Actually the term "Democratic Republic" tends to be used by countries with a particular desire to label themselves a democracy for the purposes of propaganda -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (N. Korea) for example. Anyway a Democratic Republic is not a democracy either, so it would seem you are attempting to split hairs with semantics. The point is in the US we the people do not vote on legislation. We elect representatives who in turn make the decisions.

We agree for the most part, but sterilization would be a legal nightmare to the point that I don't think that it is realistic and to see the monetary benefit would take probably 20+ years. Surprise drug/alcohol testing could possibly cut the welfare bleeding in half within 6 months. This is a money crisis and I really don't care what they do, just as long as it is not on my tab.

we do have a dependent society and it will stay that way. people do need to get off their lazy asses and do something to make their lives better, but we as whole can also do something to help out each other. this country would be better if people stop point the damn finger and talking smack. this is our country,we are all connected whether we like it or not, so why would we want our own people to fail?

Really? Prove it please. I'd like you to go into Highland Park and survey each of these families to see IF they are working, where they are working and why they need government subsistence. You ask why? I can't imagine why they'd be living like that. After all, Lord Barack Obama has been in office for 10 months now. I would think all the misery would have been magically wiped away by now! :-)~

Perhaps you would like a recent blog entry I wrote about this very subject. It's called "Halloween: A democRAT party holiday".
My thesis is this: Halloween is about people asking for handouts from strangers and this is exactly the kind of society the democRATs have stood for since FDR's New Deal. LBJ only made it worse in 1965 w/ the Great Society and Medicare. Check it out pls.
