Working classes resent when the rich derive so much of their wealth from their toil with so little to show for the effort. Normally, they will suffer such burdens because the alternative is death. But every once in a while the working classes receive so little for their effort and the rich remain so indifferent to that plight that revolution seems worthwhile. Marie had the misfortune of being Queen of France during one of those moments in history. But I won't shed a tear for her death.
@Komnenit Really? Only just because your rich? That's a stupid motive to hate somebody...Well I don't have a luxurious life but that doesn't mean I hate rich people....
France just hated her because she was a Hugenot (idk how to spell it) and the french hated them. They married them two so they could have peace between france the hugenots. Plus they didn't produce an heir directly after their marriage. They thought it was her fault but it was the kings fault cuz he had something wrong with his "no no" place. This was only known to the court and her. So this really ticked off france.
I wonder why she gets the bad rep for being a young, rich, and spoiled royal when there's a history older than she was of royals being extragavant and part of their lifestyle. Even today, they are naturally extragavant, even compared to our modern day celebs.
@PrincessKLS Because she was 'the opportunity' to make french revolution right then -as you say, she was just another royal member, as many before, who approaches her luxury chances for living, but greedy causes wouldn't hold for always..., even now. ;)
@PrincessKLS I'm not too sure about that. The Celebrities are definetly giving royals a run for their money. And it also comes with the job description. You aren't extravagent just for yourself, but also for the people. People want to see beauty and someone to idolize.
Interesting documentary, but the narrator's bad French pronunciation drove me mad. It always take until several words later for me to recognise that she'd said "Versailles", and that was solely from understanding the whole sentence.
actually it is true, if you do your research you will see it was most likely said by maria therese..... a monarch before marie antoinettes time and not marie antoinette herself.
She didn't even spend the public money, her mother theresa is one of the richest women in history, she was the equiv of a trillionaire, and Marie used that money.
The Liberal politicians and racist French public were jealous, so the government set her up and even when she went, everyone saw what true power freaks these politicians were... and another monarch came into power, which failed.
she did not say the infamous phrase let them eat cake ... that is inaccurate information for a documentary. It was another monarch before her that actually said that.
she is my favorite historical figure of all time. she may have had her excesses, but the way she handled herself in the time of the great terror is truly admirable. a true "daughter of the Caesars".
I have read up a lot on Marie Antoinette and I do not believe her to be the crappy person that they tried to make her out to be. She had a really hard life and was accused of alot of things she did not do as well as she was incredably misunderstood.
Marie Antoinette (baptised Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna (or Maria Antonia Josephina Johanna); 2 November 1755 – 16 October 1793) was an Archduchess of Austria and the Queen of France and of Navarre. She was the fifteenth and penultimate child of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and Emperor Francis I.
In April 1770, on the day of her marriage to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, she subsequently became Dauphine of France. Marie Antoinette assumed the title of Queen of France and of Navarre when her husband, Louis XVI of France, ascended the throne upon the death of Louis XV in May 1774. After seven years of marriage, she gave birth to a daughter, Marie-Thérèse Charlotte, the first of four children.
Initially charmed by her personality and beauty, the French people generally came to dislike her, accusing "the Austrian" of being profligate and promiscuous, and of harboring sympathies for France's enemies, particularly Austria, since Marie Antoinette was, after all, Austrian.
At the height of the French Revolution, Louis XVI was deposed and the monarchy abolished on 10 August 1792; the royal family was subsequently imprisoned at the Temple Prison. Nine months after her husband's execution, Marie Antoinette was herself tried, convicted of treason, and executed by guillotine on 16 October 1793.
Even after her death, Marie Antoinette is often considered to be a part of popular culture and a major historical figure, being the subject of several books, films and other forms of media. Some academics and scholars have deemed her frivolous and superficial, and have attributed the start of the French Revolution to her; however, others have claimed that she was treated unjustly and that views of her ought be more sympathetic.
I love old pictures - everyone looks so plain and funny looking with their grown up heads on child bodies or vice versa... You can't really tell who was genuinely pretty, who was ugly, or who was just plain fugly - they were all kinda equal on the canvas.
"Machiavellian" You know, I've heard this word before, knowing it meant something sinister. The first part of this documentary coerced me to look it up! :D
What a wonderful synonym for duplicitous!
The English language (especially in the west) is a shadow of it's former self, filled with vacant words and acronyms.
@ReignbowSmite She may have never coined the phrase "Let them eat cake", however she epitomizes it perfectly, (more than any other historical figure imo).
Yes all of the ills of the French court, government, social and class structure were all Marie Antoinette's doing. In fact if Marie Antoinette had not existed to be queen of France the French Revolution would never have happened. The Lord would have grinned and the people would feasted upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats and...
I don't think that Marie was as stupid as people make her out to be. i think she was just oblivious and spoiled and Naive in a sense and that was her undoing.
@MilkkShaikhh And what I said clearly made YOU mad, too, so some point! And this from a guy who uses the juvenile term "LOL." If you have better things to do, then why did you spend so much time blathering on in so many comments?. And yes, Native Americans are still living, and it's actually 0.68%, 2.5 million in a country of 311 million. And if my statements are wrong, then why aren't you giving any proof? Why are you only making claims? I just gave you a solid fact. Try it yourself sometime.
@MilkkShaikhh You don't know what I need! You whine about the fact that we have the death penalty and yet your country's prisons are notoriously horrible. And no, actually, the whole world knows nothing about my country, you pretentious fool. Other wise you wouldn't pin wiping out Native Americans on us, not after what your countries have done to them, and certainly not after the brutality practiced in French Revolution.
And don't you dare talk to ME about what my country is built on. I will tell YOU what my country is built on - It's built on the ideals of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, no differently than the new French Republic was built on Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. However, cruel attitudes that had been engrained upon much of the American people severely impeded the true expression of this. It's been a long time coming, but we have gotten there, or at least most of the way.
@MilkkShaikhh YOU HYPOCRITE!! Your country brought African slaves to the new world!! As a person of color myself, I and many other people of African decent in the Americas are here because an Englishman, a Spaniard, a Dutchman, a Portuguese and a FRENCHMAN had little regard for the dignity of their fellow human beings. NO Spaniard, NO Englishman, NO Portuguese, NO Dutchman, and NO FRENCHMAN has ANY right to condemn my country for slavery when you scum are the reason that we're here!!
@MilkkShaikhh And I never said that Marie and Louie were innoncent, fool, I just said that they were scapegoats. Yes, they did make matters worse with Marie's irresponsible spending and Louis' well-intentioned intervention that only made matters worse. But Louis was no despot, he was just the wrong guy at the wheel, but the Revolutionaries treated him as a despot. Much of what was going on Louis and Marie didn't know or understand. I never said that they weren't against the Revolution either.
@MilkkShaikhh Don't YOU ever dare tell me what to do!! Your Revolution boiled out of control and degenerated into savagery, ours didn't! You're so self righteous, you won't shut up about what my country has done and yet yours took over much of the known world. You dare to accuse my country of wiping out native americans and yet yours were among the countries responsible for their decimation, and thus I'M the one with no understanding of the world?!
@MilkkShaikhh And Native Americans!? My god, man! Your country had colonies here in the Americas. You, the Spanish, the Dutch, the Portuguese and the English came here, with African slaves and took the land from the natives, spreading diseases that wiped out most of them. And despite your claims, Native Americans are still here!! There still 2.5 million in the US and there's even more elsewhere.
@MilkkShaikhh Um, what? Dude, your comment requires a tad more clarification. Do you honestly think that I was referring to Marie Antoinette? Scapgoating her and Louis was the least of the violent extremism that you practiced. Many French nobles guilty only of being nobles met their end at the guillotine. Hell, you sent many of your own countrymen to their deaths over the most minor of offenses during you Revolution.
@MilkkShaikhh Yes we did, but at least we didn't brutalize anyone whom we thought was against our Revolution while you French tore countless innocents to shreds in yours.
Why did they say "the princess removed all of her Austrian garments"? Why don't they say it for what it is, that they forcibly STRIPPED a 14-year-old girl because of some idiotic French royal code bullsh*t?
@Mr1958louief i agree but not all Americans. During the so called declaration of independence there also existed slavery. All those excesses had to be taken from somewhere and built up by other people. Slavery and colonization is where the excesses of the western nations, including the us and France, come from.
@corcovadoquelindo Very Well Said!! I was just reminding those like myself, who were not taught in School about Their Help during the war. Bigotry is my Pet Peeve. We are Humans.. Take away the skin we look the same. You can also learn more excepting different Cultures.
@ann4ever15 i never suggested they should have stripped a 14 year old girl!! the actress should just be young LOOKING and childlike.. then it wouldn't matter if she was 30 years old! but this actress looks like 30!!! the important fact is that marie was sooo f* young when she married and became queen :)
A child born in luxary and sheltered from the world, pampered, denied nothing, giving nothing in returned or expected only to have babies and let the man lead. What do you expect out of any person who lives like that? She was a product of her environment. Stupid (not insultingly),selfish and wasteful.
I actually think that whoever goes in marie antoinette's position might have don the same thing... Who the hell won't be tempted to try those nice dresses, eat those delicious cakes etc. everyone who can afford those will really do the same.
Even now, most rich brats are doing the same thing as her. The only difference is that she is a Queen! She should've done better like checking out those poor helping them so they will like her more.
Did you know that on A&E web site does not have a video Biography of Marie Antoinette? I think is so bad of them.I have checked out " Woman in History , Political Figures, and Royalty" . The last king and Queen of France and they are not in "A&E Video Biography" Their WEB SITE SUCKS!!!
Marie Antoinette was a victim of her own world. She was not raised to be a queen, she was only taught how to conduct herself at court, and from the very beginning she was set up to fail. Imagine having your mother force you to get married at the age of 14 to someone you never met...and it's not like they had facebook back then. She was hated just for the fact that she was Austrian. Her husband was a complete loser who could not perform in the bed room.
@Skyfox009 yeah, Marie Antoinette seems like a good woman, a kind hearted wife, and a loving mother...its just that her husband is a sheltered fat bum that doesnt know a damn thing
@pcbb01 why does everybody keep being so mean about her husband? he did not actually do anything wrong except believe things he was brought up to believe. and actually by the time they died they truly loved each other maybe not in a romantic way, but if you think shes great well how do you think shed feel if people were blaming her husband for everything that went wrong?
@Skyfox009 aggreeing with you until the "her husband was a complete loser" bit, louis xvi was actually not a loser and for all he was made out to be he was a very good man,and it wasnt that he was "unable to perform in the bedroom" he just didnt know how, sort of.
@ihatechannelfour I exaggerated by calling him a "complete loser". I think one of the reasons Louis could not do his job which was to provide a male heir to the throne was because he was raised to hate everything Austrian since France and Austria were bitter enemies when he was a child. Once the alliance was formed he was all of a sudden supposed to marry what he hated his whole life. Whatever his issues with her were, I think she was blamed for all there marriage problems.
@Skyfox009 yeah, cos i read that his parents told him she was an austrian spy, also that movie by sofia coppola was not very good for his reputation cos it portrayed him as a complete loser, and then poeple like my sister who dont know any history other than in historican movies believe everything, ive been obbsessed with marie antoinette for nearly two years, but only recently have i learnt anything about louis, and i think he was actually a better person than he was made out to be.
@Skyfox009 Louis XVI loved Marie Antoinette very much. He was unable to consummate the marriage for a while but eventually did his duty and conceived children with his wife. He was not fit to be king and his real passion was to be a locksmith. The day the Bastille was stormed (the official start of the revolution) the entry in his diary was: Rien (nothing). When he was told of the uprising, he called it a revolt. His emissary disagreed: No, sire. It's a revolution.
I heard that they didnt like her cuz she was austrian but either way gosh!!!! i went to the palace of versallies a few weeks ago and wow is all i can say!!!
@poptropicafashion thank u finally some who has been to the palace. I did a whole tour of northern France they still have a village that was kept in the condition it was in that time to see that and then go to the palace of Versailles its a little sad being in a room with gold walls, gold ceilings, complete gold chairs with diamonds encrusted in it and to know people couldnt even find food to eat. Just saying if my children cant eat there's a problem.
I'm seriously confused. I'm really curious about the life of Marie Antoinette. Were the accusations against her true or not? And did she really say "Let them eat cake"? I think I read somewhere that it really was her sister-in-law who said that. And it did not mean anything offensive...
No she did not say " Let them eat cake" and she did not sexual abuse her children, "The Necklace Affair"
Some actress pose as the Queen and asked the {priest or some one higher up in rank} to buy an expensive necklace for her cause she did not want the people to find out how much she paid for it, and she would pay him back after she got the necklace. All of this took place in the cover of night on the palace grounds.
Ok they say that she did not know the suffering of her people, well I am pretty sure she could have just asked, or looked out in the villiage or somthing, I mean that is what Kings and Queens do, or kind of do, look out for there people!!!, I mean come on!!! how hard is it that you doun't know what is happening in your country?
@Hattaru Louis worried about the people remember Marie the only thing she new to do was to be a princess and her life was just in Versaille that is it. Also rally the Louis and Marie inherited this problem when there grandfather the king died. The fund of the French government were gone.
@1Historygenius I have to say that is very sad, I mean even in the Movie with Kirsten Dust just showed how she just loved the attenstion and also the close very very sad indeed. Not at all a good Queen in my book.
@Hattaru She is not a good queen and she is not bad one she is stuck with this there was no problem like this in Austria she is coming to a country where she has no idea what is going remember the French monarchy has also almost gone bankrupt when she arrives there are bad things Louis XVI did but mostly these problems where caused by kings before him they just became the monarchs at the wrong place at the wrong time.
@1Historygenius Indeed, you are right simply put at the wrong place at the wrong time, but I mean she did have a chance to not go bankrupt because well.. I think people would have told her how much money she had spend! but I guess wishful thinking, I am pretty sure she was not at all a bad person, but hear is my thing, what was she conficted of? and why did she die? what wrong did she do, because not paying attention to her people!.
@Hattaru The King is in charge of taking care of the people not the queen in truth the queen can run the nation once her husband dies or a son takes the throne the main job of the queen is acutally to produce a male aire to the throne. She may have done some nice things a queen is kind of like a wife to a president they have certain responsibilities I am not sure but it is possible Marie may have had charities she gave money to but remember all that money is from another country.
The FRENCH screwed themselves, because countries with Monarch's and Kings and Queens, we Americans and other countries Idolize. What is there in France now? Vers? The way they make money? Showing where their MURDERED KING, QUEEN AND PRINCE GOT SLAUGHTERED?GRAPES? It leaves us with no respect for you. How could the French slaughter their King, no less than their Kings widow and 10 year old son. Yo umake me sick. Makes me wonder why my family died in Battle in WWII sticking up for the same.
@07emily29 Yes. It wouldn't be easy to be married so young-esp. when children enter into the family. Keep up your interest in History. You come across as a bright person!
I just came back from Paris and Versailles, France. I went into Versailles Palace and walked in the gardens. I thought about Marie Antoinette as I also visited the Concergerie prison in Paris. If you put yourself in her shoes and realize that she was the mother of several children (2 of whom died) it makes you feel very sad for her. Rather than killing her, they should have just sent her back to Austria. This was the Age of Enlightenment and Reason my ass. They were bloodthirsty bastards
@OperaMystery80 I'd rather be foolish in the world's estimation and follow Christ, than be "enlightened." The elite who belong to secret societies believe that Lucifer illuminated Adam and Eve and that Jehovah and Christ are enemies of illumination. We are viewed as ignorant outsiders: the goyim. The ruling class is enmeshed in the occult. France has brazenly publicized its desire to restore the Tower of Babel to Nimrod. Nimrod was a rebel in opposition to the Creator. NWO=Luciferian worship...
@IceEyedBlackWolf That woman was tough! The epitome of the germanic stereotype of a hard-headed woman who stubbornly fights to the End...Can you imagine being pregnant most of your life? I wouldn't mind being pregnant or having that many children, as long as I could wiggle my way out of labor and delivery...lol.
Wow. I stumbled across your channel purely by accident. I just had to subscribe immediately after perusing it because it's so difficult to find good historical videos (which I immensely enjoy!) and yet you have so many! Thank you! I look forward to watching your videos and any future ones you upload.
The Jacobin's were insane , Sentencing Marie Antoinette to death only served to provoke the wrath of the Hapsburg's, Killing Louis resulted in stirring France neighbors to war against her.
I don't agree with the way she died and what not. She became a queen was she was still a child. She didn't know any better. She was still learning. And France was in MAJOR debt because of Louis grandfather. And yet THEY got criticized for it. Ridiculous. Well, Marie Antoinette, I know you're not around anymore... But you're still my idol<333
They did it all the time. It's what they did. But at the same time your life expectancy was about thirty to forty - If that. So you needed to be married off and have kids by the time you were about fifteen because when you turned twenty five or so, You were middle aged.
Why criticize her ? Today in 2011 there are young wealthy heiresses who behave WORSE. Marie was innocent; she was falsely accused and made into a scapegoat for social and economic problems that had nothing to do with her. She was an easy target because she was not even French; she was Austrian. A lot of French people (not every single last one mind you) truly dislike anyone who is not French. Marie was just a victim of her time period. It was the end of the monarchy and noble classes.
but the young wealthy heiress of today you mentioned only waste their family's fortunes that are rightfully theirs, while Marie wastes the fortune of an entire state
@AmericanEvita That's not true, at the begining she was very loved but she did not care a button about the people, she never leaved versailles her whole life ! except for partying in paris a few time. She never asked about her subject's life. And she spend a fortune in jewlery and clothes when the government was broke. Read the book of S. Zweig "marie antoinette" it is excellent because it explain very well how bad a queen she was but it explain also a lot about the woman. Sorry fr my english.
@42Connect You read that too!? I own it and I love it. She failed to really do her job, which was basic in either attending the Court/courtiers who would have saved her life, or reaching out to teh people who would have ended up not revolting. She never even bothered to curb her spending or stopped throwing positions and pensions at her toadies.
@AmericanEvita she Have live her life in a very very good way, she is very lucky to be able to do those things . Buy those nice clothes, eat those delicious food wasting money in gambling. Unlike those poor people. So i think even if she died it is ok because she have live her life to the fullest!
It's just that Marie Antoinette only wants to be happy, always laughing with her friends etc. She never think about those poor people who almost have nothing to eat.
Lois the XVl was so uncaring about his reign that he financed the American Revolution without much thought. This broke the bank for France - but it did work out well for we Americans.
Marie Antoinette was doomed when Louis XVI became the king of France. He was the most ineffective sadsack to ever lead France (and we're talking about France, so that's saying a lot) and she took the blame because she was an Austrian.
This is the story of what happens to a kingdom when you let a Paris Hilton-type girl and a Jason Davis, the billionaire ski resort heir, be absolute rulers.
A socialite teenage Queen and a worthless fat, ugly loaf.
@diddims She didn't care much for learning, if it didn't have to do with dancing and doing all this other pretty girly stuff, she wasn't in to it. I could only imagine having her as a classmate. No attention span whatsoever.
She was a true Queen; she died with dignity - her last words were an apology to her executioner for stepping on his foot on the scaffold. The French would not allow her to mourn for Louis, but in a bizarre twist of fait, she died in white - the traditional colour of mourning for french queens; MA would have known that, but the ignorant fools who sentenced her to death did not, so in way she had the last laugh. I wonder what her thoughts were as she made her way to the quillotine...?
im doing a project in history about her to because my teacher ms.hoopa said to do a report on one off the most contreversal figures in European history
Antonia Fraser's book about Marie Antoinette is the most wonderful biography which really shows the courageous character of this poor girl thrust into such a world and so maligned.
@ChristinaCroft I've read many biography about Marie Antoinette and I'm sorry to tell you that Antonia Fraser's is the worst of all. Her vision of Louis XVI is really atrocious. I would rather recommand an historian called Simone Bertière, specialist of France's XVIIth and XVIIIth century, if translated in english (called "Marie Antoinette l'insoumise" -means "the rebel"-). I'm studying history and I assure you, Fraser is just wrong.
@ChibiNaju Thank you for the recommendation. What is it you dislike about the A.F. book? I thought she gave a sympathetic portrayal of both Louis & MA.
she was just so raised in such luxury that she thought everyone else did too. she didn't mean to do anything wrong, she just didn't realised it until the very sudden end. she could be a kind, caring person, it was just that, she knew nothing! nothing at all...
I agree. She didn't intend to be insensitive towards the poor. She just wasn't aware of what poverty is and how people suffer because of it. The way she was treated was very unfair.
I agree. She didn't intend to be insensitive towards the poor. She just wasn't aware of what poverty is and how people suffer because of it. The way she was treated was very unfair.
True, she wasn't aware of how awfull the french people lived, but isn't that the thing that's so terrible? A little interest in the people you are queen of isn't too much to ask is it? But no, she was too busy gambling and partying.. People need a leader, not a showpiece..
austria never had a formidable army, the Habsburgs always paid others to fight their wars, One example .., Wallenstein who commanded an army of 400 thousand. Paid for by the austrian emperor, Napoleon crushed Habsburg. And all the voices in the vid of how lovely Antoinette was.., what a joke, They all deserved what Robbespierre dished out to them, Beheading, Royalty got what it deserved
I did a paper on my senior thesis on tragic queens, Anne Boelyn, Mary of Scots and Marie Antoinette and I passed my seminar...only cause I wrote it as a soap opera.
ive seen the movie already but i loved it so much that im willing to watchi this video and the other 11 videos ^_^ i luv french history (im only 16 btw)

SuperGreatSphinx 4 months ago
In April 1770, on the day of her marriage to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, she subsequently became Dauphine of France. Marie Antoinette assumed the title of Queen of France and of Navarre when her husband, Louis XVI of France, ascended the throne upon the death of Louis XV in May 1774. After seven years of marriage, she gave birth to a daughter, Marie-Thérèse Charlotte, the first of four children.
SuperGreatSphinx 4 months ago

SuperGreatSphinx 4 months ago

TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh You don't know what I need! You whine about the fact that we have the death penalty and yet your country's prisons are notoriously horrible. And no, actually, the whole world knows nothing about my country, you pretentious fool. Other wise you wouldn't pin wiping out Native Americans on us, not after what your countries have done to them, and certainly not after the brutality practiced in French Revolution.
TakumProti 5 months ago
And don't you dare talk to ME about what my country is built on. I will tell YOU what my country is built on - It's built on the ideals of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, no differently than the new French Republic was built on Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. However, cruel attitudes that had been engrained upon much of the American people severely impeded the true expression of this. It's been a long time coming, but we have gotten there, or at least most of the way.
TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh YOU HYPOCRITE!! Your country brought African slaves to the new world!! As a person of color myself, I and many other people of African decent in the Americas are here because an Englishman, a Spaniard, a Dutchman, a Portuguese and a FRENCHMAN had little regard for the dignity of their fellow human beings. NO Spaniard, NO Englishman, NO Portuguese, NO Dutchman, and NO FRENCHMAN has ANY right to condemn my country for slavery when you scum are the reason that we're here!!
TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh And I never said that Marie and Louie were innoncent, fool, I just said that they were scapegoats. Yes, they did make matters worse with Marie's irresponsible spending and Louis' well-intentioned intervention that only made matters worse. But Louis was no despot, he was just the wrong guy at the wheel, but the Revolutionaries treated him as a despot. Much of what was going on Louis and Marie didn't know or understand. I never said that they weren't against the Revolution either.
TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh Don't YOU ever dare tell me what to do!! Your Revolution boiled out of control and degenerated into savagery, ours didn't! You're so self righteous, you won't shut up about what my country has done and yet yours took over much of the known world. You dare to accuse my country of wiping out native americans and yet yours were among the countries responsible for their decimation, and thus I'M the one with no understanding of the world?!
TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh And Native Americans!? My god, man! Your country had colonies here in the Americas. You, the Spanish, the Dutch, the Portuguese and the English came here, with African slaves and took the land from the natives, spreading diseases that wiped out most of them. And despite your claims, Native Americans are still here!! There still 2.5 million in the US and there's even more elsewhere.
TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh Um, what? Dude, your comment requires a tad more clarification. Do you honestly think that I was referring to Marie Antoinette? Scapgoating her and Louis was the least of the violent extremism that you practiced. Many French nobles guilty only of being nobles met their end at the guillotine. Hell, you sent many of your own countrymen to their deaths over the most minor of offenses during you Revolution.
TakumProti 5 months ago
@MilkkShaikhh Yes we did, but at least we didn't brutalize anyone whom we thought was against our Revolution while you French tore countless innocents to shreds in yours.

Skyfox009 8 months ago 30
@Skyfox009 yeah, Marie Antoinette seems like a good woman, a kind hearted wife, and a loving mother...its just that her husband is a sheltered fat bum that doesnt know a damn thing
pcbb01 5 months ago
@pcbb01 why does everybody keep being so mean about her husband? he did not actually do anything wrong except believe things he was brought up to believe. and actually by the time they died they truly loved each other maybe not in a romantic way, but if you think shes great well how do you think shed feel if people were blaming her husband for everything that went wrong?
ihatechannelfour 3 months ago 2
@Skyfox009 aggreeing with you until the "her husband was a complete loser" bit, louis xvi was actually not a loser and for all he was made out to be he was a very good man,and it wasnt that he was "unable to perform in the bedroom" he just didnt know how, sort of.
ihatechannelfour 3 months ago
@ihatechannelfour I exaggerated by calling him a "complete loser". I think one of the reasons Louis could not do his job which was to provide a male heir to the throne was because he was raised to hate everything Austrian since France and Austria were bitter enemies when he was a child. Once the alliance was formed he was all of a sudden supposed to marry what he hated his whole life. Whatever his issues with her were, I think she was blamed for all there marriage problems.
Skyfox009 3 months ago
@Skyfox009 yeah, cos i read that his parents told him she was an austrian spy, also that movie by sofia coppola was not very good for his reputation cos it portrayed him as a complete loser, and then poeple like my sister who dont know any history other than in historican movies believe everything, ive been obbsessed with marie antoinette for nearly two years, but only recently have i learnt anything about louis, and i think he was actually a better person than he was made out to be.
ihatechannelfour 3 months ago
@Skyfox009 Louis XVI loved Marie Antoinette very much. He was unable to consummate the marriage for a while but eventually did his duty and conceived children with his wife. He was not fit to be king and his real passion was to be a locksmith. The day the Bastille was stormed (the official start of the revolution) the entry in his diary was: Rien (nothing). When he was told of the uprising, he called it a revolt. His emissary disagreed: No, sire. It's a revolution.

I'm seriously confused. I'm really curious about the life of Marie Antoinette. Were the accusations against her true or not? And did she really say "Let them eat cake"? I think I read somewhere that it really was her sister-in-law who said that. And it did not mean anything offensive...
ixcamexfromxhell 9 months ago 2
@ixcamexfromxhell

Hattaru 9 months ago
@Hattaru She is not a good queen and she is not bad one she is stuck with this there was no problem like this in Austria she is coming to a country where she has no idea what is going remember the French monarchy has also almost gone bankrupt when she arrives there are bad things Louis XVI did but mostly these problems where caused by kings before him they just became the monarchs at the wrong place at the wrong time.
1Historygenius 9 months ago
@1Historygenius Indeed, you are right simply put at the wrong place at the wrong time, but I mean she did have a chance to not go bankrupt because well.. I think people would have told her how much money she had spend! but I guess wishful thinking, I am pretty sure she was not at all a bad person, but hear is my thing, what was she conficted of? and why did she die? what wrong did she do, because not paying attention to her people!.
Hattaru 9 months ago
@Hattaru The King is in charge of taking care of the people not the queen in truth the queen can run the nation once her husband dies or a son takes the throne the main job of the queen is acutally to produce a male aire to the throne. She may have done some nice things a queen is kind of like a wife to a president they have certain responsibilities I am not sure but it is possible Marie may have had charities she gave money to but remember all that money is from another country.

@ChristinaCroft I've read many biography about Marie Antoinette and I'm sorry to tell you that Antonia Fraser's is the worst of all. Her vision of Louis XVI is really atrocious. austria never had a formidable army, the Habsburgs always paid others to fight their wars, One example .., Wallenstein who commanded an army of 400 thousand. Paid for by the austrian emperor, Napoleon crushed Habsburg. And all the voices in the vid of how lovely Antoinette was.., what a joke, They all deserved what Robbespierre dished out to them, Beheading, Royalty got what it deserved
