In May 1992, the Democratic Left T.D. Proinsias De Rossa subverted the Anti-abortion ban by reading the telephone numbers of abortion clincs into the Dáil record, using his absolute privilege as a member of the Oireachtas to avoid two lawsuits: one for the ban, and one for public indecency.
The second was plausible, since it is impossible for any pair of pants to adequatley cover a set of testicles that large.
@VaaniSevika Not sure what you mean when you say "It is sad to see so few people in Ireland understand democracy". Ireland probably has one of the most sophisticated electorates in the world. For parliamentary elections, the Irish people use tactical voting to ensure the proportional representation of their respective choices.
I suppose VaaniSevika, when we voted 'No', you believed that we had a great understanding of democracy.
When the citizens voted No they gave the government a clear answer. For the government to insist that the citizens vote again because they didn't give the 'right' result the first time shows a disregard for the citizens and democracy. L2 was identical to L1 and please don't waste your time and energy in an attempt to convince me otherwise. If you believe governments are running countries, then you've bought the fantasy.
@VaaniSevika They were not identical. And the Lisbon guarantees will be incorporated as protocols to the Croatia Accession Treaty. The guarantees on retaining an Irish Commissioner were not on offer in the lead up to the first vote. They were in place for the second referendum.
If you still believe that L1 and L2 are identical, then that's your prerogative. But protocols have legal value and they will be incorporated into the Treaty with Croatia.
Ganley is a twister who sides with neo cons and ukippers, & jean marie le pen.We thought we had seen the last of him in June, and he told us as much. Let him go a second time
Interesting that the only politicians urging a no vote are Sinn Fein (terrorists - have said no to every treaty with the same spiel), Coir (ultra catholic nutcases) and Declan Ganley (shady character with his own interests). Quite a crew.......
Good on ya Declan Ganley! I'm so proud of someone who goes against the tide for truth, as truth is not as popular as lies, but.... we will see tomorrow what prevails....
*YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, IDA, ISME, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Small Firms Association, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
Ganley has his own agendas, this is the man who is applauded by Neo-Cons in the US.Ganley fears Europe as it will put in doubt his and friends interests.
Ireland needs Europe, Europe is good for Ireland.Vote Yes to Our Future and That of a Strong EU, Vote YES to Lisbon
NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.
YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
Time to throw this rotten Treaty in the bin. The French and the Dutch already rejected these proposals, now they have been denied the right to vote again. The lights of democracy are going out all over Europe. Vote NO!! The voters of Europe will thank us!
Well Spain and Luxembourg voted Yes, I would be interested in where you have decided that Europe will thnak us?In fact all pro lisbon leaders have been elected or re-elected dispite the fact that they promised to ratify the treaty!!This can only point out that your wrong in your assumptions..Europe wants Lisbon ratified. VOTE YES
Typical Eurocrat arrogance. Even in Spain, the turnout at 43% was the lowest on record. Hardly a ringing endorsement. It is not good enough to assume the intent of the electorate when they are preoccupied with choosing a national government. You know full well this is a sham. The fact is the EUSSR is afraid of the electorate, and with good cause. Those who love freedom and justice will vote NO and put these arrogant politicians in their place.
The European unions political leaders want the Lisbon treaty, its citizens do not.
Referenda results clearly indicate this.
Ireland is not alone, the peoples of the European union are rooting for a second no vote as many of them have been denied their chance to express their opinion.

When listening to the yes no debates its interesting how no people will show disadvantage with facts from the treaty's contents while the yes show advantages from past dealings with the EU, most yes people tend to steer clear of actually treaty contents when they are given the chance.
I've found out enough information for my self aside from both yes and no campaigners views.

Listening to Ms Coleman on the run up to LT2 it was clear that she is a Yes woman, not impartial as is her professional responsibility.
It is sad to see so few people in Ireland understand democracy. We fought hard to become a free state.
