Oy. That dance spin was just...awful. I don't know, I just don't understand the appeal of this team. They have obvious mistakes, the routine wasn't that coherent and they only get outscored in the original dance by one point? Doesn't make sense to me.

The announcer was right. They made at least 4 mistakes and the style - what was is, jazz or waltz? It was all over the place. Evidently the judges have their favourites. Usually I like this team, but not today!
What really like about it- while Zoueva teams use lots of waltz killian holds, these two are in a class of their own using different variety of holds transitioning..and look their line, oh my they are excellent dance models.
That is a very good point that some D/W and V/M fans usually forget. This team is so proficient in terms of edging and difficulty of holds that necessarily has to sacrifice some speed but as ice dancers I think they´re the last couple that shows the classical moves and clean lines the Russian school is famous for. I´m gonna miss them so much when they retire. Best of luck for them and all the teams in Vancouver ; )

I agree with you in that V/M have the best skating skills nowadays but in this particular dance Dom/Shab were stronger even with the mistake on the spin. Russians´midline steps were much deeper and manteined the leg extension. Their tweezles were also better and more difficult without changing the foot. Not to talk about interpretation wich is more subjective but this was the dance that reached me the most.
I have already recognized they had some mistakes but Virtue and Moir weren´t perfect either so having to decide between them I preferred the Russians´dance.
And please do not say I don´t understand about this sport because the judges thought the same as me. And I´m a neutral spectator, I don´t have any special interest in any couple, not like you who are defending the couple from your country, which is not my case.
Reviewed Virtue and Moir OD at Worlds'09. I think you should do the same. They were not so accurate (twizzles, spin, footwork) as you want them would be. You don't give intellectual detachment.

Why didn't they get penalized for non respect of the OD theme? I know it was composed by chostakovitch in the 20's oe 30's... but I don't see any 30's or 40's spirit.. I mean they did some major faults too... but non respect of the theme is like non respect to the skating organisation no? I might be very hard on that but eh...

I thought that the N.American commentators were the worst, but I was wrong! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really miss Dick Button! And although they had a point (OK, it wasn't the best OD we've seen, we get it! You don't need to go on for 5 minutes!), they did everything they could to rip it off! Is that what commentary is all about? Isn't it supposed to communicate enthusiasm and beauty rather than merely pointing out mistakes? Just wondering...
I really hope that you're right. But don't forget that this is in Los Angeles and if America wants to put Belbin and Agosto higher, they certainly can. The difference is already tiny.
Great programme! I loved it even better when it was skated in Cup of China! Her costume was more beautiful then! However, this is one of the most beautiful waltz compositions! Go Oksana and Maxim!

God that was awful... Not really in terms of the choreography itself, but technically, and especially the choice of the music and the theme is completely inappropriate, it is absolutely not what was required or else I don't get it...
They have made tremendous improvement this season even with the injury-lack-of-training-time factor. This program really grew on me. I like it a lot more than when it first came into the scene. She, especially was the one who made a step up both in skating and in presentation. I hope them skate well in the free. Also I hope him find enough time to fix his knee before the Olympic season start!

Despite my love for V/M both teams had mistakes. Its a toss-up. Of the medal winners, I think B/A had the best OD, and D/S were marked too high.

There´s no way to say that these two have poor technique. It doesn't need to be lindy hop. It has to be from the early 1900's. And this music is and it's really beautiful.
