  • Simple: Que chingon.

  • Very Nice! Anyone with half a brain should dig this half as much.

  • There's something missing in this video...oh yeah, capable musicians.

  • Tony rocks it!

  • This band needs to come to Liverpool,UK!

  • This was the most awesome thing I've seen in months.

  • no mames porque no fui a verlo?

  • wtf is this...?

  • Cuántos años tiene qué salió eso!?

  • PS I concur with the others here who agree Tony Levin is a really nice, classy guy.

  • Oh, Tony. OMG. This is hard to watch. I'm a huge KC fan and Tony fan, CGT fan, etc.... heck, I have MET Tony. But this... not one of his finer moments. Part of it is the very, very bad audio mix, to be fair. But... yeah maybe it's time to leave Elephant Talk alone unless Adrian's around to sing it. Holy crap. Holy freaking crap.

  • Best stick player since Alphonso Johnson. Thanks for posting! And the guitarist is excellent, playing both Belew and Fripp parts.

  • @sluggh - I just can't agree:

Tony tries, but vocally just doesn't get the amiable off-beat character of Belew, and despite being an amazing bass player, his stick style is too different (bass-driven) to even be compared with most stick players.

the guitarist is picking the easier of the two parts and playing that, while the *two* keyboardists cover the rest!

All in all, not bad - but not Tony's best, either ...

  • Best stick player since Alphonso Johnson. Thanks for posting!

  • This is allright, but it ain't Crimson. The guitarist sounds like he's struggling.

  • Adrian Belew, Y U NO HERE?!

  • groovy

  • I meet Tony Levin in a hotel elevator in Brentwood(LA) in '07. He was promoting his "Stick Man" cd..what a fine gentleman. His manager got me a CD and poster autographed..It was very cool!!..

  • 30 years pass and the moustache remains.

  • Holy shit! It's Larry Fast on the keyboards?!

  • @darthmaul33 Yes, finally someone who knows how cool this is...

  • its not the same without belew, still pretty good though

  • primus has certainly taken influence.

  • they should have had me on guitar...jeeze..hell, anybody else...i guess I'm used to the Crimson lineup...actual elephant samples..thats pretty rough.

  • amazing musicians and amazing performance but the Sound technician ruined all!

  • Jerry Was a Racecar Driver into ??

Ahora yo pregunto: hacía falta cantar Tony ????

  • A copy of Primus?

  • @ivandruping are u fucking kidding??

  • @ivandruping you cannot be serious... YOU CANNOT *BE* SERIOUS!

  • @ivandruping it's Kink Crimson 1980. Maybe Primus coved it, like they did "Thela Hun Ginjeet" from the same Crimson album. This is the Stick player from that album (Tony Levin), among about seven thousand other albums (King Crimson/Peter Gabriel/John Lennon/Paul Simon/Pink Floyd/Andy Summers/ etc., etc........).

  • @ivandruping

This song was written in 1981, before Primus were even formed.

  • It's all in the moustache.

  • I like Tony Levin, he looks like a nice guy, also he looks like the "strongest man on earth" from every cartoon. Bald and moustache, y'know

  • Needs Belew...........................

  • Primus springs to mind a little...

  • hahahah for some reason i keep coming back to this video, it's so bad it makes me laugh. Tony Levin is great in King Crimson! haha but doing his own thing... you get this... talk... talk.... agreeeements

  • @reedmcdonald

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't 'Elephant Talk' a King Crimson song to begin with?

  • did he just say "shit talk" ?..

  • Nice but i don't like Tony's way of "singing"... And the drummer is really nothing when you know Bruford.

  • @MrSuperdico

That stick thing he plays sounds like shit.

What a goofy tinny stupid sound.

He should stick with a real guitar or bass.

    Very lame tone.

  • The guy who produces this show is a mother fucker and must be sued or something!

His name is Ricardo Rocha and I severely recommend that you send agresive e-mail to his in-box for putting Tony Levin in mexican public tv.

Very few people get to know King Crimson in Mexico and when their music finaly got a massive venue it happened to be the cheapest show ever. The fastest milk drinker in town was presented after this, I recall.

  • @Adoniram1986 I don't understand, why that guy must be sued? KC are popular in Mexico, maybe they are not selling big stadiums, but their past concerts here were very well attended and the band released one oficial recording from one of those concerts. I know this program is not the best in mexican TV, but there are worst! At that time, in which massive TV channel would you have liked to see Tony Levin?... on Televisa??????? (not likely to happen)... Once TV?? (yeah, sure, massive)

  • Loved the guitarist quoting "Baby Elephant Walk" @ 3:58

  • GAY MOVIE SOUNDS

  • @MADEINMAIDEN

youve obviously never seen a gay movie.

  • @greeeenmachine Actually, he has. This was his professional opinion on the matter.

  • Yup, those are deffinetly bass fingers that have been seasoned throughout the decades.

Look how flat Levin's finger tips are.

  • he shouldn't have talked...LOL other than that, thumbs up

  • i saw this man live in foro sol with peter gabriel, he is epic

  • Catch the guitartist's quote to "Baby Elephant Walk" by Henry Mancini at 3:59? Very cute.

  • @EdMuse1122 That quote was subtle. Good catch!

  • Meshuggah should cover this

  • terible version of the king crimson´s elephant talk song. The King Crimson version is much much better. Belew and Fripp are amazing. Tony Levin also but his band is not like KC

  • Awesome!

  • Tony RULES!!!!

  • Dam He's good!!!

  • Uncle Tony demonstrates what funk is all about with some very syncopated riffing , and incredibly delivers the humorous dialogue on top without missing a beat and no clams!!!

  • That totally kicked ass.

  • lolll Levin shouldn't try singing :P

  • You kids comparing this to Primus do realize this song was around years before Primus came into existence, right? Claypool is talented, but once I started listening to 80s Crimson I realized I'd largely been wasting my time with Primus.

  • @kevgamble Even so, this is DEF. something Claypool would jam. He's a strange guy, and he should love this (if he already doesn't).

  • @Ryoku1989 That would be interesting to see Claypool he tapped it without a Chapman Stick, definitely worth the price of admission!

  • maestrooo!!!!!!

  • oh si, fue en animal nocturno

    hahahaha

    Tv Asquea!

  • very much reminds me of Primus

  • @computerkid1212 definitely in the same realm, kinda like Les and the Holy Makerel, I like it.

  • @RantzinmyPantz or Sausage rather... always mix them up

  • @xMetalUpYourA55x jajajaja no estaria tan mal tan xP

  • @xXmusicman007Xx

  • this songs seems like recalling Zappa's style...awesome job! =)

  • Very nice performance here! Tony does an admirable job on vocals as well.

  • he made LTE with Dream Theater - Myung, the album with the best prog song ever made in the history of music

  • hey do you know were can i see the full show?

alguien sabe donde ver el programa completo?

  • Poor Tony - this is not the skill set he is used to... But he does a fine job of covering vocals

  • apologies if it's already been asked and answered - but do we know the date of this performance?

  • historical performance hehehe

  • tony levin is a master, he got good voice also, tough its hilarious

  • a) he's not playing a bass, it's a Chapman Stick. "Basstapping" is a misnomer -- you would more properly say "hammer-ons".

    b) the appeal of this song relates to the rhythmic interplay, both in the instruments and in the lyrics. It's not meant to be a pop song, with a sweet melody you hum along to. Many ProgRock fans hate that stuff, instead preferring their compositions to be intricate and challenging. Luckily, there's plenty of music to go around, so everyone gets to listen to what they like.

  • a) thank you for correcting me with the "Basstaping/hammer-ons" thing, BCWolf. People always like it when you are correcting them. ^^

    b) "...relates to the rhytmic interplay"? in the instruments ok! Its interesting to listen to it. About the lyrics. Come on, you could not spoof music in a better way than that.^^

I know its not meant to be a pop song. But if you crap on a tasty pizza it just wont stay a tasty pizza. even if you crap in the beat of the peppershaker.

  • people hate progressive and experimental music because it is, well, progressive and experimental.

People dont like to be challenged to think. They hate surprises and are afraid of the unknown.

They want to consume what they already know and they are comfortable when they are confronted with something that is common to them.

That is why people enjoy bad pop music instead but it applies to everything in life and human nature. Average human minds are simple, prog is not. That is why, nothing else.

  • Well everyone has a right on his own opinion I guess. But did Tony Levin play with Porcupine Tree? When? I did see one of them Crimson guys before PT 2 months ago, was kinda crap to be honest, didn't like it. But Tony Levin is amazing

  • No he wasnt playing WITH PT he was playing with the crimson gusy before PT when I saw them in Köln Germany. They where named "Stickmen". Sorry that missunderstanding was my fold.

Yeah Tony Levin ist amazing youre right. It would be cool to hear him on a PT song. =)

  • @HilliIndustries I guess that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Levin is brilliant and even if he dropped the stick on his foot and limped around cursing it would probably sound cool.

    Just sayin....

  • Yes but I can understand why people like chocolate or vanilla ice cream. But when did I say Levin isnt brillant? Hes fuckin awesome. But this music sucks. Honestly people... you can not seriously like the whole song! Its more annoying than my nephew.^^

  • So I guess you are saying you don't like elephant talk. There are things I like less from levin also. I thought you were dissin levin ( I have actually heard people say that he sucks) if you like levin we got no problem. As far as elephant talk goes, I can take it or leave it. It sure isn't his or crimso's best work. The rest of discipline is better. But, alas I am a van der graff freak so I just lump crimso and levin in with genesis, floyd, et al.

  • This music sucks?? My friend, let me tell you you are fucking wrong. If you don't like it, ok, go live with it, but you can't say this is bad. King Cirmson is the fucking history of the fucking music man. You are a fucking igonrant. Who do you think you are to say that? Who was the fucking ass hole that told you you can talk to people such a bullshit?? You'd better wash your filthy mouth before you say something, ok?

  • i just realized "jerry was a race car driver" is a total rip-off of that song

  • Err make that 'Octoban.'

    I misspell when under stress

    I misepell when under stress

    :-)

  • Man, I just don't envy the other players trying to fill those shoes. Tony is a genius, the guys in his band aren't bad musicians, but it's just virtually impossible to do. The drums in particular were the sort thing only Bruford could pull off. Those thin clear Obcoban-like drums (Dragon Drums) he used in lieu of a hi-hat on ET were only made for a short time. Sort of sums it up. There was so much talent onstage in that lineup of KC it boggles the mind. Thanks for the vid.

  • the bottom two commenters get the musical equivalent of Darwin awards. At what point is he TRYING to sing, idiots? There wasn't singing in the original and there is no singing in this one and if you can't dig that it's back to your Michael Bolton collection for you two.

  • @arpakyna Wrong. Adrian Belew sang in the original.

  • @passonno

Yeah... Sort of "sang".. maybe. :) The point is that those two morons think Levin isn't singing like that intentionally, but because he can't.

Ok, maybe dohead was just trolling, that "just fire the bass player and get a new one who can sing!" comment is brilliant. :D

  • @arpakyna hmmmm, did the posters you comment on even realize that the song is called Elephant TALK!?!?!

  • Every time I see Tony play the Stick, I regret giving up on trying to learn it. But then I remember how farking difficult it was... :-)

  • I really love Crimson, and most with Levin playin there but I always find his solo versions of the song so weird in the vocal aspect, tough he has a great voice he seems to battle a little with timing, where Belew certainly masters.

  • I Agree.... He has a GREAT voice,, I MEAN GREAT,,, but belew, when he sang this song, he seemed more relaxed,,,, but you have to understand that is really hard to sing this song

  • I know!!!

  • He's playing a different part of the arrangement on his instrument, remember! Belew was coping with "guitar part + vocal", while here Levin is doing "Chapman stick + vocal". Comparing the two is not comparing like-with-like!

  • king crimson played this so much better it sounds empty

  • @zachery405 go and see king crimson videos, in the top say "TONY LEVIN" redneck!!!

  • lol

king crimson 3 (desperado version) :D

  • yeah in azteca trece, I do not know what does tony levin there, but it viva México, finally something good on their television ... yeah

  • yes! Surrealist!!!! Tony Levin in Azteca 13??, jaja, Increìble!! ..YES!!

  • I love this song man...........

  • The coolest Bass ever made! The Stick

  • The stick isn't a bass dude, it's its own instrument.

  • His singing is nice... and he plays the stick at the same time. Damn...

  • Tony is a legend but he simply sucks at singing.

  • This is simply not true firedblood. Listen to his solo album "Resonator" and you will soon learn that he has a very good voice. His backing vocals for Crimson were also fantastic.

  • Tony awesome...poor guys in the back.....can't keep up....looks like they had a case of beer before the song....the drummer..oh my..poor soul

  • the guys in the back DON´T suck!! you can see they're enjoying and feeling the music...the drummer does a great job...did you notice him hitting the decoration as if it was part of his kit?? THAT´S PROGRESSIVE MUSIC SPIRIT

  • fuck yeah mang

  • Now I know why Tony Levin isn't a vocalist.

I won't dare knock his skills on the Chapman though, he is the best.

  • fuuuuuuck the chapman stick it's not a fucking bass or guitar it's a chapman stick. the technique is two hands tapping

the execution of this instrument and the tuning is different.

  • Retards. Chapman stick uses both bass and guitar strings. i don't even know why I bother posting comments on YouTube videos because 90% of the people who do are ignorant jackasses.

  • belew 'spoke' this better on the album

  • Only thing good about this is the sound quality. Way to go, levin.

  • Just cause his stick contains guitar strings does not mean it aint a bass. I hear bass dont you? to me its an instrument that is both bass and semi guitar.........any way I love this song and the performance is great !

  • I must say, the sound guy for this show should be ashamed! I gotta say this is the worst I've ever heard this great song sound.

  • you havent been on youtube much have you... lol

  • we primus we suck!!!!!!!!!!

  • worth ejecution, but... it's Tony Levin!!!!

  • I did a session with Tony Levin & Gabriel awesome ..

  • dont joke around evryone that is not a real bass.

    it has guitar strings...

sorry but you need a real bass something with massive strings

  • It has bass strings on it numbnuts. There are bass strings and melody strings.

  • so its not real bass >.>

  • That was my girlfriend that wrote that comment..

  • It's a bass player...on a steek!!!

  • Animal Nocturno

  • very cool version of an aweosme song
