This is why Agallochs EPs NEED to be released on cd/itunes. it mades me cry, reflect, and even puts me in this mood of total beauty. In fact it's songs like this that are so beautiful that it makes you kill yourself bcause there is so much emotion that you don't know what to do. Every time i hear this, i want to cry, scream, and put my hand through a wall; but at the same time, meditade, ponder, and close my eyes and think. Thank god(s) that Agalloch isn't famous
Wtf, seriously, a comment about wanting to kill yourself and all this other emo crap getting to the top of the comments list? Agalloch is beautiful, sublimely atmospheric music, but please, there are better ways to expess your emotions.
@FuckYouHonestly all i said is that the emotion is so powerful, it's overwelming. I don't intend to EVER acually kill myself, just used the text to express the degree of which i was talking about.
@darklord2626 i get you, i know how hard it can be to express via words, text even more so. that person just missed completely what you were working towards. its ok though, this will happen. there are obviously those you sync with what you were saying though, obviously via the "thumbs up" have to not attach to those you get lost in translation. they'll come around eventually. :)
Couldn't it be "Watching the thunder roar" and "Show us the silence in their eyes"? That's what I hear, anyway... I know there are no official lyrics to be found.
@JohnnyMytton I'd say humanity is a potential part of nature, yet we morosely choose to separate ourselves from it and continue our ugly, tedious, overcomplicated lifestyle and shallowness of thought. Those who do not do so can be considered a part of nature.
I don't see how anyone could dislike this song. To me, it's one of the most peaceful, relaxing intrumentals I've ever heard. There's just so much emotion. This is one of my favorite bands of all time.
like your videos so much, man, i've found a lot of amazing post rock bands from your channel.. i found your channel when I was searching some Agalloch videos.. thanks for all of your uploads, respect
@kissofdeathisraja, there is a fabulous new British atmospheric prog rock band called Enochian Theory which you might like, You Tube has several tracks from their last album called - Evolution: Creatio Ex Nihilio.
@KLillz Got it from a Google image search. Can't seem to locate specifically where it came from on the web since it's been so long since I used this photo. Though I have a copy on my comp, like I do with all photos I've used.
i wander the guy at the end his voice so firm as the one that played the psychological doctor on shutter island.. btw love the music bring more words to write poems then my mind can even carry..thank you for uploading these..

@MrJehosefat Are you one of those people who worship a being apparently so omnipotent and omniscient and perfect that he feels we should just believe in him without questioning? And yes, I am pro-choice and I do give a shit about the environment.
@cardboarddalek Are you one of those people that circumvent simple moral questions? To your question: No. But who would say yes to that? and what does that have to do with what I asked? I don't understand the "pro-choice" label, the baby doesn't have a choice, so why call it that? pro-death would be more accurate. And I repeat: As your comment indicates, you think "nature" is more important than "humanity" So would you save a tree or a human life?
@MrJehosefat Sorry, I thought you were some Christian, love all people type fucker... and, being a human and therefore naturally selfish and biased I'd probably have to save the human life if they were someone important to me, I hate myself for that... however I'd rather an abortion occured instead of deforestation. To be honest I don't mind the "pro-death" label; if the poor kid is gonna have a shitty upbringing anyway then it's just another pointless, painful life... we are the wounds right?
@cardboarddalek I understand the perspective, but don't you think that's a pretty heavy decision? I think humans are too short-sighted to know what kind of experience the child will have. Also, what is a bad upbringing? that is subjective, and a bad upbringing doesn't necessarily lead to a pointless painful life. Lots of people had it rough early on, but became notable poets, actors, writers, philosophers, etc (or serial killers or Hitler) so I think it is shaky ground to try to work with
But also, I think we are asking the wrong questions in this situation, the whole abortion thing shouldn't even be in question, 50 years ago it was not even on peoples radar that a woman would have a child outside of marriage, now it's almost the norm. I think we're not looking deep enough here, if you don't understand the root, (peoples worldview) which, if you trace it back far enough, comes down to either materialism (nothing exists outside the material world) or personal theism..
@MrJehosefat Of course it's subjective, and in some cases abortion is the best option, which is why we tend to use the term "pro-choice". The best solution would , obviously, be for the moron humans to stop mindlessly fucking and reproducing but, of course, discouraging conception is such a bete noire nowadays (fuck knows why) that it's only too PC to put up with the ridiculous rate of population growth :) and so we continue to grow, pollute and urbanize. That's the dominant species for you!
Indeed. Sometimes I think it would be better if humans never existed. It's not that I dislike them (us) but why do we have the capacity to think and to strive for something bigger while there is nothing? If something created it all, it must be laughing pretty hard actually...
@smaug88 There is something bigger... The universe. To me it is a miracle just be alive and be able to ask "who am I?" Now I know. I am the universe, divine and eternal. The fact that we are able to be the consciousness of the universe is really a blessing, imagine the odds... We might had never known... We're energy and matter of the universe, recicled over and over again, evolved to such a state that we can be aware of ourselves. No one created it all, we are living an eternal cicle.
@freeZesuxXs Take a walk through some of England's cities and try saying that again... your statement is only true for a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of humanity!
We had our chance. We are ugly and cruel and the good that we do does not counteract the harm that we do. Can you honestly say that planet earth would not be better off if we were to disappear from it?
@lumburgapalooza Of course it would be better without us, but obviously it's against "human rights" to suggest that we stop reproducing excessively, building more and more accommodation ever bigger families and ever younger single parents. I think we're superior to animals in intelligence alone.
We are superior to OTHER animals in our intelligence, yes, in the same way that cheetahs are superior to other animals in their speed. It is an evolutionary niche, nothing more... except that our niche has enabled us to unleash massive destruction upon the natural world.
I can't tell if the first part of your statement is sarcastic or not. It would only be immoral, in my opinion, to FORCE people to stop reproducing, etc.. To SUGGEST not to would simply be good policy.
@lumburgapalooza Well said. It would be immoral, yes, but what are we to do otherwise? The human population must be reduced soon or this amazing planet will fade completely
No, WE will fade completely. The planet will live on. We need to make the decisions required in order to sustain ourselves on this planet or we WILL not survive the next century. Unless we crack this rock, life and the earth will continue without us well after we've killed each other off.
@lumburgapalooza What if we've already burnt, killed and exploited it by then? Deforestation, pollution and animal abuse are as rife as ever; if they're not stopped then surely it'll be the end of both us and nature?
Isn't it amazing that these three chords can spark a discussion like this!
There is life in this world that we could never touch. Microscopic organisms living on thermal vents at depths we can not reach, etc..
I'm not saying that we shouldn't stop harming nature... I'm saying that long after we're gone (assuming that we don't make it, which is likely) life on Earth will continue.
It ultimately comes down to whether or not you think that the good that humans are capable of accomplishing is worth trudging through the bad for. I don't think that anyone could say our potential justifies the past crimes of our species, though.
Anyway, I think these arguments ruin the music for others that simply want to listen, so let's all just enjoy. We share a common goal and I don't mean to cause a divide by my comment.
Lord Summerisle: "Now, those children out there, they're jumping through the flames in the hope that the god of the fire will make them fruitful. Really, you can't blame them. After all, what girl would not prefer the child of a god to that of some acne-scarred artisan?"
Lord Summerisle: "Actively! It's most important to teach new generation born of Summerisle be made aware that here the old gods aren't dead."
Sergeant Howie: "And what of the true God? To whose glory churches and monasteries have been built on these islands for generations past? Now shall what of Him?"
Lord Summerisle: "Oh, He's dead. He can't complain. He had his chance and in modern parlance. Blew it."
Sometimes bands hide their lyrics so you (the listener) can understand yourself a bit more. By not knowing the words, you can inevitably "write the lyrics" yourself based off of the melody. With such a melody as this, there is no denying the potential to be had. The atmosphere of this song is just perfect in every aspect. In essence, this song is the bands gift to it's listeners. It is a human to human interaction through music. Speak to yourself and to one another.
well they didn t want to tell me the words on email so I guess so :) anyway....in 2 months time they are coming in my country and guess who already has a ticket? :D
Agalloch is amazing never heard a band like dat i hav heard almost all genres but this is so exceptional and different amazing no words for these guys they are my inspiration now

Who sleep shall awake...
Greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleep shall awake...
Watching the thunder of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive
show us the silent in the rise
so that we may
someday understand

Thank you for the lyrics. Are these official? It sounds to me like hes saying "Watching through the window of our lives"
Sawyer5500 1 year ago 3
As far as I know there aren't any official lyrics laying around for the first part of the song, just personal interpretation.
arroiz's interpretation fits nicely with the vocals so those are the ones I'm using.

Lyrics till 5:00:
meu cu ta rompendo as bordas do elem.........
sinto sa magoas e os sinos de belem...
Helrunar666 2 years ago
Lyrics at the end (5:00):
(taken from the movie "wicker man")
Lord Summerisle: "Now, those children out there, they're jumping through the flames in the hope that the god of the fire will make them fruitful. Really, you can't blame them. After all, what girl would not prefer the child of a god to that of some acne-scarred artisan?"
Sergeant Howie: "And you encourage them in this?"
Helrunar666 2 years ago
Lord Summerisle: "Actively! It's most important to teach new generation born of Summerisle be made aware that here the old gods aren't dead."
Sergeant Howie: "And what of the true God? To whose glory churches and monasteries have been built on these islands for generations past? Now shall what of Him?"
Lord Summerisle: "Oh, He's dead. He can't complain. He had his chance and in modern parlance. Blew it."
Hope I could help,.. enjoy!

Mesmerizing melody....indistinguishable words
Too bad, bc the background is just exquisite.
Was it deliberate to fuzzy up the lyrics?
csereix 2 years ago

Watching the window of our lives.
Waiting for the moment to arise.
Show us the silence in the...
So that we may
Someday understand.
;( Those are really beautiful lyrics, I wish I could figure out all of them.

great job dude ! :) I think you are on to something here . Can I help with a word?:)
"Greeting the shadows from the..." (sun) - maybe? :D. like the real GOD and the most powerful force that can influence nature.
streisean 2 years ago
Yeah, it would obviously make the most sense haha.
But it sounds like he's whispering something like "siiiiiii...."
Not sure though. : /

In Oregon right now it is freezing and kind of foggy. Listening to this is amazing
islespatrick 2 years ago
Does anyone know what is whispered throughout the song? I can't find any lyrics that have that in them too, just the sample at the end.
