Yes I too had waited forever to hear what Mark Faulkner called the Edge theme as done by Guy Lombardo and he was right. The opening is a little over the top even for Edge but that closing music was as someone else wrote, perfect for a movie of 1934!!! If only the producers and networks responded to gigantic fan uproars like this over the years, we might have more than just 4 soaps suriviving after January of next year.
Thank you 'saynotoursoap' so stinkin' much for posting this clip. Totally, totally love it!! I was only 8 years old when this was originally telecasted. Wow, what a trip!! Sooo, this is the infamous 'Guy Lombardo type theme' that Mark Faulkner described on 'The Edge Of Night Homepage"? I like the opening, however the closing sounds like a 1930's/1940's big band out-take. Please, keep posting more excellent clips such as this. Godspeed, man thanks!! Still way too bad soaps are being dropped.
Thanks so much, sayno ... I had always wanted to hear the infamous first ABC open and close. The end theme wasn't as horrible as the open but both are so very un-Edge. I wonder if this is the only case of fans revolting against a change in theme music and the-powers-that-be giving in to the fans. I know "disco Guiding Light" was unpopular but I don't think the fan reaction (mine included) caused them to change it.
GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "The Edge of Night received its greatest publicity when co-writer GRACE GARMENT committed suicide. Ms. Garment created the Serena/Josie storyline about the woman with a split personality. Unbeknownst to anyone, she suffered from the same personality disorder."
It wasn't a bad piece of music... it's just when you think Edge you think sinister. This is too upbeat, and I'm not surprised the producers switched it back so fast.
This is still so amazing to see the night after the morning I first got to watch! Again, thank you both Alessandro and saynotoursoap for posting this!
If you mean the NY Supreme Court building, yes, it is frequently shown on Law and Order. You can find it at 60 Centre Street in Manhattan across from Foley Square. Later, the same facade is used in Edge's opening titles from 1980-83.
Yes, thank you to Alessandro and saynotoursoap! Never have gotten to see these scenes, because I had to miss these episodes for I'm sure was a school function when I was in 8th grade.
Amazing. I never thought I would hear this much talked about theme or the scene where Serena shoots Mark Faraday. Thanks.

This is wonderful. Love Louise Shaffer. I actually enjoy the closing theme. Just not the start.

Louise Shaffer is THE SH*T! Scene I wish I'd of seen:
RYAN'S HOPE
Kimberly: Mama, I want fame. I want fortune. I want Michael. I want Seneca. My life is horrible. You never gave me anything I wanted.
Rae: Kim, baby, have I got something for you. I've got a message from Michael and Seneca and all of the Ryans...and from me...myself
(Rae pulls out a gun from her sequined handbag and shoots)
POW!
Kim falls over dead.
End of scene.

@Freeflyur She would have to shoot Kim more than once. How about once each episode? For the entire run.

@Freeflyur Oh kimmy and rae they were the best..

Never thought I'd ever hear this theme, I've only heard about it. It's actually not too bad, it just doesn't fit the show (or the era) well.

Great scene that Ihave never seen. I always wanted to see scene since I do have the 2 back-to-back episodes where Adam unmasks Aunt Josie.
