  • The greatest battle ever !! Pantani Eterno ! !

  • real men ride women not bikes

  • @taltyc2

real men ride men you pansy

  • Man my advice , get a bike , do what Lance does and then say something . With all respects . I think every profesional rider get's something

  • 2 legend

  • Pantani in the Tour was presented at '80% of the state of the form, in fact some days later in Courchevel has demonstrated that it was rising above all, he had the ability to keep shooting the same frequency as it resided on bicycles and this the worst thing you can do for those you in the behind the wheel. Pantani in recent decades has been the only one who knew how to win the Giro and Tour in the same year, was the strongest climber of all time.

  • @limattiforever Nowhere near the best climber of all time. This is one of the ONLY times he beat Lance in the 00-01 Tours. Usually he got smoked. Which is why after 2001, he never won another race, sunk in to depression, became a cocaine addict and overdosed. Lance was a better climber, Julich was a better climber, Indurain was a better climber, Merckx was a better climber........

  • @sandrodream1

For some reason, the only competition that is covered extensively in the USA has been the Tour de France....... Probably because of Greg Lemond winning it in the late '86, '89 and '90. It's a shame. We now get to see some of the Giro and Vuelta on tv, but it used to be, only Le Tour...... Maybe that is why Lance concentrated on it.

  • @aaron882007 Greg Lemond didn't even help. Lance won it in 99-00, THEN in 2001 they started showing it interest on tv in the US.

  • @drumgpearl Yeah, I watched Lemond in 1986 on Wide World of Sports and then saw every tour after that, although some were merely a Sunday recap of the week. and I live in Montana, for Pete's sake!

  • @sandrodream1 I wish Lance would have tried harder on others too..... not sure why he love the French race so much. Love the fact that Pantani won Giro and Tour same year, I watched him tear up the tour the year he won it, I cheered him on. Mario Chippolini is one of my favorites too. I believe all contenders were doping in late 90's and early 2000's. Some great riders (Mario, Laurent) are dead from heart failure afterall. So winning 7 tours is amazing and not something a "normal" rider can do

  • I miss Marco

  • @sandrodream1 A thousand times inferior? Really? Winning the tour de France 7 times in a row is 1000 times inferior? Even the GREAT EDDIE MERCKX was only able to win a Grand Tour a year for 7 years. 3 of those years he won 2 Grand Tours but 4 of those he only won 1. Hinault only had 6 straight years with a Grand Tour victory. I think 1000 times inferior is 1000 times an exagerated inaccuracy.

  • Marco Marco Marco... mi manchi.

I will always respect Lance for that gesture. You are a true man, you are a true cyclist.

  • Ok we all know epo is but it did make racing entertaining! Anyone who puts Armstrong ahead of merckx or hinault knows nothing and shouldnt be taken seriously

  • pantani the best

  • @sandrodream1 Grazzie amico. Americans don't know European sports either. That's why they think Armstrong, is the best cyclist ever. And the embarrasses me totally. Armstrong, belongs on a cereal box and not compared to the true greats of cycling.

    Bravo Pantani!

  • @MrEdlgar Not all Americans think Lance was the best. I put Merckx ahead of everyone. Hinault and Fignon were legends too. I admire Lance for winning 7 Tours in a row, but that is the only grand tour he's won.

  • @sandrodream1

I agree. I see Lance as an athlete who's achieved winning the Tour seven times also. He wasn't a true bicycle racer like most true legends of cycling were. He's passion falls short of a true legendary cyclist who achieve victory in Italy, Spain, Belgium, etc.

  • Respect!

  • I wonder how many calories they just burned??

  • One donkey and a racehorse, both on EPO !

  • Marco ride with heart. Lance with strategy.

Both were great cyclists. Lance was better, but Marco was a great rider for his conditions. Lance had money, motivation, suport and lucky. Lance had three things for win the Tour and Marco just one. Despite Marco drug problems, we must to appreciate the show that he gave to us. Other guys i remember now: José Maria jimenes and Frank VDB. They died from same reasons, but they gave to us great shows, like Jose Maria Jimenez and Frank VDB (without drugs?)

  • @fabisbarbosay:

    You forget another one point:

I live in the same homeland of Marco, the Romagna (20-30 cities in Italy): here Pantani was an hero, for everyone. And when you are a sort of hero, everytime you try to make the best for the ones that belive in you. Pantani rode with all of our hearts.

Ciao pirata, non ti dimenticheremo mai!

  • is 4 u stupid @turklye7 titles won sheeting with epo u stupidhe aint got no balls was operated bitch amstrong should b domestic 2 indurain or ulrish beloki the god pantani heras le mond i get 2 ride w lemond uphill oldschool bikes amstrong did it with epo and dream team idiot a and cash his burnil boyfriend gave the commiseries and judges pantani beat him in mont ventoux tonto

  • real legend is Armstrong, it takes balls to win 7 titles back to back bitches. Just because someone died you make him a legend, idiots.

  • @TurkiyeCumhurbaskani: cycling is an european sport, idiot ! just keep on playing your stupid baseball and shut the F... up !

  • @TheNonfas I am from Norway motherfucker

  • Pantani was an alleged doper because of inconsistent blood results during his career. Yet in the 90s, Lance could barely finish tough mountain stages. After cancer he comes back and makes Pantani look like a toddler, I don't get it. In cycling you are born with the gifts to be a great cyclist, you don't suck at the sport and then beat all the top contenders, it's not possible!! Those who defend Lance know NOTHING of the sport!!

  • @dachicagoan AGREE. Not buying for one second that Lance never doped.

  • EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • did armstrong let pantani win the stage?????

  • @assman12354 He say he did, his fans agrees, but common man, look at his face :P he didn't

  • Pantani the TRUE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN

  • Doped or not, whenever he decided to drop the hammer, every rider from 1999-2005 wasn't good enough to hold Lance's musette never mind hold his wheel.

Without a doubt the G.O.A.T to ride the TDF

  • Back in the day when the main official rode in an Alfa Romeo. Mow a days the referee is in a Skoda...

  • Armstrong the best climber of history

  • was he the best? tell me why i'd love to know i'm purely a huge fan but don't know the era mine was hainault and indurain...

  • @lleosupercluster It's totaly no sense to compare riders before 1998 and EPO and that recent period with riders injecting blood in their bus like US POSTAL !

1998 changed doping rules but Armstrong refused to be a leader of that fight and chose to be an heavily doper when other were much cleaner.

The 1999 retesting showed it : around half of EPO positive test belonged to Lance : so he was much more doped than all other riders.

To say that other did the same is big LIE !

  • @hghepo Its cool how you take rumors and gossip and parade them as facts. Mad about something bro?

  • @turfturbo Maybe you should read wada report about it before stating that is pure rumors. Did Lance sue L'Equipe and other newspaper? No, he could have earned a lot of money if it were not true. Probably he didn't need money but cancer fight need it.

  • @hghepo Media reports in France are not facts. Le Monde, the French national newpaper of record has been sued by Armstrong a number of times now and has, each time, been forced to print retractions as they and others just cant handle a American being the best rider to ever live. If he doped and it can be proven the UCI would have taken action. Beyond that it is just speculation as these news agencies have proven a willingness to run with unsubstantiated reporting at best.

  • @turfturbo You are taking your wishes for reality : never Lance sued any newspaper in France, nor L'Equipe, nor Le Monde. Lance gas just be able to avoid the publication of Walsh's book on Lance's doping in Great-Britain, elsewhere the book was available.

BTW FC Barcelone won a lawsuit and a huge amount of money against Le Monde about doping. Let me repeat my question : why did Lance not sue L'Equipe if there were no EPO in his samples?

  • @hghepo Because L'Equipe was just reporting on testing that somebody else did. They were not stating: these are the facts. They were stating: these are the things these guys told us were the facts. Vrigman, the UCI independant expert called in to examine the validity of the claims as reported in L'Equipe said that the analysis of the urine samples were conducted improperly and that they “did not satisfy any standard for doping control testing so the whole thing was invalid on every level.

  • @turfturbo hahaha the farcical Vrijman's report as called by WADA , that says a lot about his content!

Everyone know that testings were done according research protocols, so yes they were not conform to UCI protocols, is it wrong? BTW research protocols have higher standard than UCI so difficult to invalidate the findings in that condition. Did Vrijman adress those points in his report? No, he avoided it.

BTW, US justice has no problem with those testings that they will use soon!

  • @hghepo What grounds does the US justice department or any other US government body have to use those testing results for anything? Athletes having used banned substances in the past has never been prosecuted in the US. The grand jury inquiry into doping in Major League Baseball didnt even bring charges against those who lied about it to the court. They have no interest in bringing this into any US court room.

  • @turfturbo Just ask to Novitzky who has requested all old samples of US Postal team including those of Lance!

I do believe that he would use them to corroborate testimonies and to strengthen his case.

  • @hghepo The only charges Lance would face directly would be perjury and obstruction of justice IF he, under oath , denies doping. So itll be interesting to see what he says when directly asked in court. This is when and if hearings are held. So Landis has had his tour victory stripped away. Contador is facing having his victories stripped and possibly the winningest rider ever on the tour may have his wins stripped. Every winner from 1999 to 2010 except Sastra, Devastating to the tours image.

  • @turfturbo Lance has already denied doping under oath during SCA affair (2005) ! So he is facing a perjury charges and according US newspaper : drugs trafficking, tax defrauding, and others that I don't remember.

To lose TDF would be nothing for Lance if he can avoid jail !

  • @hghepo bah, Barry Bonds and the BALCO scandal, Marion Jones etc. showed that they were quite unwilling to charge for trafficking or give jail time to the athlete. Bonds was convicted of 4 counts of perjury and 1 count of obstruction. House arrest seems to be the standard deal. Being stuck in his huge mansion all alone. Its terrifying.

  • @turfturbo I doubt that Bond or Marion Jones encouraged their team-mate and set a doping program for them. They seems to have been only consumer, not dealer and organiser like it seems in Amrstrong's case.

Did they make "donation" to their federation like did Lance after a positive case cleared strangely and illegaly according UCI rules? I had forgotten that Lance is under investigation for corruption too.

Did one of them try to intimidate a witness of Grand Jury?

  • haha when helmets weren't obligatory.... i miss the 20th century.... :P

  • santiago botero was also there

  • But you all know they're both baked right?

  • Comment removed

  • @petebeech Has lance ever been proved? I mean i know marco really did.

  • @petebeech EVERYONE was baked back then, probably all tour winners post Lemond were baked. At least it was an even field.

  • Yeah but you gotta also show what happened the next day when Pantani burned Lance like bye bye! pantani was absolutely the best climber ever, Lance the best all around athlete.

  • Pantani was a monster in the mountains but yes, Armstrong sat up a gave this stage to Pantani as Pantani helped him put time on Ullrich. Pantani could hardly hold his wheel while Armstrong was waving him forward to take a turn at the front. Lance's power was unreal. He still had it in 09 when rode across the gap on the climb in stage 16. Lance outweighs these "true" climbers but 25 to 30 lbs! Stud!

  • @revis23 armstrong rated pantani as a serious threat to his chances of going back to back at the time, he wouldnt have gone after him otherwise, the past 2 tour de france winners going head to head, pantani was a beast in the mountains the only man capable of matching armstrongs power. To say he gifted the stage to pantani is discrediting pantani's efforts, he matched every single attack. Armstrong gave it up about a kilometre from the finish because he couldnt shake him.

  • Pantani will always be remebered as one of the ture greats in pro cycling. Sadly missed.

  • just imagine what the commentators were saying right now

  • Lance was a bastard and said he let Pantani have the stage win here

  • @farneyblakeley he problably did...pantani was a good cyclist, no doubt...but it seems to me like lance, although not without putting in a serious effort, could have beat marco on this particular climb.

  • @Riddickbowler hE WAS A GOOD cYCLIST? One of the strongest climber ever was "only" a good cyclist? c´mon man if u don´t understand of this sport let it be!!

  • Pantani a true legend!!!!

  • @THEROTHERHAMRABBIT

    a true junky!

  • Don't think that doping is relevant because they all used it.

I hated always Lance because he was too good. Ullrich, Pantani, Jalabert, Virenque...these are the guys I liked. So basically anyone who could challenge Lance. :D

  • @eoneoneon Which is why I hate Contador, and what the Schleck brothers or Cadel Evans to win! Lance is the reason I started watching cycling though.

  • That's respect!

  • Say what you will, but the Tour is not the same without Lance!

  • @bkedp

Well said. You are 100% right!

  • Epic Fight ...

  • the italian was so bad boy and he won...I love it!

  • Two sons of bitches full of drugs ! no respect for them ! They killed this sport.

  • pantani was the BEST!!!

  • what does doped mean? that kinda suks, i always thaught armstrong was just extremely fit.

  • @02norcottg he is extremely fit. no doubt.

  • Indescrivibili emozioni, grazie Marco

  • there is something weird in the way that armstrong won the tours, too easy for a simple man, i think he was stoned due to his cancer.

  • Comment removed

  • @timtak1 Corticosteroids would be detrimental to sports performance anyway as they are catabolic (ie eat muscle). Armstrong would have had to OK any HRT (hormone replacement therapy) with the UCI just as cold medications containing pseudoephedrine etc have to be checked with unions etc.

  • @Number69

The corticosteriods were to illustrate that Therapeutic Use Exception for restricted drugs exists.

There is a thread somewhere on the web were people folks conclude that a TUE would not have been issued. But I also read that TUE for hormone replacement has been issued to some American football players, and that the names of such players are secret. Bearing in mind the nature of the disease, it does not seem unreasonable that the initial application having been made in confidence.

  • Man..look at them go! ..these guys are so full of roids and dope, they make body builders look like choir boys. Even with all the training in the world, no human being can tackle mountains like these at this pace day after day without some sort of doping assistance.

  • They all doped. Who cares. I wanna see them ride until their hearts blow up and beyond.

  • Most Powerful Riders on the Last 20 Year's of Mountains are for me Pantani , Contador , Armstrong !!!!!

  • coppi armstrong pantani..

  • IL PIRATA. Marco Pantani the best.

  • The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember, everything What have I become My sweetest friend Everyone I know, goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
  • With two balls he would be man enough to tell the truth...

  • This great spectacle was sponsored by EPO™

    EPO. Connecting people

  • @asiergarr dont be jealous you son of a bitch just cuz you are nobody.ahahhahahahah.....

here I am ....MR . NOONE!

  • This great spectacle was sponsored by EPO™

    EPO. Connecting people

  • Il Pirata will live forever in the hearts of people who love cycling! An epic victory, worthy of one of the best - ever! RIP Marco Pantani, you will never be forgotten!

  • We could discuss forever about drugs doping etc and it would be a neverending discussion.

Doping or not (and to be honest there are huge shadows around his guilt) Marco Pantani was one of the best ever.

Look at his eyes, in Armstrong you will never find something similar. Even if they were both great champions.

  • lets be honest he didnt dope or he wud of been caught i think all u haters should take a look at what u done to pantani u drove the man to his death

if u dope u get caught simple as. lance has had more dope tests than any other rider and nothing has came up give the man credit he has the balls and determination us mere mortals could only dream off

  • A failed attack in a later race made Marco give up the tour. Does anyone know what his ranking was that tour at that moment, did he trown away a podiumplace with that action?

  • READ HIS BOOK!!!

  • This is not human ... very cool, probably the best drug advertisement video ever.

  • you jealous bastards, Lance is the greatest cyclist ever, 7 consecutive TDF speaks for itself, bitches

  • @TurkiyeCumhurbaskani Lance is a great champion but he is not the greatest cyclist ever. Ciclyng is not only Tour de France. For example (but is not only example), Eddy Merckx had won: 5 Tour de France, 5 Giri d'Italia, 1 Vuelta di Spagna, and then: 3 World Champions, 7 Milano-Sanremo, 2 Tour de Flandres, 3 Paris-Roubaix, 5 Liegi-Baston-Liegi, 2 Giri di Lombardia... End then there others great champions that had won great Tour and great classics aginst great champions.....

  • during an era when everyone doped in professional cycling Armstrong still found a way to win the most prestigious race 7 times.

  • all the dope in the world could not give all you candyasses one ounce the tenacity of these 2 athletes ,give it a rest ,Marco RIP...

  • similar to this youtube.com /watch?v=0XruiqCPXEE

  • Can you upload it in higher quality?

  • Pantani and Rasmussen are the 2 best climbers ever to have walked this earth...

  • PANTANI IL MIGIORE ALTRO CHE QUELLO CON 7 TOUR

  • Pantani is the best???? Seriously??? Don't kid yourself... You know who the best is...!! Austin, TX baby..!!

  • Pantani the best!!!

  • I posted a comment 7 months ago and people are still replying? Fucking trolls. Get a life. Spend less time on the computer and go ride your fucking bike or something.

  • @danishsatire

Indurain has never admitted he took doping.

  • Marco Pantani is the only pure climber in the history of the biker who has won Giro and Tour in the same year!

  • Best cycling clip on YT. Old vs New School. Back down the climb, Armstrong is on an open mic to Pantani's former trainer asking 'how long can he keep doing this?'. But for most of this clip Pantani is having one of those 'just keep that back wheel in sight' climbs. And he did - which is one of his greatest achievements. And then Armstrong, in a gauche act of apparent generosity, cocked the whole event up.

  • Due dopers duking it out. Amazing jets!

  • just let all these guys use all the dope and drugs that they want so that the tour's result will show who really trained harder physically. they'll go back to the basic of training if they're all doped! exciting race though doped or not doped.

  • at top of any profession or sport in this case cycling the more extraordinary you are the more you will be come the target. your mistakes, because you and everybody makes mistakes, you will be crucified, your friends will become your enemies, this allows all the rest us the ordinary ones some hope.

  • The crappy music is WAY more interesting than the commentary.

  • Pantani was a god. Yes he was a party animal, but when on the bike, a pure animal. This pace on the Ventoux is incredible to watch. Lance owned Pantani on this climb. The attack itself wasn't enough with the brigding, but then not only to bridge then attack Pantani and gap him out a little, wow! Lance's fitness was probably the fittest any human has ever acomplished and it was only accomplished through his incredible desire to win and show these Euro's what us Americans are about, lol.

  • Agreed, they all doped, so it was still impressive to beat his opposition.

E.g. Vinokourov was found guilty of blood doping and served a 2 year ban.

He then returned to the sport, achieving the exact same results, possibly a little better.

When you see low profile riders (Dario Frigo) in the tour getting caught for blood doping or EPO it becomes apparent that all the riders are doping...

If they were to ban every athlete who tested positive, and say the top 30 riders, where would the tour be?

  • Le cocktail, on le connais à peu près..

  • Génial !!! Vive la dope !!!

  • lance was the biggest dopehead of them all. the guy wasn't even a climber before his cancer. also his lie has been spread out the most as he's the most famous cycling. when all were clean pantani would've been on top as well

  • Comment removed

  • @drunkensailor112

yes indead before his cancerhe was just an ordinair cycler very strange

  • @444pirlo He had already won two Tour De France stages, won the Clásica de San Sebastián in 1995 and become the cycling world champion before he was diagnosed with cancer. He was far from ordinary. He was destined for the top of cycling.

  • @gumballbmx You forget to say that he was dropped on each pass of his first 3 TDF : clearly he was not a climber. Don't pretend he was too heavy and he lost weight, that is false, he weighted around 74-76kg for all his TDF until 2005 !

He won WC title on a tactical race, not because he was the strongest! He won flatland stages on TDF, if he had won a mountain stage, so we could have said that he was a futur GT contender.

Hinault, Merckx, Anquetil or Lemond were on podium of their first TDF,

  • @u368 You make several valid points. I don't have the data to support his weight throughout his career so I will take your word on it. I believe with or without having suffered cancer he would have been a dominating cyclist as his drive would have pushed him to excel (use drugs). I believe that all cyclists use illegal drugs whether they use them a little or a lot dependent on their aspirations dictate. Lance Armstrong just knew how to use them wisely and without detection.

  • @gumballbmx

yes we can say that also from Alex Zulle or Danny Nelissen Ivan gotti where are they now thats bull shit what you say he was an talent and lucky with some voctories because he was no treat for the yellow sweater

  • Yes, they were all dopers in this era. Pantani was a true stage climber from the start, though, a naturally gifted one. Armstrong was a time trialist and did best on shorter climbs found in classics, not the long ones. And Ulrich was a bunch sprinter who got transformed by epo into a mountainous stage racer.

  • Hey Pantani...good riddance to bad rubbage! He was a junkie, a cheater and a loser for leaving his family behind! Lance is a doper! The guys he dropped on Ventoux were dopers and Lance dropped them like they were amateurs. EPO is said to increase performance by more than 20%!

  • Great vid. What's the music??

  • wasn't it that Pantani attacted like hell the next day in order to force Armstrong's team to work and to piss off Lance? Marco was so angry about Armstrong 'giving' him the 'victory' on Ventoux... those were some epic days of cycling... of course all of those 'heros' juiced like hell... but still impressive to watch... thx for posting

  • i dont't think that anyone of the top10 in tour de france during the last 30 years wasn't doped. so i don't give a shit and take the sport as it is.

those were great duels in the early 2000 years. contador and the rest are no match to armstrong, ulrich, pantani in the years before

  • @edelmaker Thats probably the most common sense I've heard re:doping. I'd love to think they we're all clean, but it's a fantasy. It's gone like football, bland and money driven, these guys were the last of cycling's great characters. Marco was the working class hero. R.I.P.

  • Both brilliant cyclists, that was damn hard work!

  • STFU until he fails a test.... Until then, Lance says blow me! At least Armstong was no cokehead!

  • Comment removed

  • Fabuleux !!!

  • Fabuleux !!!

  • anybody know the song?

  • Tom Simpson at 3:45 :/

  • Quite possibly, THE best sports video of all time....

  • I wonder how people actually can say pantani was a better climber than lance? WTF! Pantani beat him ONE time in this "sprint" to win the stage. Lance didnt even bother to sprint. EVERY single other stage Armstrong CRUSHED him like a bug! And if pantani was ahead of lance in a mountain stage it was only cause lance let him go in a breakaway cause he was always 10-15 minutes down on GC. Lance haters FUCK OFF. STOP HATIN CAUSE YOU KNOW HE WAS 100000 BETTER THAN MARCO AND THE OTHERS. King ofthe Tour

  • @TheBojachaka Because physical laws are against Armstrong... only a better chemical enhancement can have made him better than a rider weighting 15kg less !!!

It's only since EPO and blood doping were common that big ass like Armstrong Indurain or Ullrich were able to beat light riders on mountains.

  • @TheBojachaka I do agree that lance is a better climber, but overall lance i just a much better cyclist then Pantani. Lance is a great allround cyclist. He can climb, and is great in time-trials. Pantani is only great in climbing.

  • @LUNCH155 No he is not a better cyclist... just a better doper...

Lance were never able to climb before working with Dr. EPO Ferrari !

On a clean field, Lance would never have been a TDF contender

  • @u368 Totally agree, Marco was a better MAN.

  • @TheBojachaka Dude, need drugs, can you put me onto Lance?

  • such a gimme from armstrong.

  • Incredible stuff...Mont Ventoux, the superb music soundtrack, Pantani drugged up to the eyeballs and Armstrong going at it head to head... If you like cycling you'll LOVE this...FANTASTIC.....

  • @kgooner i would like to kno

    w the name of soundtrack!!???

  • @kgooner ...Pantani AND Armstrong drugged up to the eyeballs...

  • @cliptop100 absolutely!

Watch Armstrong take off. Eddy Merckx on his best day, in his day, couldn't have pulled that off. That's the kind of performance only possible when you've got way more red blood cells than normal.

  • @madreitaliana E lo dici a me W pantani....

    W Pantani.

  • One doper vs. another. Let's hope that when Contador is suspended, we'll never see the same sprinting up a mountain we saw Armstrong do in those days.

  • Severo

  • I used to like watching Armstrong crush his opponents. But, if his legend is destroyed, I don't mind - maybe it would be better in the long run. Not that professional sports will ever be completely clean (money involved).

But, if it does happen, I'd like to know if anything's behind some other notable 'supermen', like Phelps, for example, and I really hope someone starts testing tennis players (especially Rafael Nadal) seriously soon. The current tests and testing policies are beyond a joke.
