Good on you americans! The EU version is more or less stellar from 2004 an on, now if we europeans can get Ford SYNC as a trade I'd be most interested in buying another one..
As long as it's the UK's version of the ST we get then I'm buying if not then I'm done with Ford. First they killed the Escort GT and replaced it with the ZX2 coupe, a terrible car with no performance or room for anyone in back. After that they killed off the SVT Focus and left us with nothing fun to drive. While the UK enjoyed the Cosworth Escort, the Focus RS and Focus ST. FORD give Americans a Focus that will stomp on Civics, run with Subarus, scare EVO's and make Scion's stay at home.
Honda and Toyota have started to seriously decontent their cars. My parent's 2003 Highlander has hard plastic on the dash - for a $50,000 + vehicle that is simply inexcusable.
In the UK, Ford cars have very good reputations. There are many Mark I Foci used as taxis (with the great TDCI diesel -bring it to North America!). There are many more Vauxhalls and Fords in the UK compared with Japanese cars.
About the only Japanese cars I ever saw were used as taxis - Toyota Avensis and Nissan Primera.
This guy is the editor of Car and Driver magazine, and he speaks the truth....this Ford Focus is much more fun to drive than what Honda and Toyota have to offer....Bravo, Ford! Thanks for bring the REAL Ford Focus to the States!
@colderbeer Good luck with it mate, over in the UK we have had the Focus for a long time and it is a fantastic car, better than anything else in its class.
Both are pleasing to the eye 3rd time focus owner and will purchase the hatch in 2011 i test drove the corolla and civic both well made .But partial to ford we will have to see..my 08 focus and 07 focus have had very few problems and ford cust .service is great they always treat me right and never a problem with warranty issues like saturn treated me like i was a number it was terrible dealing with them ford guy at heart and this is a sweet looking ride oh sync is excellent as well ....
Quality on the domestics are ranked just as high as the Japs.
Don't believe consumer reports...the import buyers are the only ones who subscribe too it and are too embarassed to mention when their nip cars have problems.
I can't figure out why Americans haven't embraced hatchbacks, or wagons. like Euros?? In my opinion, the hatchback looks way better, and it's far more practical with loading items in your car. I'm not complaining though, because there may be less competition in getting one here.
Not sure what the "saloon" is except to have a drink in, but I guess it's subjective. I just know that hatchbacks are really practical, and I think they look great!!

So much for form following function - this vehicle is a collection of random shapes awkwardly jumbled together. Strangely the end result still remains generic.
The front looks like a cheap racing add-on...

@rollstuhlmeister This will be in line with the current European version of the Focus. The current US Focus is smaller than the Euro Focus.

Wow, not only does the basic hatch look amazing, but it gets me excited for what an RS could look like!

It's going to be a great car. I've driven the '05 Focus model, it's a great handling car and gets between 34-39 mpg, with a 5 speed manual.
Since this is the european version, now dubbed "world car," it's going to be very high quality. Hopefully it's price stays competitive.
