in Islam, showing any part of a woman's body is for her to decide. Men are not supposed to force them to wear the burka or Hijab or whatever. If the woman decides to cover her hair, good for her. If a woman decides to cover her face (in emulation of Prophet Muhammad's wives), good for her.

I must add: it's so difficult sometimes to express my point of view, because there are so few letters in a comment. Anyway, what I mean is: in Christianity a women is equal to a man. In many Muslim countries women can do much for their country. In Turkey some women are very successful business women makning a lot of money. They are perhaps doctors in Universitys and so on.

when you say "don't Muslims like you try to stop those odd people", if by "odd people" you mean those that have wrongly turned to violence, the answer is yes. But you have to understand that until the incarceration and oppression of Palestinian ends, and until the invasion of innocent Muslim countries ends, there is nor way to ensure that people who have lost their families and live in poverty without security can be expected to always react "rationally".

@islamophobia4dummies Why always talk about this Palestina? Palestina vs Israel is one problem at the Mediterranian sea. Afganistan is another problem in another place in the world. If something happens in Colombia (Christian) it's not my problem North Europe. Every problem must be solved with its own countries involved.

And it's not my problem, but I feel very SORRY for the poor women in Afganistan that wear that Budka (= I mean that one that looks like a tent with a net in front of their eyes. That type of Burka is so humiliating for the women that I almost cry when I think about it. It is the truth what I write. But it is not my problem. It is the men!

@CallOfPWNage If (I don't know 100% the name of the dress: Abaya?) Muslim women dress with a full covered dress showing only the face, isn't that enough for Imams to accept? And for radical Muslim men to accept?
What I cannot understand is, that the Muslim society always defend the Burka. I mean the Burka from Afganistan which is like a tent with a net in front of the women's face? Once again I write: it is not me a Christian to decide that, but why do you Muslim men defend such a dress?

@petereuropa radical muslim men will always go to the extreme, hence the radical. women arent supposed to b near men in the first place so even showing the face is a bit iffy. thers diff forms of burka so its up to the ppl to decide wat to wear. i remember hearing a lecture once, and the guy said "wen u hide sometin, its either bcuz its ugly, or bcuz its ur treasure. in islam, women r our treasure. wudnt u want to hide treasure from the rest of the world?" i dont kno how else to put it.

@CallOfPWNage We cannot continue this discussion. I understand that in Islam it's a men's world. I cannot see any harm to just show the woman's face. I know that there are many beautiful Muslim women, and why have to hide it. It's a gift from God. A woman is not a car it's a human being. It's no harm to show a woman's face. And I know that in some Muslim countries women buy beautiful designed scarves in for example silk just to show their beauty. The former Pakistan PM B. Bhutto was a beauty.

@petereuropa im sorry to break it to u but women in the west are the oppressed ones. women in islam hav so many rights and options tht they otherwise wudnt hav. im pretty sure if u asked a muslim woman wat she thought about convering herself, she wud b happy with how she was. even in the bible it tells women to cover themselves. nuns cover themselves. wud u consider them to b oppressed? one thing to understand is tht not every aspect of islam has to b americanized, and a woman is one of those

what I want to write is: I DISLIKE the BURKA! And I do not understand why in some Muslim countries the women hide their face - and in other not. Show the beautiful face of the Muslim woman!

@petereuropa yes it is difficult for me too. im afraid ur wrong about saris. they show the whole back of the woman wile only the chest and below the waist is covered. women can b businesswomen if they want. as long as they r carefully dressed. the only reason westerners hav a problem with burkas is cuz ther not used to having ther women coverd in public. y wud neone want to degrade women by giving them tight, revealing clothing? im sorry to say but muslim women r more modest than that

@petereuropa i think wat u were trying to say is u dont like the niqab, which is the face covering, the burka is the scarf and dress. jus to calrify, niqab is jus preference, burka is wats mostly preferred. again, some ppl prefer to wear the face part too, its all preference. in islam only the burka is required. and yes i agree with u. thanks for a resonable arguement and i really do hope u change ur mind about it

Just want to ask: what is the name of the all covered (like a little tent) with a net in front of the eyes that many women wear in Afganistan? This so called all covered dress that the Talibans want women to wear. What is the name of it? I thought the name was Burka, but now I understand that I was misinformed about this.

@petereuropa the part tht covers the face is called a niqab and the dress with jus the scarf is called the burka. im not sure if the afghan dress has a specific name for it but im paki and thas the names ive learned. as the burka is the requirement i agree that forcing ppl to wear the niqab also isnt good. but the thing is hardcore muslims try to adhere to the strictest ideals. and thers ppl like tht in every religion.

in Islam, showing any part of a woman's body is for her to decide. Men are not supposed to force them to wear the burka or Hijab or whatever. If the woman decides to cover her hair, good for her. If a woman decides to cover her face (in emulation of Prophet Muhammad's wives), good for her.

When I look at reportage from Kabul for example, I see women walking in the streets with these "tents".And furthermore, in the -west we want to see other people's faces when we work. Why hide the face of a woman? We must comunicate with eachother, and it's also important for security reasons. For example I want the West to forbid black (=all colour helmets=bikes). Have a nice day

It is because Muslims are required to respect their differences about these things...we do not force each other to our legislative views on these matters. All processes of legislation are accepted by the other groups.
