34 years it's been since I saw them do this live on Long Island. Been missing them that long. Mike Causey, I dreamed about jamming with you one day back then. How about a mission from God ?
I saw Stillwater live twice in the seventies at Old Man Rivers in New Orleans and partied with with them in the dressing room till about 5:00am in the morning. I've seen a lot of bands in my days but nobody could JAM better than these guys LIVE. I will forever remember these guys, wish they would get back together and tour
I have been looking for the full version for years too. I had it on cassette, can get first half on cd but not this end half./ Anyone know where I can get full version????
There is an archive clip somewhere in the bowels of the BBC in London from Bob Harris' 'Old Grey Whistle Test' - a special edition from Georgia called 'Macon Whoppee' which showed the whole of this clip live with Bob in the audience totally mesmerised - he called it some of the best guitar playing he had ever heard - no argument from me there !!
me and my sister have been lookin for this for years!! we had on cassette , that we taped on an old tape recorder sitting on the table ,pause at the ready!!! GOD BLESS YOUTUBE!!!!
Nice seeing those players having fun. Just posted a couple of songs from some of pre-Stillwater members I think three original members. Coldwater Army out of the Warner Robins, Ga area. I think Bob Garrett did most of the vocals on that album and was not a member of Stillwater at anytime?
Friday Dec. 26th Whiskey River in Macon, GA 8:00.... for those of you who don't know, this the only time each year that the entire band plays together, including Dave the drummer who now lives in Colorado.
Actually, Cameron Crowe was at a Capricorn Records picnic back in the day and saw the actual Stillwater band perform. That's the way I understand it. I believe he actually got the name from the real Stillwater band. However, the movie itself is not a biography. I heard it was based more on The Allman Brothers and Led Zeppelin more than anything else.
I saw Stillwater play on the very best of the old grey whistle test about 1976. I bought the LP then and have been looking to see them play again. Thanks for your contribution and could you repost it with the whole song and the solos at the end. Magic. If not possible does anyone else have a video?
In England BBC-2, the thoughtful, documentative sister channel to BBC-1: think PBS, did a special on drugs going down at concerts. They showed footage of this open air festival and played about 15 minutes of Stillwater's Sam's Jam and I was hooked! (not on the drugs). They also showed Sea Level. Somewhere in the 77-79 range. I also had it played on british National Radio on a rock show! Great stuff. Johnny
Bobby Golden and Alison Scarborough were teachers at my school in 1982-1983. Northside Junior High School in Warner Robins Ga. They both had short hair. I saw Stillwater perform last night (Saturday, May 17, 2008) at the perry airport in a hanger.
They can still rock. Bobby was not there last night. But Alison was up on stage singing and playing bass. His hair is now totally grey and in a long ponytail down his back. He is just a wee bit pudgy now, but I recognized him immediately.
Where's the rest?!!! The BEST Guitar sonologue since FREEBIRD!!! Whoooooo!

what do you mean by this post?
johnnythelowery 2 years ago
so the movie "almost famous" was based on these guys?
Sadyrak 3 years ago
No, the name of the band was just taken and used for the movie. The band in Almost Famous has nothing to do with the real Stillwater.

Kidkongdw: You need to re-post this with it playing to the end. They're just getting going and it gets cut off. What happened to the rest of it?
