Akira does one thing for silent hill as far as I'm concerned and that make jaw dropping soundtracks. Best in the biz in my opinion, rivaled only by Skyrim's soundtrack (which surprised the fuck out of me)

People saying that Silent Hill games after 4 are canon because it's under Konami's banner is like saying that games in the Castlevania series that have been stated as non-canon (Castlevania Adventure, anyone?) are, in fact, canon. That would be a mass contradiction and would generally cause much confusion. It would be like saying that "Prinny", a game I mentioned on a post for your Shattered Memories portion, is canon. That's bs, and anyone who says otherwise is deluding themselves.

In gaming media here in Europe I have never seen such a strong emphasis on Yamaoka as you portray in this analysis. For me he's been the composer and sound designer and nothing else, and I have not seen in the media (here) anyone saying he has had any important creative role other than that.
It must be differences between the US and EUR media in this matter. I rarely follow US gaming media, especially after the Gamespot fiasco.

His music in the first few games changed the way I experienced them, and made them all the more emotional. The games are almost nothing without the music and sound they had. You weren't paying attention. They said themselves that Akira Yamaoka is "talented in his songwriting” and if you look at the annotation at 5:10, it says, "We are, indeed, huge fans of Yamaoka’s work, and he seems like a nice guy too!"
Great videos. I had played through Silent Hill 1 through 3 and only those based on the absolutely definitive opinions surrounding the series, and boy am I glad I listened.
If you can't even get the main story right, then why try to keep "expanding" on your false understanding of it. The one thing they *should* have copied from Silent Hill 2 is the fact that it didn't directly relate to the overarching story (a story that's already been concluded before the new developers took over).
When you said you'd reshoot the 3 Star Wars movies and then say it's a parallel universe, it kind of reminded me of what the 3 new Star Wars movies did... they took a magical experience and put it into a scientifically proven, galactic senatical, jar jar binical parallel universe :D
I think SH games should continue to be made, they scare me (although I'm a scaredycat), but in the back of my head, I realise the japanese ones will always be better.

What they did with the silent hill series is exactly what Holywood does with any movies that was a success...Make a million sequels that end up watering down the original and remaking the original film and changing things about the original film that made sense! It annoys me to no end that they do this (and also feel the need to remake amazing Asian horror films that have subjects just don't work in the western part of the world due to different cultures, ways of life and beliefs).
1st off - that akira voiceover sounded horrible! dnw
secondly! excellent series - I learned a LOT! Even if team silent won't be regrouped for future "silent" projects, i think this series is a necessary watch for ANY that attempt to expand on the series, not only to gain insight on what went wrong past 4, but to understand the amount of research/homework must be done in order to fully understand what's going on - ie you can't read an "official guide", and call yourself ready to make the next SH.
these analysis videos have been AWESOME, guys. I haven't laughed and agreed SO much in my whole life. I haven't played Origins and Homecoming (I did play Shazam and though I liked it, I had to revise my beliefs thanks to your analysis) but now that I look at it, I have to agree: that's just a butchery, nothing to do with what Silent Hill really means. And I AM someone who looks into thousands of details in series like this one.

Sucks that Americans have to ruin some things though. The U.S.'s look on horror is just dumb. Just blood and sex, no twisted things at all... I did like the cliche aspect of Homecoming though, but not for a long term Silent Hill aspect, just for the one game and that's it. (Everybody says: SHUT UP YOU IDIOT, NOBODY CARES ABOUT HOMECOMING!)
I can rest at night knowing that the genuine silent hill team ended the series with the evil god of the town being destroyed, and walter sullivan's plans of summoning the evil god as a backup plan being foiled.
I'm just extremely sad that the Silent Hill series had to turn out this way, Silent Hill 3 is one my favorite games of all time and when I finished Silent Hill 4 way back in 2004 I thought the game was flawed, but it made me excited to see what the future would bring, when I think of what the real Team Silent could have done with today's hardware and how Silent Hill could have continued to evolve, well it's enough to make me literally want to cry

I greatly miss the old Silent Hill experience, in the fact that I was too scared to play it in the dark, or even alone. (though SH 2 and 4 will always remain favorites. Sorry guys! I saw in a forum more specifically Silent Hill Heaven in the SH8 section under what you want to see in the new game, someone said ''Who gives a shit about Team Silent?'' It then makes me think that if this is your mentality you are in know way a fan! And these videos have perfectly captured what the new games are doing wrong, and thus some of the fans.
I agree with all what you say. Silent Hill it's sooooo good that when we finished playing one, we liked it so much we want another. Much like a vice in some way. Hope Team Silent back together for another of his great works.
why cant you leave good things alone but still keep with a silent hill story that has its own ideas. @lostdogs89 I liked Alan Wake,personally. But Alan Wake is part of what's wrong with the genre these days. Look at Resident Evil 5, Alan Wake, etc. RE4 was a great horror game, but then you get RE5 that is a complete mess. CO-OP ruined the immersion, and it was a Michael Bay flashfest with no regard to horror at all. Alana Wake was too linear and action packed to call it a true Survival horror. game.
I LOVE YOU GUYS! This was probably the most awesome Silent Hill experience next to playing first three games (of course!). I also enjoyed The Room but probably cause I never really considered it a true Silent Hill game.

akira also did the sound design, not just music... but i understand what your saying. AND also, just because he was a producer doesn't mean he necessarily had the power to fix the script or the have strong influence over the development teams. (with team silent) He was one of the voices that created the perfect harmony, but of course it requires more than one voice, so of course he can't do it on his own, nor could anyone in his position. GREAT JOB WITH THIS!!!! AWESOME!!!! LIKE REALLY!!!!!
Congrats on finally completing this project. I see a lot of work was put into the video production and the opening segment was pretty cool. As for it being a "documentary" I would say that calling it such is a bit inaccurate and would say this is an extensive fan review of the Silent Hill series. There is a lot of opinion and theory presented in these video which is fine but it's not what I personally expected to see when I first heard about this "documentary" years ago.

Very nice, you guys! The whole documentary was indepth, entertaining, and confirmed a lot. I was glad to know that my understanding of the games was correct, and the only main thing I had wrong was the two dimension idea, influenced way too much by the "copies." I shouldn't listen more closely to Harry... :] This project was well worth the wait.

Of COURSE they would love to see a new, genuine silent hill game from a developer, (even if they are American based), but even I, when reading the news from that particular issue of Nintendo power, was reluctant to look at the game in a positive light. Simply reading that they were changing literally EVERYTHING about the game and calling it a "re-imagining" warrants that. No need to be objective about the game. Nobody cares about your "imagination" in regard to SH.
Thank you for that. People love to say that we're biased against any American-made Silent Hill game, but that isn't true. The only times we said anything like that, we were referring to other fans and quoting Akira Yamaoka.

Watching your releases everyday for the past week has been the highlight of my day (especially considering it was during mid-terms for me). Being a university student it is very entertaining to see a subject that I enjoy taken so seriously and professionally. (With citing sources!) First, let me applaude you for making such a great analysis and video-series. Clearly much love and hard work went into it. I especially found the misconceptions about SH that fuel the newer games incredibly funny. I always found SH to be a pretty straightforeward story told in a great way, but it seems some people just have to overanalyse everything.:P
Btw, what do you think about SilentPyramid's plot analysis? I've never read President Evil's analysis, but I have read SP's.
It is so sad how they messed up the game by giving it to people who had no idea about the actual game, HECK they didn't even play the game. Cause apparently its to hard to just sit down and go through the previous games to review what has happend and how things should go, but no the players are to stupid so lets give them the most unoriginal things ever!! The series died after 4 and until they actually make a Silent Hill worthy of its name It will stay dead!
Them music at the end was amazing! I didn't recognize it till a partway in, but it was a wonderful surprise! I thank all of you who produced this for saying specifically that while they shouldn't be considered canon, we can still love the games (I myself only really like SH:SM because of the confusion. It was somewhat amusing to me). Now if only a group just as talented at their research and connected with their community could do the same for Resident Evil...

I love the jingles! It was a very well-made series of videos, technically speaking.
But the content itself... You fall flat.
The "proof" you provide is very flimsy (Lost Memories was mentioned just once or twice?) and constantly repeating one theory you deem correct is not proving anything - it is theorising - the very same thing you also said SH fans should stop doing too much. I don't know if this was your first video, but the "gags" and comedic timing is somewhat abysmal too. Try harder!
I was physically painful for me to play any other silent hill games other then 1-3, i never bought 4 because it just seemed too stupid of a story for me. Very nice summary of all the games.
Simply amazing. I dunno, I didn't completely hate Origins, Homecoming, and Shattered Memories. Origins and Homecoming were kind of off for me, Shattered Memories was a rather exciting experience. But I do agree that the series has taken a wrong turn, a very wrong turn.
The only thing we can hope for is a good developer, and some way to completely destroy the canon of the newer games in 8's story.

I personally don't think SH should just stop. All I think needs to happen is to get a developer that isn't shit. A good SH could be made again, as long as they don't try to attach it to the cult story, but instead just have someone drawn to SH like in SH2 (I'm not saying they should rehash the plot either though).

Hahahahaha. I had to wiggle in my chair till the LAST PART, before allowing myself to comment. As for being biased, no. As for being factual, this is epic. I greatly miss the old Silent Hill experience, in the fact that I was too scared to play it in the dark, or even alone. (though SH 2 and 4 will always remain favorites. Sorry guys! X:) Just, now, the newer ones make me yawn. And no self respecting SH game would call itself one, if it's boring the audience.

I saw in a forum more specifically Silent Hill Heaven in the SH8 section under what you want to see in the new game, someone said ''Who gives a shit about Team Silent?'' It then makes me think that if this is your mentality you are in know way a fan! And these videos have perfectly captured what the new games are doing wrong, and thus some of the fans.

Its like the newer games are combining both when they should just creat new and original ideas with in the Silent Hill world. Like what if Alan Wake were in the Silent Hill world. @lostdogs89 I liked Alan Wake,personally. But Alan Wake is part of what's wrong with the genre these days. Look at Resident Evil 5, Alan Wake, etc. RE4 was a great horror game, but then you get RE5 that is a complete mess. CO-OP ruined the immersion, and it was a Michael Bay flashfest with no regard to horror at all. Alana Wake was too linear and action packed to call it a true Survival horror. game.

AND also, just because he was a producer doesn't mean he necessarily had the power to fix the script or the have strong influence over the development teams. (with team silent) He was one of the voices that created the perfect harmony, but of course it requires more than one voice, so of course he can't do it on his own, nor could anyone in his position. Congrats on finally completing this project. I see a lot of work was put into the video production and the opening segment was pretty cool. As for it being a "documentary" I would say that calling it such is a bit inaccurate and would say this is an extensive fan review of the Silent Hill series. There is a lot of opinion and theory presented in these video which is fine but it's not what I personally expected to see when I first heard about this "documentary" years ago.

Very nice, you guys! The whole documentary was indepth, entertaining, and confirmed a lot. I was glad to know that my understanding of the games was correct, and the only main thing I had wrong was the two dimension idea, influenced way too much by the "copies." I shouldn't listen more closely to Harry... :] This project was well worth the wait.

Of COURSE they would love to see a new, genuine silent hill game from a developer, (even if they are American based), but even I, when reading the news from that particular issue of Nintendo power, was reluctant to look at the game in a positive light. Simply reading that they were changing literally EVERYTHING about the game and calling it a "re-imagining" warrants that. No need to be objective about the game. Nobody cares about your "imagination" in regard to SH.

Thank you for that. People love to say that we're biased against any American-made Silent Hill game, but that isn't true. The only times we said anything like that, we were referring to other fans and quoting Akira Yamaoka.
We would, indeed, LOVE to see another Silent Hill game, regardless of its creator. It just hasn't happened yet.

First, let me applaude you for making such a great analysis and video-series. Clearly much love and hard work went into it. I especially found the misconceptions about SH that fuel the newer games incredibly funny. I always found SH to be a pretty straightforeward story told in a great way, but it seems some people just have to overanalyse everything.:P
Btw, what do you think about SilentPyramid's plot analysis? I've never read President Evil's analysis, but I have read SP's.

It is so sad how they messed up the game by giving it to people who had no idea about the actual game, HECK they didn't even play the game. Cause apparently its to hard to just sit down and go through the previous games to review what has happend and how things should go, but no the players are to stupid so lets give them the most unoriginal things ever!! The series died after 4 and until they actually make a Silent Hill worthy of its name It will stay dead!

Them music at the end was amazing! I didn't recognize it till a partway in, but it was a wonderful surprise! I thank all of you who produced this for saying specifically that while they shouldn't be considered canon, we can still love the games (I myself only really like SH:SM because of the confusion. It was somewhat amusing to me). Now if only a group just as talented at their research and connected with their community could do the same for Resident Evil...

lol, who exactly is it that's tried to argue that shattered memories is canon??? if i remember correctly, even the developers were careful to label it as a "re-imagining" rather than a remake. i think it's pretty clear to anyone that shattered memories isn't supposed to replace the first game or be part of the official storyline. btw, these videos were awesome!

I love the jingles! It was a very well-made series of videos, technically speaking.
But the content itself... You fall flat.
The "proof" you provide is very flimsy (Lost Memories was mentioned just once or twice?) and constantly repeating one theory you deem correct is not proving anything - it is theorising - the very same thing you also said SH fans should stop doing too much. I don't know if this was your first video, but the "gags" and comedic timing is somewhat abysmal too. Try harder!

I was physically painful for me to play any other silent hill games other then 1-3, i never bought 4 because it just seemed too stupid of a story for me. Very nice summary of all the games.

Simply amazing. I dunno, I didn't completely hate Origins, Homecoming, and Shattered Memories. Origins and Homecoming were kind of off for me, Shattered Memories was a rather exciting experience. But I do agree that the series has taken a wrong turn, a very wrong turn.
The only thing we can hope for is a good developer, and some way to completely destroy the canon of the newer games in 8's story.
Looking forward to a full length compiled video of this for my friends who are lazy.

It looked to me like the translator didn't even translate Yamaoka right. It sounded like a lame ass fan dub.

A Good question to ask, would you guys accept a REAL remake of Sh1? Or a film that's actually taking all the ques from Sh1? (Like they did on the 300, and spirit comics)

I personally don't think SH should just stop. All I think needs to happen is to get a developer that isn't shit. A good SH could be made again, as long as they don't try to attach it to the cult story, but instead just have someone drawn to SH like in SH2 (I'm not saying they should rehash the plot either though).
