transnewton22>>> i noticed the same thing and agree, t/a6.6 decal v 6.6 litre. kinda makes you mad. i really like the car, especially the hardtop. i have always been a fan of the blue t/a 6.6 hardtop no bird. next would be the brown, with or without the bird...hardtop! (no tees due to the body stress when torquing, the famous quarter panel crack)
One nifty note that i didnt know until recently (and im a self-proclaimed T/A-Z28 guru xD) there were actually two different sets of snowflake wheels, the WS6 and non-WS6, non-WS6 were a little thinner and lighter, just kinda a neat fact not that Jeff missed something though, i have respect for Jeff he rarely forgets the little amazing details on all these cars and when he does you still gotta remember he's remembering the tiniest details on countless models of cars, many kudos jeff ;-)
@1MrErling This is Jeff and I would like to thank you for identifying my flaw. So hey, I must say you must be a detective? Really never correct me aloud, or rather in front of everyone. You and everyone know how to get in touch with me. That would have been much better. Hey I just got another one of these in last thurs. I am up for offers. Hey did you notice how I we started that "please dont go" song when I opened the hood. ((Hey you really need to see how many do-nuts this thing can do?
@Transnewton22 Well, I wouldn't call it a flaw. It sucks because you order the damn decal kit. but they only include the "T/A 6.6" decals for the shaker. so you have to spend another 20 or 30 bucks to get the "6.6 LITRE" if you have the 403. I'm sure it wouldn't cost them much at all to at least give the option of which particular engine you have or just put both in the kit. Crap like this is what helps run restoration costs way over budget! robbery....
@1MrErling FYI, you have the wrong decal on the shaker. The 403 Olds engined cars should read "6.6 Litre" on the shaker. Only Pontiac 400 engined cars got the "T/A 6.6" decal. It's one of those small items that usually gets overlooked.
@Ladco77 i bought an identical car s this 2 years ago even the same color lol (sept mine was a pile of shit when i bought it)....but it never had any body for done to it and it never had the decals touched and and had the T/A 6.6 on it......well it was half ripped off but it still had the outline of it haha.....almost finished restoring that pile now though cant wait till it looks like the one in this vid
the 400 t/a 6.6 stickers on the shaker, are left over high horsepower ponitac 400 code Z motors. they built about 5000 extra motors in 78, and stuffed them away. so when new emissions came out, they pulled the other 5k motors out and said oops! but, those motors all got the Borg Warner Super T-10 four speed, the W-72 package
I just bought one, 301 though with T-Tops, about to restore it. The person I bought it from had it in a Garage since 92, it has not run since, same interior, and color.
One day I will be coming to you guys to pick up a 79 Trans Am like this one. It is something I dream about and cant wait for. This is such a beautiful car, that is the exact color combo I would want. I would love even to work there, would be heaven!
The 403 cars in 1979 had the "6.6 Litre" decals on the shaker, and the Pontiac 400 had the "T/A 6.6"
In 1977 & 78, the base L78 Pontiac 400 also shared the "6.6 Litre" decal. It was only the W72 cars that used the "T/A 6.6" decal. The car in this video is wrong.
How do you tolerate the Eddie Money?

Sorry Jeff, but i belive it isn't a T/A engine (400), but a 403 Oldsmobile engine. The Olds and was only for sale in California at the time.

@1MrErling
Yes, I said Old's 403... we ended up pulling it apart for the buyer, installing a high performance cam and aluminum h.p. heads before shipping ;)

I believe the shaker hoods that say T/A 6.6have the 403 Olds engine and the one's that say 6.6 Liter have the Pontiac 400 engine.
4wheeler14 2 years ago
yes thats right. also the 4 speed only came with a 400 and a 403 was an auto.

@1tinindian The gas filler door is also from a 1981 Trans Am, as the 79 and 80 cars didn't have the bird emblem on them.

@1tinindian Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification.

@1tinindian I wish more "restoration" shops would do some basic research and get this right.

I had the same T/A. I traded it off on my Gold 81 Z28 which I still have to this day. 18000 original miles.

I know someone who has the exact same car. They're the original owners!
