White Star had been an American owned company for years (until the late 1920) before it became British owned. A few years later White Star merged w/Cunard becoming Cunard-White Star Line. The last White Star liner was RMS Britannic 1930-1960.

@sideslide23 QM2 recently was docked near the Allure or Oasis of the Seas in Ft Lauderdale. From the side they look about the same size BUT the RCI ship is much wider and not as good looking. Even though there are a few larger ships QM2 has so much more presence. The sleeker lines and color scheme makes QM2 look more impressive.
QM2 may be smaller than the Oasis and Allure of the Seas but they are geared to completely different markets. QM2 is a high-speed premium luxury liner while Oasis/Allure are mass-market cruise ships that cruise (slowly) in the Caribbean. QM2 can take on the nasty N Atlantic and still keep to a high-speed schedule. Most other ships can't do that today.
I saw this ship in Quebec City about two months ago..... we went down to it and walked it's full length.... a stroll taking us over 5 minutes one end to the other.

QM2 only has fine stores with fine clothing and jewellery and souvenir shops. I love QM2 I know all about it.

@bangkapi10240 QM2 was near the Queen Mary in Long Beach on her first visit to San Pedro (Los Angeles). QM2 came as close as possible to her retired fleetmate for a photo op. Due to QMs deep draft, she was limited on how close she could get to QM1. There are several images of the two Queen liners on the internet.

Queen Mary 2 cannot fit through the existing Panama Canal. When the new larger locks open in a few years, this ship and most other mega ships will be able to fit. A 'Panamax' ship cannot be longer than 965 feet or wider than 106 feet. Queen Mary 2 is longer and wider.
You know, the only reason I REALLY love the Queen Mary 2 is because it was inspired to be the SS Poseidon in the 2006 remake "Poseidon". In the 1972 film, the RMS Queen Mary was inspired to be the SS Poseidon. If you all are interested to know the largest ship in the world is, it's the Oasis of the Seas.
Brochure rates for the World cruise on QM2 range from $19,000 for an inside 'Britannia grade' cabin to nearly $70,000 per person for a Queens Grill suite. There are three basic catagories of cabins starting w/the Britannia grade, then Princess Grill mini suites and finally Queens Grill suites. The large 'Duplex apartment' suites (the two-story suites overlooking the swimming pools) are priced even higher.
RMS is short for Royal Mail Steamer (ship). The term was used on British registerred ships that carried the mail. Queen Mary 2 has the designation of RMS but she most likely never carries any mail or general cargo. QE2 could carry cargo such as automobiles but QM2 cannot.

Secondly, just because the Titanic used the prefix RMS, doesn't mean it was solely a British ship. Take the QM2 for instance. With the 220,000 Oasis of the Seas about to enter service, QM2 is now the 2nd longest passenger ship in service. The 150,000 ton QM2 is still longer than the 154,000 ton Freedom/Independence of the Seas. That aside, QM2 is still a faster ship w/a top speed of 30knots and able to withstand the fierce North Atlantic the others can't handle.

@bangkapi10240 QM2 was near the Queen Mary in Long Beach on her first visit to San Pedro (Los Angeles). QM2 came as close as possible to her retired fleetmate for a photo op. Due to QMs deep draft, she was limited on how close she could get to QM1. There are several images of the two Queen liners on the internet.

Queen Mary 2 cannot fit through the existing Panama Canal. When the new larger locks open in a few years, this ship and most other mega ships will be able to fit. A 'Panamax' ship cannot be longer than 965 feet or wider than 106 feet. Queen Mary 2 is longer and wider.

You know, the only reason I REALLY love the Queen Mary 2 is because it was inspired to be the SS Poseidon in the 2006 remake "Poseidon". In the 1972 film, the RMS Queen Mary was inspired to be the SS Poseidon. If you all are interested to know the largest ship in the world is, it's the Oasis of the Seas.

Brochure rates for the World cruise on QM2 range from $19,000 for an inside 'Britannia grade' cabin to nearly $70,000 per person for a Queens Grill suite. There are three basic catagories of cabins starting w/the Britannia grade, then Princess Grill mini suites and finally Queens Grill suites. The large 'Duplex apartment' suites (the two-story suites overlooking the swimming pools) are priced even higher.

RMS is short for Royal Mail Steamer (ship). The term was used on British registerred ships that carried the mail. Queen Mary 2 has the designation of RMS but she most likely never carries any mail or general cargo. QE2 could carry cargo such as automobiles but QM2 cannot.

You have no clue what you are talking about Firstly, the term "USS" is reserved for United States' military ships, not passenger liners. Secondly, just because the Titanic used the prefix RMS, doesn't mean it was solely a British ship. Take the QM2 for instance. Cunard Line evaporated as a legal business entity in 1998 when Carnival Corp acquired it, yet the name is still used on its current ships. So, to put it simply, Cunard is an American company because its owned by Carnival Corp. Get it??

That depends on what you define "it" as. If you are referring to where it was built, then yes, it is a British ship. But the company that owned it, operated it, and received compensation after the sinking was owned by an American company and headed by an American financier. That's my "point".

With the 220,000 Oasis of the Seas about to enter service, QM2 is now the 2nd longest passenger ship in service. The 150,000 ton QM2 is still longer than the 154,000 ton Freedom/Independence of the Seas. That aside, QM2 is still a faster ship w/a top speed of 30knots and able to withstand the fierce North Atlantic the others can't handle.
