is not hate, it is sadness. When you love and are connected to something so deeply it hurts to think what may come in the generations ahead as our native children become more disconnected from our traditional culture. This video is a compelling example of this.
Many tribes still in existence today will be 'extinct' in the far near future. A result of your beloved 'adaptation'. A point that on your part was irrelevant I might add as adaptation was/is inevitable. At this point, ACKNOWLEDGMENT would be enough I think. While European-Americans acknowledge the wrong in enslaving African-Americans, the Native American genocide has never been widely accepted and acknowledged as such.
@jimkdaadtman lets all adapt jim and have big 9-11 parties with hummus and babaganoush... its the same thing.. actually its not.. the first thanksgiving was a genocide party..this will nto must not be celebrated.. you dismiss natives traditions and their honor out of hand by saying grow up and adapt to our traditions.. thi is the same thing whites have said since they came here and raped the land and our women.. noone hates these kids.. they shed tears for them because they do not the origin
This is not ancient history my friend. My grandmother NEVER learned to speak english. She spoke Navajo until the day she died. My grandfather was removed by force and sent to government boarding schools were he was abused and his name was changed. The IHS had a policy of forced sterlization of native women up until the 1970's. This STILL touches our lives today and is NOT ANCIENT so please don't forget that!
You prefer to follow the Navajo beliefs? Are you Dine'? Just curious as I am and find your comments appalling. I suppose we had to ADAPT to the genocide and destruction of our culture and identity. We were FORCED to ADAPT and yay for that! 100 million native people down to less than 1% of the population of the US today! (1 million) OUR OWN COUNTRY AND WE MAKE UP LESS THAN ONE PERCENT!
I would like to say that you all have this so wrong at this point. Yes, it's a holiday started by the pilgrims, BUT, you also have to realize that this is a new time, and it is fine for all people to give thanks for the blessings that they have beeen given NOW. Not to be punished for the sins of the fathers. But to rejoice in the life and health of the family you have now. Too many people allow hatred to overshadow their life, and live sad and meaningless lives.
ahh, but who is to say what is THEIR tradition? If their families have been celebrating it, then guess what?? It IS their tradition.... You see, One of the greatest abilities us humans have, is the ability to ADAPT. Adapting has led to survival... this much is true, the ancient ways are slipping into extinction, but the infuence of them on the present is astouding. Todays ways are no less important than the ancient ways.

"I'm happy the Native Americans were part of it". Wow. It's great to see beautiful Native kids appreciating their families, but so sad that they don't realize the truth of this day. No offense.
I just want to add that I am also Native, and that this is something I have heard from kids on our own rez. We have to, as communities, redefine "Indian" for the sake of the younger generations. Again, I don't mean to offend. These are great kids.
Of course, but the thing is humans have a way of making lemonade outta lemons so to speak. and in a way native american children are basically mentally forced to accept it as a "holiday" because the onslaught of media coverage sayin its a time of peace ugh
Who cares if she has cross earrings, I was raised Roman Catholic, but am not a roman catholiv today. I prefer to follow the Navajo beliefs. Not the Roman Catholics. Amazing how quick everyone is to jump in to decide for Native what they "should" know.
She's right, it's a Pilgrim holiday.
Whatever it's origins. It's not their tradition.
These kids are from tribes 3000 miles away on the other side of the continent.
You look at them and see Indians, but they are Swinomish, Lummi and Muckleshoot, and also just Americans.
