this band is for fun, james said it himself. James has also wrote a bunch of songs for jfamous japanese artists and a couple of american ones and in the process they were all hits... We saw Tw live in Chicago last week and they were amazing. Much more of a rock sound than on the album. They have said many times that they wanted the album to be a pop album. They really could have made it in any genre that they wanted. I've doubt that you have heard Hanson's "The Walk" because it is an amazing album. Although, personally I think that he does have the weakest voice of his brothers.
Considering where each of the members come from, this makes total sense. This is nothing new. Redd Kross were doing this over 20 years ago. Before that check Cheap Trick, Dwight Twilley, Big Star, The Paley Bros. Glad to see Taylor involved. There should be more of this happening as far as seemingly unrelated musicians forming new groups. Brian Eno was a master at taking musicians from diametrically opposed styles and creating amazing music. This is what ought to be happening a whole lot more.
Anyone who disses this is an inept fool! Way to go you crazy-cats. Probably the best supergroup of all-time! The diverse mix of musicians from differing musical elements and 'era's' makes this very special!! Brilliant !!!!!!!
if he even wrote 0.0000000001 percent of soma and mayonaise then he must have known what real music was back in the nineties, but now he's involved in this pop shit?!
The Smashing Pumpkins are not legends. The Beatles are legends. The RollingStones are legends. Having a few hit songs in the 90's does not make you a legend.
It's too bad all of this hate for this band from SP fans, as if James is tied down to one type of music. And I met Billy Corgan at a Hanson concert and he told my husband and me how much he loves their music. So Billy likes pop music too, go figure.
Yes, but the point is, people young and old still know the Beatles. More than likely 30 years from now, most people will not know of the Smashing Pumpkins or most bands for that matter. Most bands come and go, however, there are the rare few that remain popular for decades. Just, in my opinion, seperates those bands into the catagory of legends.
Really? Is that your point? I thought you point was that you take youtube comments too seriously. Of course there's no way I can argue that the Pumpkins are as influential as the Beatles, or that they even compare.
Other than Nirvana though, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many bands that influenced more people in the 90's than the Pumpkins.
Haha and for the record, the Pumpkins may not be my cup of tea, but they have quite the following, and even though I may not like them all that much, I'm sure they're amazing for the genre they're in and the stuff I DO like from them is really good. I also liked Zwan a lot. I actually bought their album.
Zwan was a side project Billy from the Pumpkins did, a few years back. Pretty good stuff. I enjoyed Lyric and Of a Broken Heart, but most of the stuff is pretty well done.
smashing pumpkins has loads of awesome songs who cares if they are hits or not that doesnt make em good and honeslty they own beatles and rolling stone...
it's too pop. i thought james iha would make it more... rock or something. but instead it sounds like every other male pop singer. sorry. but the last pumpkins album was actually surprisingly good, even though a lot of the old members weren't in it. much better than this shit.
(Comes back from lighting candles, clutching Corgan doll, shaking with rage)
"The more I think about it James, the more unfair it is...What is so damn special about you that you have spent years going about your business, not living off the Pumpkin name, not spitting on the memory of all that was Pumpkins?...Tinted Windows???...I dont understand???.....Im your biggest fan...I loved you on the last Pumpkin tour eventhough you didnt look like yourself.....Were you under the weather?..."
"Yes James, why oh why couldnt you just rehash the same crap like Corgan?...You know you could have written the second version of "Mayonnaise"... Why???... Why must you try to do something with some originality?... I dont love you anymore....I never did."
(Goes to light candles on the homemade Corgan shrine. Would hate to upset the "Gawd", you know.)

I'm sorry to see James Iha fall so down.... This is the reason why Billy is right in kicking him out of the Pumpkins .... I'm really dissapointed
quisieravolarmasalla 2 years ago
billy didn't boot him, he didn't want to be in the band anymore.

This is what ought to be happening a whole lot more.

hey if you dont like it then dont like it, but stop the negativity! it better than you could do...

Anyone who disses this is an inept fool! Way to go you crazy-cats. Probably the best supergroup of all-time! The diverse mix of musicians from differing musical elements and 'era's' makes this very special!! Brilliant !!!!!!!

oh-my-god.
james has lost the fucking plot
if he even wrote 0.0000000001 percent of soma and mayonaise then he must have known what real music was back in the nineties, but now he's involved in this pop shit?!
im really disapointed - this is a joke.

This is so, so bad. And I thought I would love anything Taylor touches.

Not what I was expecting but whatever floats his boat I guess......
Putting aside the whole 'super-group' thing it's quite a shit song. Seriously dull guys.

Avril Lavigne has some serious competition now. Why would iha join such a crappy pointless band? such a shame.

James iha is a legend in music
platnium1811 2 years ago 2
wrong. he was part of a band that's a legend, and he's proven that he had nothing to do with making that band a legend.
craigor69 2 years ago
The Smashing Pumpkins are not legends. The Beatles are legends. The RollingStones are legends. Having a few hit songs in the 90's does not make you a legend.
mmmbopingmommy 2 years ago
by that logic, i could easily respond by saying that having a few hit songs in the 60's doesn't make you a legend either.
craigor69 2 years ago
27 number one hit songs and countless others in the top ten. Also the only band to have the top five songs in one week.
mmmbopingmommy 2 years ago
christ, go write a book, you take things too seriously.
craigor69 2 years ago
I agree wholeheartedly.
When the Pumpkins make an entire CD that everyone, old and young, know the words to, let me know.
(See 1 by the Beatles)

It's too bad all of this hate for this band from SP fans, as if James is tied down to one type of music. And I met Billy Corgan at a Hanson concert and he told my husband and me how much he loves their music. So Billy likes pop music too, go figure.
mmmbopingmommy 2 years ago
as for you, nubcake, the beatles have 30 years on the pumpkins, which would be why old people know them.
craigor69 2 years ago
Yes, but the point is, people young and old still know the Beatles. More than likely 30 years from now, most people will not know of the Smashing Pumpkins or most bands for that matter. Most bands come and go, however, there are the rare few that remain popular for decades. Just, in my opinion, seperates those bands into the catagory of legends.
mmmbopingmommy 2 years ago
Really? Is that your point? I thought you point was that you take youtube comments too seriously. Of course there's no way I can argue that the Pumpkins are as influential as the Beatles, or that they even compare.
Other than Nirvana though, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many bands that influenced more people in the 90's than the Pumpkins.
craigor69 2 years ago
Nubcake! Thanks! This coming from a person who still thinks it's funny to end their name in 69
WonderboyAhoy 2 years ago
good argument, i stand corrected.
craigor69 2 years ago
Haha and for the record, the Pumpkins may not be my cup of tea, but they have quite the following, and even though I may not like them all that much, I'm sure they're amazing for the genre they're in and the stuff I DO like from them is really good. I also liked Zwan a lot. I actually bought their album.
Cheers.
WonderboyAhoy 2 years ago
lol we sorta agree on something. i actually like zwan better than the pumpkins. the zwan album was nothing compared to the live show.
craigor69 2 years ago
Don't laugh, but what is Zwan? I'm curious to check it out.
mmmbopingmommy 2 years ago
Zwan was a side project Billy from the Pumpkins did, a few years back. Pretty good stuff. I enjoyed Lyric and Of a Broken Heart, but most of the stuff is pretty well done.

Thank you!!! :)

smashing pumpkins has loads of awesome songs who cares if they are hits or not that doesnt make em good and honeslty they own beatles and rolling stone...

Wow that's the guy from Hanson my he's grown I didn't even know. Saw them at Bamboozle and thought they were amazing!
JessPk212 2 years ago 2
it's too pop. i thought james iha would make it more... rock or something. but instead it sounds like every other male pop singer. sorry. but the last pumpkins album was actually surprisingly good, even though a lot of the old members weren't in it. much better than this shit.

MinhaEstrelaPreta 2 years ago
(Puts on mock voice of disdain)
"Yes James, why oh why couldnt you just rehash the same crap like Corgan?...You know you could have written the second version of "Mayonnaise"... Why???... Why must you try to do something with some originality?... I dont love you anymore....I never did."
(Goes to light candles on the homemade Corgan shrine. Would hate to upset the "Gawd", you know.)
