lol that's just a placement error on my part. I was on the edge of the choir and had altos/bases around me mainly! sorry! We DID have Tenors singing..... just no where near where I was standing! haha!
We Are singing this song now. and surprisingly enough he just is opening his new opera in chicago next tuesday in chicago! Our school is near where he's going to be opening this and All of the girls in my choir would like him to come to listen to us sing.. so yeah
I was an alto, I sang this song with my highschool choir last year, along with A Boy and A Girl. I wish I knew Whitacre, he is an amazing person. You're very lucky to have met him!
NEVER interupt the man in mid sentence!!! He was probably gonna give them another compliment and then some chick in the audience tells a pointless story.
This is a beautiful piece, Barbara Ingram School for the Arts recently performed this piece at the Maryland Theatre and it wasn't nearly as beautiful as this choral group.
As a professional singer, choral conductor, Whitacre enthusiast, and (most importantly) mom, this is the sweetest video I've ever seen! The choir sounds fantastic, Eric Whitacre is completely mesmerizing, and the sweetly sleeping baby is just the icing on the cake. How her parents will love telling her this story and showing her this video when she's older!
while the actual music content is really good, i just feel like this song isn't as... genuine(for lack of a better word) as some of his other pieces.. But eric whitacre is a brilliant composer, and continues to amaze..
@aseretkavon - hahahahah thanks *bashful look*. I apologize for a couple of wrong notes though, but thanks for the compliment! Totally made my night :)
What a beautiful song, the tenderness it conveys is so heartfelt. What a gifted composer Whitacre is. I look forward to performing this song some day.
Our school's symphonic band is going to play the instrumental version of this song. I love it! I'm one of the french horns in the band, and with the piano, it sounds incredible.
I just got to watch San Jose State University Choir perform this today, and that was the first time i'd heard it. you sing it BEAUTIFULLY. :) i love the song so much that i bought it on itunes. <3
We're a choir of youngish adults, and many of our members are married and/or starting families. Both of the baby's parents are members of the choir, so she often joins us for rehearsals and that sort of thing. This was a very impromptu performance at a workshop.
actually, he wrote it for a pixar movie but the movie was never made (instead they made Kung Fu Panda) and so he kept it and tried it out on his baby as a lullaby and apparently that failed! haha! :) It's a really funny story!
love this piece. choir sings it beautifully and pianist plays very musically, as well. learned the piece to accompany some singers recently and found it a little more challenging than it sounds. kinda reminds me of the profound simplicity in some of Arvo Part's work.
My friend told me to look this up and it was amazing. But I was disapointed because he said a bass was holding a baby seal. I don't know why I thought that would be true. It's a cute baby though.
well, the baby's parents are both in the choir, so they usually bring her to rehearsal and they brought her on tour with us! Also, considering this was a very impromptu "performance", they just brought her on stage. :)
This video/ performance seals the deal. Thank you for sharing :)
