They were good. Just the kid in the backround "they sound loaded" they aren't loaded, everything is loosened so when you hit it it makes a louder noise.
Reminds me a lot of when i was in boot with Triple Threat, and then when I went to FL, and was a part of the FRDT for my time for school. Miss those days it was good times. I was in service during 1997-2001. So was in FL for FRDT during 1998.
I was on a drill team in Orlando during my boot camp training and we had a horrible accident. We were marching around in a continuous circle, spinning tapping etc...on the sequence of throwing the rifle behind us and catching the rifle from the next man a rifle was dropped. A recruit got out of line to pick up his dropped rifle and tried to get back into the marching circle at the same moment a spin was being executed and the bayonet caught him in the face and ripped him from chin to eyebrow.
I loved my time with Performing Units. Because I was Avionics, I got to stick around for quite a while and it sucked having to leave for C-School. It was the best time of my life, and I hadn't even reached the fleet yet!
I was the SDM Student Drill Master) in 2000 in Pensacola. You have to understand that the majority of these sailors are students studying for their rating, and that this is a secondary function. Also, because they are only there for a minimum amount of time, (2 to 3 months for most students besides avionics), that this is extremely well done. It was the best time I have had in my career to date.
wow reminds me of my days of individual exhibition for AJROTC i didnt have anyone else who could spin let alone march in rhythem. this routine must have won you many state and national titles. absolutely near flawless routine!
@emokidz765 I was in the FRDT in '86. The only team we didn't beat was the Presidential Honor Guard...Also squids. Everyone seems to say "we are better" Go to their barracks and look for the trophy case. They are, we were the best non full-time unit in the country. The killer part is they are aviation students...12 hours a day classes, THEN practice. Uniform and personnel inspections EVERY day. I was an AD (jet mech) student, pretty easy compared to some of the avionic students there...
I was a memeber in 81-82, we had done a lot more difficult drills, we had done the Queen Ann Salute by the ripple that was awasome, our recover was even more impresive, we spun the piece hand over fist which looked faster that what they are currently doing here, loved it, great dicipline, great teamwork with shipmates...
Fantastic...Great Job...Brings back memories ..I was a Drill recruit..and we learned that drill..20 yrs ago........Hours of drills/marching..good stuff
Thanks for posting this! I was on the FRDT back in 1984, so it brings back some good memories. The team taught me what honor, courage and commitment are all about and left me with the military bearing that was required to have a 24 year career in the Navy, both as an enlisted man and as an officer. May God continue to bless young sailors through the FRDT!
yea. i remember th flying rifles drill team, They were recruting at my A school at millington, tennesee. They are junior enlisted, sailors... E3 and bellow.
In case you all haven't noticed, this is the Navy Ceremonial Drill team. I'm from Texas and in NROTC and no unit I know of is allowed chevrons on sleeves, bayonets,or that dress uniform except for E-7 and above. And notice the bar on their right shoulder.
@acedelta2123 Sorry, you are incorrect. This is the Flying Rifles Drill Team and it is made up of young, active duty enlisted sailors who are attending "A" school after boot camp and before they go to the fleet. It is also a voluntary drill team... the sailors practice their drill and do their performances on their own time, after their studies are completed. Their uniforms are accurate and completely within Navy regulations for drill team members.
@h46pilot On the uniforms, go easy on them...even some of the instructors at Millington would get all pissed off because we had name tags. They also gave you a hard time for creases in your dungaree shirt, wearing corframs and using shirt stays...I didn't care, we got to travel out of state almost every weekend, and didn't have base duty!
You guys did great. We had Chief "Maddog DarthVader" Walker, all 5 foot 4 inches of his little badass. This brought back some great memories from RTC.
Ooh Rah!!! and btw this Is enlisted drill team not JROTC like Randomacc04 said JROTC are not allowed to have Bayonetts for saftey reasons you cant even attach a Bayonett to the M1s at our school the mounts were taken off
Ooh Rah!!! and btw this Is enlisted drill team not JROTC Randomacc04 said JROTC are not allowed to have Bayonetts for saftey reasons our you cant even attach a Bayonett to the M1s at our school the mounts were taken off
YES, STUPID!! All of the NJROTC units as well as the Young Marine and Sea Cadet units in TEXAS have them just like the honor guard...fully functional (no bolts) and sharpened bayonets! Took my cadets for a show just YESTERDAY!!!
Perhaps, but I'll bet whatever is in my wallet that you aren't allowed to use them in competition. And somehow I doubt that NETC would waste their money sending sharpened bayonets to high school units, not to mention only in Texas and not anywhere else.
[Most] JROTC competitions forbid bayonets. But there is no law forbidding high school students from drilling on their own with a bayonet. RRydnew, JROTC units are not issued fully functional rifles. Not in Texas. Not anywhere. Nor are they issued bayonets. Now, i can't speak for Young Marines or Sea Cadets.
Uhm, I think this IS flying rifle drill team. US Navy wears Dress Blues for their uniform, and high schools wear working winter blues. Actually... on second thought, this could be US Navy Honor Guard as well.
OUTSTANDING Armed drill. Would like to know the team that did this as it has alot of signature moves that the US Navy Flying Rifles coined back in the days. I know the Rifles were founded in 1953 by the students of NATTC Millington , TN. feedback greatly accepted.
I beleive it was september. I was there for the AVA1 couse for nine months. I don't remember everone's name. Montez was my dad, Castillo my son. We changed DI's and I'm sad to say I don't remember either of their names.
@ShadyHWH I was in the Flying Rifles Drill team in 71 and 72. I was in Millington for Aviation Fundamental school, Jet Engine "A" School and Basic Helicopter School. Since I was there a while longer than most ...I was fortunate enough to be on the Bomb Squad.... the group of 4 that did the drill with the director in the center. They were the greatest 8 months of my enlistment!
The point of drill is to demonstrate skill in handling those weapons. While those bayonets probably are not sharpened, the could still easily stab someone if the rifle is handled incorrectly. Drill also demnonstrates discipline. Take for example the chief (the guy in the suit with the sword) while the other men were passing the rifles around him. He didn;t even flinch.
The bayonets are plenty sharp. More than one person got injured during practice and performances during the year I was on the squad. Most of the members are with the team less than a year. They are students going to school 8 hours a day and practicing at night. With the constant rotating of personnel there was always over/under rotation of the rifles and people getting stuck.
Maybe it's the fact that you can't spell the word "something". I used to be in Cadets here in New Zealand but found it to be pointless. And yes, we did do things like what is shown in this video above.
A US troop is never carless with his weapon. These drills demonstrate he has control of his weapon. Bye the bye, the bayonetes are sharp. I should know. =Stefan=
hmmm...I've seen a lot of that in the Navy's honor guard performance.... Maybe the rest comes from the other service's honor guards...(not sure). Either way, great show!
They were good. Just the kid in the backround "they sound loaded" they aren't loaded, everything is loosened so when you hit it it makes a louder noise.
