  • Great Video for the bent press Saxon only stood with 264lbs Victor Delamarre stood with 309lbs not to mention have carry a 35 foot long 900lb railroad tie and walk around with it. He carried 7000lbs worth of people on his back weighing in at 149lbs at 5'4 saxon was heavier and was 5'10. Victors spine was double the width of a normal strong man at 4 inches wide.

  • Apparently there is claims of 400lbs bent press from Arthur. I think his record was 370lbs officially.

  • @MrMontgomeryM

No, he never made claim to that lift. Other people variously saw fit to claim lifts for Arthur Saxon, but his top official bent press was one of the two. I haven't read on Arthur Saxon in a while, so I can't recall which was his highest official lift.

  • Very interesting I was reading about Arthur Saxon bent pressing 336lbs and 448lbs for 2 hands anyhow lift. Where the bent press with one hand and lift another weight with the other and add them together. He totally owned Eugene Sandow who sued him as Eugene Sandow was billed as the strongest man but Arthur beat him and put it on his posters.

  • I love these old time exercises! Where can I find more?

  • @haridarshana subscribe our channel or visit the artofstrength website

  • Nice bent press.

  • @apprenticeofanubis Saxon officially did 370 as the world record in 1905. the 385 was locked out overhead, but he was unable to stand with it.

I am talking about Saxon or whether such a lift is possible. I am saying that barbell in the video doesn't weigh anywhere near 175lbs.

  • There is absolutely no way that barbell weighs even close to 175lbs. I doubt that it weighs half that.

  • @davewhitley Athur Saxon who died in the early 1900s has the world record. not sure if its been broken but He did 385 pounds like this. and about the same size as this guy. maybe a bit shorter but more muscular. not sure if they have any black and white videos of him probably not. Alot of the super human stories you hear in ancient greek and chinese stories and so on some are true. and some are bullshit. people had the ability to be stronger back than that today tho.

  • @ApprenticeOfAnubis Why do you say that they had the ability to get stronger back then? I agree with you based on what I've heard of the old timers but if you know why I'd like to hear it. Was it that the air was more ionized, the food more nutritious, people more grounded (electrically grounded, as in away from harmful EMF waves all day and able to recuperate)?

  • @Rigotto90 there foods werent covered in drugs/pesticides and so on, the air was better, and lifestyles were more physical than today for most modern people. the first modern human bones are twice as dense as ours today.

  • @ApprenticeOfAnubis It's a shame the people at the top can't just let humans live their lives as God wanted us to. Instead we've got to be sick and weak.

  • @davewhitley most athletes today dont eat all organic food, and even organic food cant be trusted. still goes through crates and so on and shipping. long ago people killed and grew there own stuff and the worlds air was alot healthier than today all those factors made people able to be much stronger. now alot of people didnt practice bodybuilding like we do today and so on as far as modern text books tell us. so there was rarely anyone who was a roid giant on Human growth hormone and so on.

  • @davewhitley scientists have doen studys on ancient human bones aswell. and they were twice as dense. not twice as big ofcourse. maybe some rare cases but, twice as dense. way less air pockets and holes in there bones. making them way more capable of strength

  • looks healthy....

  • Just from looking at these type of exercises you can see how this strength would be useful in the real world!

  • Holy.. I'm speechless..

  • i started doing these but i think ill stop because i hurt my shoulder really bad doing these.

  • A great video, a breath of fresh air flowing above the stench of the modern gym/bodybuilding culture. This type of training is the real deal!

  • colorful workout room

  • bench presses r for tards. stupid exercise all for show

  • arthur saxon is the king!!!!

  • Dude you gotta get some physical culture. It shows off the obliques...very hot in back in the day. Plus the Bench press didn't exist back then. It was all about show man ship... We gotta get back to strongman culture!! SO MUCH FUN!!

  • aparently its easier to lift heavy weights with a bent press than the two hand overhead barbell press, but if u mess up, your fucked lol

  • Damn them's some archaic barbells.

  • Gosh, I want to be able to do this. In life I'm beginning to see that often the old ways run true.

  • you can't beat old school!

    FUCK YOU SHARON MANN!!

  • nice job AD! Kill it bruddah!

  • very nice bent press!

  • Cool video. Just curious, what is the point of the barbells with the round weights at the end? Is there a reason you train with them over normal barbells with plates? Thanks

  • That's an old time strongman barbell. That's what they used to look like back in the day. Anthony is all about bringing the old school back. Plate-loaded barbells are the modern versions. You can make one modern-day barbell all different weights by adding or taking plates away. Back in the day, the weight on the barbells wasn't adjustable. However, the barbells that Anthony uses in this video have an opening in them where you can add lead shot, water, or sand. This makes them adjustable.

  • Ah cool, thanks for the info. Is there any advantage to this over plate loaded or just for the sake of nostalgia and something different?

  • I'm not sure. Other than the fact that it just looks cool, I think that if you put water or sand in the barbell that Anthony's using, it makes it much more unstable because the water or sand moves around as you're moving.

  • I think the old school lifts required a hell of a lot of manipulating the weights on the ground before the lift the way he is doing here. The globe weights really help with this aspect whereas plates just dig into the floor. Is anyone making globe weights any more? Would love to get some for my gym opening next year.

  • @fnoph They were adjustable back in the old days, Arthur Saxon used to fill his up so much so that the local strongmen could lift them and think they could challenge him on stage. Once on stage he would fill them up full so that the local strongmen failed to lift them but Arthur could.

  • Shot loaded barbells allowed you to add tiny bits of weight for gradual progression instead of upping the weight 5 lbs at a time.

  • Those drills, bent press and squatting press are awesome. I've been looking for a way to help my snatch recovery, and the Overhead squats are getting pretty old, so awesome vid.. great strength in the bent press.

  • Very well done. Old School Lives!

  • Very instructive and interesting!
