wait, what? You made no sense at all. Your reasoning is flawed. So your saying, that because a cleric in a GAME can heal people in an instant, that you lose all faith in religious persons because they do not have those powers? So would someone who watches Buggs Bunny hate rabbits because they cannot talk? Would someone who plays Monopoly hate the world because they don't actually own several hotels? It's a GAME and those who play it know that!
Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that someone won't mistake for the real thing.[2]
The core of Poe's law is that a parody of something is by nature extreme. That makes it impossible to differentiate from sincere extremism.
A corollary of Poe's law is the reverse phenomenon: sincere fundamentalist beliefs being mistaken for a parody of that belief.
Wow... he made a great point. I'll have to tell Satan that some weirdo on youtube figured out my plan. Cthulhu help us if he fucking figures out that we have a hand in stimpaks from Fallout or med kits in any other game!
Cleric's petition the "God" for power. The realms make it possible, in conjunction with and scaled to the deities sphere of influence or mastery of metaphysical forces, which when existent in the realms/planes, manifests as "reality".
The "Gods" in turn petition to AO(Alpha Omega) to claim mastery over their schools, and war and die similar mortals, though the realm of dead gods is different.
The deities get their power from their followers, and reciprocate for the sake of existence.
You sound pretty ignorant about D&D. To draw an "insidious" line to religion(s), claiming they pray to cast spells that God grants them is pretty weak, seeing as people normally do not pray to God to turn un-dead or cast fireballs. If you understood what you were talking about you would see in this parallel, a Dr. Is a priest of Hippocrates that heal's the sick. Main difference is that(more so) in RL, people pray for divine intervention where as in D&D the Cleric steps in FTW.
This is BS. I am Roman Catholic. I am a Dungeon Master. Dungeons and Dragons is no more dangerous than the people who play it. The people who are "corrupted" by the game are already weak minded and are seeking an "out" from reality. The problem is already a deep rooted physiological problem with the people who play. It is most unfortunately that some mentally unstable people play the game. It has created a very bad stigma. WOE TO ALL WHO WATCH THIS VIDEO FOR D&D IS NOT A BAD GAME!
@MarkPope29 Yup, this is RETARDED, a step backward, upside-down, stupid, and at best a distraction.
I have to try again though, I must have missed something.
This cant be this pointless. Only grandma(Sorry grannie, I know YOU play, I meant figuratively.) would be oblivious enough to consider this source material.
@willquestion Satire? Perish the thought. Pretending to warn people of the dangers of comparing the reality of the world in which people claim to be able to magically cure illness with a magical fantasy world where disease is easily wiped out by a trip to church in an effort to plant that very seed of doubt would be... insidious.
@thisplaceisstupid Dude, it's JUST a fantasy game, like you've said. I played a rogue for about 2 1/2 years but I'm not going out picking locks and stealing stuff. Although I do have some very real "ninja" skills. I am literally able to pickpocket people (I just do it to friends and give the stuff back in 5 minutes to piss them off cause its funny) but that doesnt mean I believe that I am a lv 80 rogue whoes capable of melding into the darkness...
@thisplaceisstupid i think that the seed of doubt was planted from the moment this so called "higher power" didn't do anything, it just grows when you compare it to the average idea of a god and i don't think d&d would a complete would without some element of religion thrown in.

Clerics in D&D are nothing like real priests. Clerics keep their hands off the altar boys.

Truly... Christianity is a terrible thing to make fun of.
It's right out confusing, you are not sure if it is a parody or reality even if someone points it out.

So if you play in a Dark Sun campaign (where there are no priests or deities) is it no longer insidious?
