wow, loved this moment.... i was 11 when she won... colombia was great too. ... recent years' MU pageant has lost that charm + the brains of contestants dont matter to the MU organization anymore ...we shud thank mr trump for the deteriorating condition of thts prestigeous pageant.
withouth doubts, one of the most spectacular and special editions of MU. The quality of the contestants is amazing and the final 3 are simply gorgeous! ít gives me chills to see them all so friendly and united and still competing against each other! WOW! My final results: India as second runner-up; Venezuela as first runner-up and Colombia as MU94.
they answered very well all of them... truly all 3 of them deserve the crown if only they have competed in 3 different time.. for me i think colombia should've won this year... i commend these 3 ladies.... miss universe in recent years cannot match the beauty and brains of these QUEENS!
They all deserved the crown because in the whole MU history, they were the most inteligent and beautiful young women. They make me proud to be a woman because of what they stand for.

India no tenia nada que hacer al lado de Venezuela y Colombia quienes eran a leguas mas bellas que ella. Recuerdo que incluso me extraño que India entrara al top 3. Esa corona era de Colombia o de Venezuela ambas mujeres bellísimas.

but when the most important part of the pageant came (question and answer, well we all know what is beauty if the brain is empty) Miss India pulled it through like a tidal wave. after answering the question even though Miss Columbia hasn't answered the question yet.. we knew who will win the crown.. and definitely it wouldn't be Miss Venezuela nor Miss Columbia. up to this date the question "what is the essence of being a woman" and Sushimita's answer are still famous lines. bravo!
when the candidates of this pageant came here in the Philippines, Miss Venezuela had been one of the favorites, as days had gone by, the bet that she'll win the crown goes up.. Miss India had never been a fave, but she made it thru for the top10, from then scores went go back to zero. and she made it again for the top 3.joining the top three the bet was still on Miss Venezuela and 1st runner up will be Miss Columbia.....
sushmita sen was just 18 years old when she won the Miss Universe title. What is more amazing is the fact that she started learning English only at the age of 16...just 2 years before the contest! She is special...love her!

I think Miss Colombia answered best.. Although it was a tight final 3, they all gave similar answers. I think the pagent being held in Asia, really helped India. I saw Miss India recently and I think she looks better now, than she did in the pagent.

Venezuela was classy and Colombia had spunk and both were more sophisticated than India, I thought. But a year after, lo and behold.... Miss India looked like a goddess when she crowned the next MU!

I think Sushmita gave the best answer in the entire history of the pageant not Lara Dutta. Lara's answer is pageantry and a little robotic. Sushmita's is full of warmth and the way she wove man's role in women's existence is brilliant. And she threw in God and motherhood into the mix, making it an altogether satisfying answer. Judging by her expressions, you could tell she really thought hard about the question and it came out organic, spontaneous and full of meaning.

You said that Sushmita refers to gender, God and motherhood...that is the perfect mix for a "pageantry" interview.
Sushmita was well-rounded but Colombia deserved the title. She was more spontaneous and radiated more warmth, confidence and personality.
I will say this much, Sushmita was a great MU (If Colombia lost, at least she lost to a good candidate) and she looks fabulous now (better than she did in 1994).
@karengurl101 sorry but i disagree, lara absolutely held the crowd in her gaze.. she represented a new woman in the 21st century, a leader that is more than just being a mother but a rolemodel, an independent being unwilling to back down. lara continues to be that example, so no it was not pageantry at all.. she was real.
@karengurl101 yes, sushmita's answer was very sincere and philosophical. but lara dutta's answer was no less impressive than sushmita's. it all depended on their personalities as individuals. sushmita was sensitive, motherly and a woman full of wisdom. lara was logical, tough and intelligent. she was not exactly robotic. i think it was more decisive and strategic.

Evidently, India, despite her stammering, gave a spontaneous and witty answer. Venezuela's organized and intelligent reply was thus eclipsed at that point. Finally, Colombia's strong performance during the entire pageant was shattered when she gave that safe but lackluster response. Like the previous year, both Latinas had to finish as runners-up.
miss india was the most elegant, beautiful, intelligent, well-spoken, with the best body (not chubby) and therefore deserves the title. miss colombia was as beautiful, but couldn't beat miss india in the other depts.

en una revista colombiana cuando regreso carolina gomez del miss universo,la entrevisto y ella dijo q venezuela habia sido su mejor compañera del concurso y compañera de cuarto en el hotel ,hablaban mucho y se habian propuesto luchar ambas para llegar a ser top 3,y lo lograron ambas ,por eso carolina le dice a minorka cuando la elijen ,pudimos ,pudimos,y cuando se va a la hurna de cristal le desea suerte a minorka,q corazon tan grande el de esta chica.CORONA ROBADA PARA ESTA MUJER.

I think Sushmita gave the best answer in the entire history of the pageant not Lara Dutta. Lara's answer is pageantry and a little robotic. Sushmita's is full of warmth and the way she wove man's role in women's existence is brilliant. And she threw in God and motherhood into the mix, making it an altogether satisfying answer. Judging by her expressions, you could tell she really thought hard about the question and it came out organic, spontaneous and full of meaning.

No. Lara is more articulate, confident and coherent.
You said that Sushmita refers to gender, God and motherhood...that is the perfect mix for a "pageantry" interview.
Sushmita was well-rounded but Colombia deserved the title. She was more spontaneous and radiated more warmth, confidence and personality.
I will say this much, Sushmita was a great MU (If Colombia lost, at least she lost to a good candidate) and she looks fabulous now (better than she did in 1994).

@karengurl101 sorry but i disagree, lara absolutely held the crowd in her gaze.. she represented a new woman in the 21st century, a leader that is more than just being a mother but a rolemodel, an independent being unwilling to back down. lara continues to be that example, so no it was not pageantry at all.. she was real.

@karengurl101 yes, sushmita's answer was very sincere and philosophical. but lara dutta's answer was no less impressive than sushmita's. it all depended on their personalities as individuals. sushmita was sensitive, motherly and a woman full of wisdom. lara was logical, tough and intelligent. she was not exactly robotic. i think it was more decisive and strategic.

It was obvious that the final vote of the judges heavily leaned on their impression of the candidate when she answered this Final Question. Evidently, India, despite her stammering, gave a spontaneous and witty answer. Venezuela's organized and intelligent reply was thus eclipsed at that point. Finally, Colombia's strong performance during the entire pageant was shattered when she gave that safe but lackluster response. Like the previous year, both Latinas had to finish as runners-up.
