  • Love to see this when channel surfing. "Fuck, it's Mr Bean! And it's only starting!"

  • Ahhh nostalgia just hit me like a bus.

  • Danger Mouse!! This melody is deeply nostalgic....

  • The State re-uses this logo at the beginning of some of their shows.

  • Reminds me of the start of The Benny Hill Show.....everytime.

  • Omg gosh! i love this when i was a kid!!!

  • @daminmancejin

    I looooved it too :))

  • @habbocarl

    MyNameIsChriddof

  • i saw this logo when i saw Mr. Bean on TV.

  • FUCK YOU THAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think the Benny Hill show had a version of this at one stage that had someone playing a glockenspiel tacked on the end.

  • 1968 thames tv

  • ΘΥΑΜΙΣ

  • Totally agree with bluesbrother 37. I'd be more than happy to stump up to watch this sort of TV, especially as i'm stuck out in the far east against my will, which has absolutely nothing that i like and everything i hate.

  • BUMARSE

  • From Danger Mouse (1981 - 2011)

  • Crap. I can still hear the 'Help' theme start up in my head after hearing this!

  • I saw that before Danger Mouse.

  • I'm an American, and although I know this is a British television ID, a couple American networks (Nickelodeon, for one) imported some Thames programmes back in my childhood days, so this logo is not unfamiliar to me, either. I remember seeing this logo before shows such as Count Duckula and Bananaman came on. So nice to see it again!

  • i remember they would always show this right before the benny hill show .

  • Brings back awesome childhood memories....notable, "The Benny Hill Show"!! Thanx for posting this cool vid.

  • you miss me thames tv

  • I saw this Thames Logo before an episode of Button Moon on YouTube and I recognised the music from BBC Radio 1. It is heard before a Jaguar Skills mix is played on the station.

  • Correction DarthKopi: Does it remind you, not do you remind it.

  • i dont think they even had tellys back then

  • one of the few British tv station i.d.s that made it across the Atlantic, to here in the US...Benny Hill, Monty Python, Duckula, Mr. Bean...

  • 'effin Benny Hill.

  • MONTY PYTHON!!

  • I'm still waiting for Benny Hill Show :)

  • Mmmmm... fams.

  • I remember this from the PBS channel here in the US when i was a kid. It used to freak me out for some reason. LOL

  • Danger Mouse! :D

  • Benny Hill. The Tomorrow People, Danger Mouse and Count Duckula!!!!

  • Do you remember it? Benny Hill, Mr Bean...

  • An oldie but a goodie.

  • Count ****ING DUCKULA! DA DA DA DA! BOOM!

  • Heh, when I saw this, I knew Benny Hill was on. XD

  • This is tele-art.

  • Helvetica FTW

  • In the words of the 11th Doctor -blimey!

  • Yup. Benny Hill...

    ...and DangerMouse

  • whAT YEAR WAS THIS IDENT MADE IN?

  • @Mum2Boys 1969 to be exact.

(Although i am not from london i am from Australia and we get ITV programs on ABC 1 which is based on BBC).

  • Danger Mouse also.

  • 00:02 looks like windows95:D I love this intro:)

  • @yokichi40 I loved watching this intro as a kid preceeding "The Benny Hill Show"....it also reminded me of The Beatles somehow too. In '86 I finally got to visit London, a town I knew I would love. This logo helped inspire me to realize my dream.

  • Wind in the Willows

  • yes...it's the benny hill show!!

  • I remember this in Count Duckula:)

  • i remember this for "tomorrow people".In this days this theme gave me the creeps....

  • Brilliant. Thanks for posting such a quality version.

  • I remember it without the DIVX watermark, that's for sure!

  • When THAMES lost its franchise, that was the start of the decline in ITV. Today the top shows on ITV are made by THAMES and not ITV.

  • Cue the "Good Life" theme!

This was before all the shows my mom taped off of PBS.

  • The Good Life was made by the BBC, not Thames.

  • I guess she taped Thames and BBC programs onto the same tape and I got confused.

  • Whenever I hear this I always think of The Kenny Everett Video Show and The Tomorrow People.

  • I think Duckula and Benny Hill

  • ...and Danger Mouse. (= ^ ^)

  • This reminds me of Minder, Morecome & Wise oh and The World at War

  • Prelude of good humor!!!

    Támesis, in Spanish

  • danger mouse!

  • agreed, DM on Nick in the mid 80s - sigh, that takes me back.

  • aye!

  • The image and music scarred me as a kid and still do.

  • Brilliant, know where yer coming from!

  • same here, why do they do that with every ident i remember??

  • :p i remember this when i was small, same as the old channel 4 ident. i watched alot of tv as a kid lol

  • When i was a tiny kid in the 70's, i remember when all the educational programs finished, this came up. But I also seem to remember they would play some stirring music for a few minutes with that picture in the background. Then Peter Marshal or David Hamilton would introduce pipkins or rainbow.

  • Yep. Just type in "Thames start-up" and you should find it.

  • Note thgat it's the second clip down, NOT the one with the testcard picture. that one is a fake.

  • It's so good that the The Simpsons used the Thames logo on one episode once!

  • Since when did this logo appear on a simpsons episode?!

  • It was a brief appearence but it was on the episode where Homer and Bart were watching a British comedy show, based on football hooligans, on PBS. The Thames logo, cartoon style, was on before the British sitcom started. I think it was a mark of respect from the writers for Thames. How cool is that!

  • yes great stuff saw the episode again this evening,i live in essex and thames was itv to me in the 70s and 80s now itv is rubbish

  • Those were the hay days!

  • soothing sounds from thames tv. makes me feel like a glass of port and a nice sigh.

  • hey wheres benny hill, he supposed to come on after i hear this melody

  • Thames stuck with this ident for twenty years, it must have been a shock to many viewers when they eventually updated it!

  • Most didn't see the update - as pre-programme idents were scrapped by ITV on 1st January 1988.

  • Indeed! It was used from 1969 to 1989 and is the longest continuously-used ident on British television (possibly even in the whole world, but I'm not sure about that - does anyone know?). There were some very minor tweaks over the years (e.g. a 'ripple' effect was present in the water until the mid-70s and the last few notes of the music changed subtly around 1972), but never enough for most viewers to notice. I think the reason it lasted so long was that it was bloody good!!!

  • It is still seen here in the United States quite often.

  • I beg to differ, but Anglia had their knight on a horse and the tune that was going for almost 30 years

  • I used to see this at the beginning of Thames programs on the ABC in Australia in the 70s and 80s (Minder, The Bill etc). I was a bit disappointed to finally get to London and find those landmarks - St. Paul's, Parliament, Tower Bridge - actually aren't that close together!

  • "Tun - Tun - Tina. Tarrrrr rata torrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" - This is Thames Television.

  • this theme give me the creeps in my childhood days cause after this "tomorrow people" began. This tv program scared me totally...still,i want to see it again.

  • I remember this from when I was a little girl.

  • The Bill!

  • yeah it's cool that on all the bill dvd's I have they still have the ident on it

  • A TV classic. The logo and the programmes. I even rember a French exchange student knew it when he came over to England.

  • We need a Thames Gold tv station, complete with classic logos and continuity announcers!! The petition starts here!!!!

  • If you like I can send you the video.

  • Videos and pictures

  • I'm with you there. You can count me in!

  • This ident is shown on Nick Jr before Rainbow and before some episodes of Button Moon.

  • Yes everytime I hear this it reminds me of watching Rainbow as a kid in the early 80's

  • Completely. :) When I discovered Nick Jr was showing repeats of early 80s Rainbow, me and the wife sat there enthralled - it was like being five again! Seeing the Thames ident on a proper telly again after all those years was magic.

  • Great ident, Brings back memories!

  • Damn - I thought The Sweeney was about to start!!

  • Yes... it's true but Nevertheless it was well made. But he can't be diffused on internet because the images were filmed in a sort of secondary school and it is forbidden to put on-line this kind of video... not envy to be sent dismissed ! lol

(montage effectué mais non mis en ligne pour ne pas être viré du CFA (pour vous les français lol))

  • cleanest version of the Thames ident I can find. well done!

  • Cool ! je le recherchais pour un montage video ! Merci

Cool! I searched this video for a video editing! Thank you
