I worked with a guy from somewhere in California (can't remember where) and he talked about going to punk shows at a club that had bouncers that were Samoan and not too nice. I always figured that's where this band got there name, now I know the truth of the name, thanks bigsaga! Great band, I learned about them from an ad in a German import of Everything Went Black around 1985, so I missed the boat.

@bigsaga1 the word "samoans" had been floating around ever since Gregg Turner's attending monthly Back Door Men fanzine meetings 1975-78, often held at DD Faye's family's house in Carson,CA, where there are lots of big Samoans (Carson had a highschool state football dynasty in the 60's/70's and sent some players all the way to the NFL) and according to gregg, the neighborhood samoans once or twice were sitting on the hood of gregg's car when a meeting ajourned.
