He was an actor. He could tell the difference between reality and fantasy. I don't think it would mess with a great actor's head, which he was. Ever think in real life he had insomnia because he worked too hard? He was working on another film when he died. One of the things the Joker seems to represent is the fear of homosexuality. In this film the make up has lipstick smeared over the Jokers white face.
So this is why Ledger was cast, because he played a homosexual in an acclaimed film, and this made some people uncomfortable. Why else would someone think of him for this casting choice?
Or maybe they just respected Ledger's acting skills. He can be very dramatic and diverse. The Joker seems to represent, according the cast and directors, an extreme response to Batman's radical order. Basically, he represents pure anarchy and chaos.

Batman is dark mainly because Nolan stuck to the source material and a lot of the source material is very dark. Batman has been dark since it's beginning and was only made sunnier and campier during the 50's and 60's because of the Comics Ratings that took effect then and during the 60's tv show that was influenced by the more sunny and censored batman era. Otherwise, Batman has always been more of a serious affair that tackled dark issues like vengeance and dangerous criminals.
Robin was introduced early in the series. Batman was dark for a short time, and the art and story at that time were crude. The show was popular for a short time because it aptly pointed out some of the silliness, but the comics were better. I think Burton's films were well made. I hope this film does poorly at the box office, because Ledger should be remembered for more positive work.

That comic outraged me at the time because it seemed the reader was supposed to identify with the Joker and accept his terrible crimes, because he had a tragic past. I understand how a lot of people are faithful to the old 60's tv show and all that. But that was actually a departure from the Batman franchise's tone. Spun out of mocking the silliness that followed the Comics Code during that time. The batman before and after that has always been about crime. It had a very pulp influenced style and was pretty dark for it's time and continues to be dark and serious in todays comics. This movie is just staying faithful to that material.
personal I only like the joker when he's played by Jack. I hated Ledger even before this movie. So I not gonna waste money on this crap. I'm gonna wait for the penguin to come. He's my fav batman villian. I've always dream of Daniel Day Lewis playing him, that would be sweeeet!

Only 2 out of so many. If the second guy thinks its just bipolar searching, then he probably never graduated from high school and never thinks about anything important other than what to have for breakfast. And the first guy misses the point; no matter how dark or morbid things got there is always that sliver of hope (one of the last scenes prove it). And how does it seem "suspicious?"

He was an actor. He could tell the difference between reality and fantasy. I don't think it would mess with a great actor's head, which he was. Ever think in real life he had insomnia because he worked too hard? He was working on another film when he died. Most likely he was overworked and needed meds to calm down and function, like so many other actors. Nobody but him will know what went on in his head,so all we can do is admire his work and respect what he did.

Mabe the word deviant or predator would be better. He has bleached white skin, red lipstick, he is "gay", or happy, he wears purple, has green hair, accepts the negative connotation of "clown." These traits are effeminate and unsettling, while Batman is literally "armored" in his uniform, which also has a sexual implication. He defends the social order, which implies fear in the viewer of disorder.

Pfft new trailer my ass. And actually Two Face does come out in this movie, aside from the Joker. However the chances of making a sequel aren't very high and if it does happen it would probably be with Christopher Nolan directing it, which sucks because he did a REALLY good job with the Dark Knight and Batman Begins, I can't wait to see the Dark Knight again.

One of the things the Joker seems to represent is the fear of homosexuality. In this film the make up has lipstick smeared over the Jokers white face.
So this is why Ledger was cast, because he played a homosexual in an acclaimed film, and this made some people uncomfortable. Why else would someone think of him for this casting choice?

Batman is dark mainly because Nolan stuck to the source material and a lot of the source material is very dark. Batman has been dark since it's beginning and was only made sunnier and campier during the 50's and 60's because of the Comics Ratings that took effect then and during the 60's tv show that was influenced by the more sunny and censored batman era. Otherwise, Batman has always been more of a serious affair that tackled dark issues like vengeance and dangerous criminals.

Robin was introduced early in the series. Batman was dark for a short time, and the art and story at that time were crude. The show was popular for a short time because it aptly pointed out some of the silliness, but the comics were better. I think Burton's films were well made. I hope this film does poorly at the box office, because Ledger should be remembered for more positive work.

I haven't seen it because I would rather not at this time, but when I was 13 i read a Batman comic called "The Killing Joke," by Alan Moore. That comic outraged me at the time because it seemed the reader was supposed to identify with the Joker and accept his terrible crimes, because he had a tragic past. That comic also interpreted Joker's madness or mania as seeing the world as a sick joke that enabled his crimes, which was disturbing, and I wondered why the Joker was never killed.

I really enjoyed the 60's batman show because of it's cartoonish feel. I don't watch superhero films to feel like it's really happening. I understand how a lot of people are faithful to the old 60's tv show and all that. But that was actually a departure from the Batman franchise's tone. Spun out of mocking the silliness that followed the Comics Code during that time. The batman before and after that has always been about crime. It had a very pulp influenced style and was pretty dark for it's time and continues to be dark and serious in todays comics. This movie is just staying faithful to that material.
