I hate the needle. I feel a small pinch for 2-5 seconds and then pressure. It's a discomfort, but not painful (except that 2-5 seconds). After novocaine, I just take a nap during the procedure i.e. fillings, root canal. lol

The only way a dental visit will hurt is if you have a bad dentist .. If you feel ANYTHING, its your own fault by not telling him to give you more. Even so , if you have a good dentist , he will always ask you if you feel what hes doing. Ive had fillings, cleanings, and a root canal, and never felt anything during them.

wana know what i do? close my eyes, then i take the deepest breath when the needle goes in. no pain. NO PAIN. trust me. i did it when i was getting 4 vaccines. no PAIN! (they were at the same time)

my dentist gave me a numbing cream on my gums [thankfully my two cavities were right next to each other] and i could not feel the needle one bit! i didn't feel anything and it was like nothing happened. the only sucky part was later that day when the numbness wore off and my cheek was sore.

it sucked for me cuz i had a filling today and for me it took longer for the numbing to set it so they poked my tooth to see if it was numb and it was so they started drilling then i felt a sharp pain i screamed and i had to get another injection and wair a few more minutes it sucked -.-

@taye25014 No, but if one cavity is on one side of the jaw, and the other cavity is on the other side of the jaw, an injection on each side of the jaw will be necessary. Also, most dentists use 2 vials per area being numbed, which means the syringe needs to loaded twice, which means 2 injections per side. Although you usually won't feel the second injection (or the first one if topical anesthesia is used).

hoooly crap..i just got 2 fillings today and its no fun at all...the needle is ok for like 2 seconds but wen they keep it there for anything longer i freak out and it hurts like a panda punching me in the face....*sigh*

i got a root canal and the shots hurt man, i dont know whats wrong with that kid i think they already put shots in him and this is his second time so he doesnt feel anything man im scared for life because of that root canal

The only thing that sorta sucks is the needle. Depending on the dentist, you will feel the needle or not. I got 2 fillings today and the needle hurt a bit. I could also feel the novacaine flowing into my nerve bloodstream :(

I had one today. Dw its ok. The only thing that hurts is the needle. But it only last about 3-5 seconds. Just pinch your arm for about 3 seconds...it wont even hurt that much. However some people say that it doesnt hurt at all. Hopefully you'll be one of them. You'll be numb for a while after, but it goes soon. Just remember that having a filling is better than having a tooth removed. Why do you need one anyway? I had to have one because i couldnt clean my teeth properly because of my brace.

I got one today, and it only hurts a wee bit. They numbed me with a jelly like substance. They didn't stab me with a needle. The jelly thing numbed with since 4:00. And it still is numb at 7:38.

It's not as bad as it sounds/looks, the needle doesn't hurt and the drill doesn't hurt either, unless the cavity is too close to the nerve, if it is, then your dentist will know [that's what the x-rays are for too]. Don't worry you're always in good hands.
