  • great sound quality

  • in the spring of 1990 the GD was a fine oiled machine That whole tour rocked,Brent got 3, yes 3 songs, one night in Albany.Brent was really startin' to kick ass(10 yrs in,I know)When Brent died that was the beginning of the end...he was irreplaceable as far as I'm concerned.Hornsby/Welnick well Brents leslie would have blown them out into the night...BRENT had SOUL Bro.....!

  • Brothers, lovers of the sweetest sounding music on earth, may you all live long and great lives, and may the four winds blow you safely home.

  • Intense tune seen the Dead over 210 times especially liked the New Year's Show at Berkley and will never lose this tune from memory!!!

  • garcia is right on it...........

  • 2 people are deaf

  • It definitely is Brent playing here, but I watched the entire clip and the Help/Slip that came before this and never did get a glimpse of Brent in these or the several other tunes from this source. Maybe there was an obstacle that was blocking him, I don't know. Anyway it was definitely not '91, and whoever was calling someone else a name over some trivial detail from twenty years ago, a piece of trivia for you: you put the apostrophe before the number of the year so as to take the 19's place.

  • May the four winds blow you safely home!

    Roll away the dew...

  • This was my first Dead show ever. I wasn't even a huge fan of the band going in, but I was going out. The music, the crowd, the scene, all blew me away. I barely knew any of these songs, but it felt like I did, and I loved every one. Really get a copy of this show, it's amazing.

  • rolllll away, the doobs

cool echoes in the beginning from jerry leads

  • Your eyes looked for your mothers face.....

  • this is the best version i've ever heard

  • roll away the dew

  • Whoever shot this actually was very skilled in that he used the camera well within its technical limitations. Thanks to all involved, especially the band.

  • I am completely confused, but thats baseline...What idiot is interested in listening to "high quality" video? I was only listening to great music and having a blast..From where I usually stood, you make them out, but you could hear the bells toll!!!

  • best song ever. i never hear it.

  • vid quality makes little difference to me. sound quality is what really matters and this is perfect. i never heard anyone complain about the "video quality" when we'd rip bowls and listen to GD vinyl's in a dark basement.

  • This is fantastic! I loved the Help/Slipknot also. Thanks so much.

  • Beautiful playing

  • I was at this show. I brought my mother. Incredibly great show.

  • There's a new Dead Tribute band in New Orleans called Play Dead. Try typing in Franklin's, Feel Like A Stranger, Franklin's on youtube. There's only one Grateful Dead but I think Play Dead does a real nice job.

  • righteous my brother!

  • Happy Birthday Jerry.............

  • Jerry is like Picasso with a guitar! Miss you Jerome!!

  • @jeffrothom Bobby is like Picasson with a guitar, Jerry is more like Rembrandt.

  • I was there, I almost cried when I heard the start of help, slip, franklins.

  • the song is awsome sound but the vid quality is crap

  • @GNRrocker87 Crap compared to what?

  • @SpottheLooney to every other video that is better :) i mean come on man.. it cuts out!!!

  • @SpottheLooney I think the video quality is actually quite good, with nice choices of when to cut to Phil and then back to Jerry. The sound quality is excellent. Thanks for posting. I guess GNRrocker is comparing the quality to all the great stuff he has contributed for other people's enjoyment.

  • @GNRrocker87

Crap, really? For a audience video from 1990, I think its AWESOME quality.

  • @shelaghshemp yea definitely

  • @GNRrocker87 looks perfect to me

  • @GNRrocker87 Let's see you try tripping and operating a video camera.

  • @GNRrocker87 ............"if you get confused, listen to the music play"

  • @GNRrocker87 Dude, it was 1990. It's not about the video quality, it's about the music.

  • This isnt from 90,this is second night of 91.My friend had a mailorder ticket and security would not let him in,I on the other hand had a counterfeit with running ink which was accepted.Goodtimes

  • @bluebarry44 Brent died in july 1990 and hes the one playing in the video so it is 90' dick....

  • @bluebarry44 This is most definitely NOT 91...se the guy sitting at the keys? Yea, that's Brent Mydland...he died in July of 90. Did you wear a white USC hat to the show you went to in 91?

  • @GNRrocker87 True, but it's the sound that matters. Went to lotsa shows, can't say that I "saw" too many of them as my eyes were closed much of the time.

  • Comment removed

  • it was from 1990. were you expecting HD or 3D maybe?

  • Was at this one, Jerry rockin' the "high hair" awesome! To me I never look back in sadness, was so lucky to have had my years with these shows

  • Effin Beautiful!!!

  • 89/90 shows were the bomb! Thanks so much for posting this. All other jam bands are just other jam bands. Spring tour 90 (still have the tank top I bought at Nassau) was Jerry/Brent at their peak. Who taped this? How big was the camera back then?

  • @jjthedj you are right. the Spring/summer 90 tour rocked and I still have my shirts as well.

  • wow I needed that!!!!!!!!

  • You rock!

  • What inspired jerry to write this song?

  • nice

  • Professional. Spring 90' straight mature on the ball shit!

  • Nobody greater than Garcia. I can listen to his solos all day. Great footage! Wonder who has all of his guitars like Rosebud and The Tiger.

  • @Madman007 jerry willed the guitars back to the man who made them. the band took him to court claiming they belonged to the band. the maker won and he later sold them. one is owned by a guy here on j darks or something.

  • @Zendishwasher1 that is true acually there were 4 guitars built by doug irwin there was a huge legal battle he said all 4 were his and the band said that all 4 belonged to them so doug got to keep two (the tiger and wolf i beleve) they were sold at auction. theres vid on here of them being sold...also there was a few dead auctions in 07 and 08 another guitar owned and played by jerry was sold for 315,000 Jerry also had a few guitars made by steve cripe in in 90s im not sure what heppened to them

  • Roll away the dew

  • This has always been one of my favorites... you know what's hilarious...just found out that Jerry copped to stealing the progression from Lou Reed "Walk on the Wild Side". And the colored girls go...

  • Yep that's true. Doo da-doo da-doo. This is an example of the proper application of theft. No one would ever confuse this song for Walk on the Wild Side. It's a motif, reapplied in a totally different way. Contrast that to, say, Led Zep's theivery, which was blatant, and wholesale, and you see the difference. Compare Zep "Whole Lotta Love" to Small Faces "You Need Lovin". Zep stole the song credit from W. Dixon and the vocal interpretation from Steve Marriott. Judicious theft has its place, tho.

  • @sparkomatic Good artist borrow Great artist steal Clapton

  • Interesting-that's one I never got until now.

Kinda like "Smells like teen spirit" is a cop of "More than a Feeling" and "Misunderstanding" (in 12/8) steals the bass lick directly from "Hot fun in the Summertime."

That's what music is - like an ever-evolving cosmic recipe with some mighty tasty reslts. : D

  • This song just fills the spirit with happiness and joy - wow!

  • :-)

  • This song has some real scientific facts. Genetics, your eyes did look through your mothers face.

  • I love that line.

  • Crisp & Tasty

  • You had to see it live to get it... I never did till I went and once I did I went as many times as I could....first show was in Chicago at Soldier Field and if you have never seen 65000 people all get up and start dancing and not stop for 3 hours you have not lived.....instant Karma and friendship on levels not seen at any other place on earth......

  • I just don't get the whole Dead Thing....I can't stand this band...but I know many people like it.

  • ohhhh...I miss Jerry...this made me cry..great version...

  • wayyyyyyyyyyy cooooool Jerry spreadin the luv

  • Oooooooh YUM ! ! !

  • nothin' for the head like the good ol' grateful dead

  • man.. Jerry still brings tears to my eyes. RIP. I remember spinning so fast during a help-slip-franklin that the roundness of the sky compressed and was flat and I could see in all 360 degrees of direction at once. if you get confused...

  • listen to the music play

  • they sounded great on this tour. put a lump in my throat

  • Jerry didn't always know the lyrics but he always knew how to tear it up!

  • This is sweet. I saw most of the sping tour this year and all the Summer tour in 90' excetp Chicago = EVERY show was smokin hot ridiculous amazing - people were at a fever pitch for tix. i was gettin' crazy - The hottest time ever in my opinion

  • my favorite trilogy of songs =hotw+slip+franklin's tower
