Um, hey, in case anyone was wondering, this was a high school production. Some of you act like it's fair to compare it to the Broadway version. I thought they both did a really nice job, & as long as everyone had fun working on it, the show was a success in my book.
This is the prime example of why I hate school versions of great musicals. Kids who didn't grow up with RENT like me are just not able to understand and put the emotion and feeling required for the parts into the show. This was really terrible.
The whole thing was underplayed. Not enough energy. It should have had purpose and been explosive. If I were given the chance to actually play Mark in a show, I would give it so much more than is given here. You have to think of why he feels the way he does and let that emotion express itself physically, otherwise the performance is stale and underwhelming.
wow, roger was probs only picked on looks.....this was horribly bad, yes, horribly bad. roger-way 2 be flat or sharp like the whole song. mark-u were kinda boring and ur vocals were ok. ps u hav horrible harmonies and both can be very akward.
Sorry but i think that a School Rendition of Rent was a VERY GOOD idea, it gives young actors the chance to perform one of the greatest musicals ever.. However it was a VERY VERY BAD idea to let bad actors perform it with ametuer musicians instead of an instrumental music track
thats EXACTLY what I think. Everyones like "ugh, the school edition sucks" NO! The actors we have seen suck! If they were very talented, this would be awesome to watch. Not to say these guys are talentless, but I refuse to believe that out of everyone they could've chosen, they were the best choices.
@BiscuitsJoe As my school's resident sound techie, instrumental tracks are a nightmare to work with. If something goes wrong with the CD, you're just left with an awkward pause while the actors wait for the sound cue. The only negative side of a real band is that they tend to overpower the actors at times.
not alot of emotion at all. alot of pitch problems too especially roger. Mark sings ok but is very blank faced and feels like he doesnt want to be there.
I think it's an electric piano/keyboard, not a laptop... the part that appears to be glowing is just the white music pages with a light on them. A few times you can see him turn the page on the music.
aw that was really dissapointing that they didn't do the hug at the end. it is such a Joey and Chandler (of F.r.i.e.n.d.s.) moment! And especially in a stage performance, it would've officially noted that Rodger was back home.
movieluvr3 - In the Broadway version, Roger is in Santa Fe during the entire song, not just part of it. So, unless you want a long-distance hug, sorry.
aw well if that's so then they didn't make it very clear. i mean they're right next to eachother, as if he came back to mark, though i know they dont really acknowledge eachother.
In their defense, they do this exactly the same way staging wise for the professional version. I just saw it a week ago with Adam and Anthony. You just have to use your imagination and know the story, that's stage performance.

yes, actually. he is. this show was put on at st. jude's mental hospital in sidney, ny. it gives the kids with autism and down syndrome a chance to express themselves through musical theater. so thanks for the gentle reminder. ass hole.
Roger, don't become the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. Way overacted. Try studying Brad Pitt or other "Method" actors. Also, you seem much more comfortable in a regular classical singing voice... as opposed to attempting to exactly copy Adam Pascal's voice... it sounds forced and you're flat.
Mark... work on supporting those lower notes, buddy! Keep up the good work, I found your Mark very convincing.

At the "I don't own emotion, I rent" line Mark was supposed to be stronger than Roger..... Not the case here......

Roger had some awesome foot tapping skills. Other than that, it wasn't anything special.

They definitely could have picked a better Mark. Not that this person is a bad actor, I just don't think he understands the character very well.

Uhhh... doing a show with an instrumental music track is about the lamest thing you can do. A shitty real band is a billion times better.

Proof that a school edition of Rent was a really BAD idea.

they didnt change a thing, its just the calliber or performance gets lost in translation without the experience.
and for some reason, in all the videos ive watched form this particular cast/performance, the songs are either obscenely fast or obscenely slow
