Basically from what I can gather, it's about how even people that you think are gross or ugly have a story. They have lives just like you and when you put them down, it has big effects -- you should treat people as if you were in their shoes. They kill the beast and then show its past, and how he had a wife and kids, and it makes you feel bad for the beast, which is what they want you to feel every time you do something. Think about the consequences.

no no no. first of all i'm not atheist, or 13. and i would consider myself open-minded. it's not that they're catholic or whatever but it's that the meaning of the song is meant to be taken religiously when i was thinking of it in a completely different way. it just bothered me that my interpretation of it was probably wrong. and in that comment i was being a little over dramatic, i still listen to this song pretty much every day.
