  • I tried this and it fucking WORKED!

  • Went to my friends house and forgot my sensor... using two lighters worked like a charm! Fucking sweet

  • I was skeptical, but it worked! Thank you so much!

  • Recorded with shoe

  • definetly works, i was thinking i couldnt use my wii, thanks.

  • IM GETTING SOME CANDLES BYE BYE

  • Recorded with a calculator.

  • I can't believe it!! It works!! I didn't orig get the info from this video, I did a google search about sensor bar issues & got the info from a gaming site, came online to do a further search to see if others knew about this and found this video. It does work!!When u have a 9 yr old who desperately wants to play Lego Harry Potter and the sensor bar doesn't work, 2 tea candles on glass plates, for safety, comes in MIGHTY HANDY!! Of course, checking in on them every 5 minutes is the downside!!!

  • sensor bar is safer..

  • Wow, did you film this with a candle as well?

  • Whoa! Amazing! I think I need to know how. Umm... got one question. Is fire an infrared center? I didn't realize that!

  • @Megaman895 Infrared is just a fancy word for heat so anything that emits heat (and that covers literally everything above absolute zero) emits infrared.

  • Is there anything that I could replace the candles with?

  • It is SO HARD to see that I honestly can't tell if another sensor bar is there.

  • nice work.......................

  • hêy_ÀñÿÒnë_wànÑá_chãt_wIth_mE_Î_féël_so_lóÑÉlý_tòÐäÿ¤

  • I would not have believed this if it hadn't worked for me! Why the hell do nintendo call it a sensor bar when it doesn't sense anything?

  • @chriswookie2011 they're stretching the truth, what they're really saying is "a bar that helps the sensors on the remotes work" or "sensors sense the ir light from the bar" (they just skip the "s sense the ir light from the")

  • Well my DOG chewed mine. I used my lamp

  • a vacuum destroyed my sensor bar, i thought i fixed it when i was getting a signal but realized i was pointing it at a light bulb. pretty easy replacement

  • This is amazing..We cut our in the vacuum...Love it

  • Mine got chewed up by my cats too! Fucking animals.. getting a replacement and keeping cats out of my room in the future.

  • @bayinghound666 it got chewed by your cats?! i'm sorry if you find this insulting, but i'm lmao right as i type this! but i now how you feel though, back when i got my wii(it was though that comcast triple play deal from back in '08 in the US. the first time i played on it was dec. 14 2008)my cat chewed up my gamecube controller(after i steemed down i stared lmaoing as i thought about how he chewed it up) he had managed to chew though the wire & gave the joy stick a good cheweing.it got repaired

  • Well what do ya know? Thanks! :)

  • doesn't this just get on yer wick

  • I got a cheap replacement on ebay. Cndles worked till I got it in the mail

  • cat chewed through ours, i was surprised to notice than many people have theirs destroyed by cats also.

  • @mastergsan mine 2. I got a cheap replacement on ebay!

  • @TooLChicK76

yeah im gona order one off amazon later, £4 plus £2 P&P

  • do the two have to be the same kind of candles? D:

  • @EmeraldDynasty what kinda dumb question is thar O_o

as long as they're the same height and emits fire they work

  • @nitropk3rzftw you need one for the wii to work, without one you cant even choose a channel in the wii menu

  • @bikinilover42

The answer is yes ... since youd be using the candles INSTEAD of the sensor bar

  • real and straight

  • my cat chewed my sensor cord, before knocking the wii off the TOP of the TV(for a better WiFi) my usb 16GB was in there and it snapped off, all i wanted to do was play POP forgotten sand> MIRACLE

  • works perfectly.

  • This totally works. Took the Wii on vacation...forgot the sensor bar...used 2 candles and booyah.

  • My cat chewed up the wire on mine. It'll be interesting to try this. :)

  • R u guyz poor just go to a electronic store and ask them if u can buy a wii senser bar and its cheap! poor hobies

  • @ICUPSkillz this is mainly used to put wiis on the computer so you cant jus simply go but a sensor bar

  • surprisingly it works. i just tried it. it didn't work for like 10 sec but i waited and it worked lol

  • interesting

  • Yea, my kids said it didn't work anymore so I tried this too and it worked! Then I sang the San-Ford & Son theme song.

    JG

  • for real this really works..lolol..my baby chi chewed the wire a tiny bit and i was just surfing to see where to order a new sensor bar..came across this and couldnt believe my eyes..not a permanent solution ofcos but it sure beats having to wait for a new sensor bar:D

  • Yeah, earlier today, my cousin was using the vacuum, and my Wii motion bar cord was a bit on the floor, and the next thing I know, the vacuum sucks it up! and then, we turn the vacuum off, and the cord is cut in half, so, my cousin told me about this trick to put 2 candles down, so that they could replace the Wii sensor bar. So, I did not believe him at first, but in the end, IT WORKED! I was so freaking surprised.

  • Weird...that exact same thing happened to me!!

  • SAME THING! my boyfriends mom sucked hers up in the vacuum. but shes willing to just buy a new sensor haha

  • @arod456: anything that gives off a small but powerful light source, spaced in the same spots as on the actual sensor bar.

all the candles are doing are replacing the light emitting sensor bar. the sensor bar doesnt sense anything really, all it does is give off two little lights that the wiimote then tries to find. :)

  • What else could you use instead of candles as a replacement?

  • Would you guys consider this a sufficient replacement for a sensor bar? My official wii sensor bar needs to be replaced, and since I'm a cheap bastard, I'm trying to think of the least expensive solution with the best results. Or is there a third-party product that lasts long with decent results?

  • So... how do you connect the candles to the Wii?

  • im wondering why they didnt make it wireless

  • you could also try two tv remote controls with a button pressed on each side or something...anything infrared works. if you could see it with ur camera but not your eyes its infrared...-D

  • lol what if the candles get blown out while playing XD

  • if that happens hope your not playing a fps and in the middle of the hardest part of a level before the epic checkpoint that always talks th most to get too :P

  • @1ONESTEPAHEAD youre screwed when you play new supermario bros wii end boss of you do pause the game quickly and light it on again

  • my cat chewed through my sensor bar and i didn't believe this until i tryed it i was like O FUCK no way so now i am going to use candles until i get a replacement.

  • mine did too! UGH! i was like why isn't it working and i pulled it out and half the cord was missing. so pissed.

  • It's light.... not heat.

  • well i got a question the led light of my controller just flashes and it turns of again if the sensor bar is broken does that mean the remote also stops workin

  • no, the sensor bar does not affect the remote's ability to connect. did the controller come with the wii, and if not, have you synced it? try syncing the remote again.

  • Sweet!! My wii sensor wire is screwed so looks like I am going to have to go buy a BIG ass bag of candles

  • XD!

  • i did this it was so funny

my brother turned off the wii and is all like the sencor dosnt work and my friends were there to so i was like all u have to do is use two candles and it works all it dose is detect the

  • heat and they said this sarcastically "yea thatll totolly work because i know its just an ultra violet light or mabye thats just what smart people say"i was like whatever when i get it to work u guys arnt going to play rock band with me so i brought out the candles and they where like i bet u one billion dollors it isnt going to work and my mom was all like "BET REAL MONEY " all i had on me was four bucks so hence the bet of four bucks and they kept calling me an idiot so i unpluged the sencor

  • and lit the candles when it worked perfectly i was all like FUCK U FUCK U FUCK U AND U AND FUCK U TWO CONNOR !! haha i got four bucks too :P

  • He Gots Another One Near By, OPEN YOUR EYES!!!

  • ur a fucking idiot i did this and it worked perfectly dumbass i didnt have the censor even pluged it at all the wii motes are suposed to detect the heat source

  • They detect the light and since all the wii sensor bar generates is a small amount of IR light, it is sent to the wii remote which is then sent to the Wii console. Therefore, the wii sensor bar can be easily be replace with and 2 sources of yellow or red light.

  • wow kevin is gay and dumb.

  • OK, but does it rotate?

  • yesh it dose :]

  • i've seen it work with one, i'd imagine it wouldn't rotate too well, internal accelaromoters wouldn't be a factor. with two candles it definitely rotates

  • Cool. I'll remember to do that next time my dad takes my sensor bar while I'm asleep :P

  • thats so cool! im gonna try this aswell.

  • Our dining room light works as a makeshift sensor bar, never understood why.

  • because of the heat :}

  • Dude your life saver :D

  • yeah maybe the trick worked, but how well DOES it work??? couldnt quite tell 8*(

I own a projector and have been giving thought to purchasing a wii until i heard all the mess concerning the cabels and sensors etc

is this the only alternative for us projector owners? did this allow you to have your wii behind you with your setup (projector unit, etc) ?? Thanks!

  • It's not the only alternative. I'm in the same boat and I've been considering making two IR LED emitters, then positioning them to get a good signal.

This would be a much easier solution though.

  • I just tried this because my kitten ate my cord, and this trick really works!

  • My kitten chewed my cable, just tried this and it does work :-)

  • urgh same thing happened to me! Maybe I should try this. I wish there was such a thing like this as a replacement for my Ac adaptor, though..

  • There are thrid party sensor bars that are wireless, and have longer ranges than the standard bars that come in your Wii. That may be better for you.

  • it does not work..

at least not for me =(

  • That's because that's pure motion control, this is really for pointing at the screen, you dumbass

  • oooh you just got serrved pussass

  • OMG! this works?!

  • Im doing this as science fair project for Grade 8 =D

  • LOL anyone see it"

    Grade "8 =D"

    haha

  • lol, neat technical knowabout trick but I think I stick to OEM items instead of a Wii setup from the Dark Ages thank xD

  • but why sensor bar has a plug to wii? even candle is like wireless

  • sensor bars need power theres a wireless sensor, but guess wat? it needs batteries

  • Thank goodness for this info. My baby just cut my cord and I dont want to spend $6 for a knock-off or $15 plus for an original replacement.

  • I just figured something out! I figured out why i didnt need a sensor bar in my uncles DVD player in his car. There must be some sort of lighting!

  • So what happens if you use 4 IF lights? What baout an odd number of IF lights?

  • so just try out 4 candles in a row

..and you'll answer your own question

  • what about two pot ciggs burning at an equal rate about 3 feet apart?

  • Stone Age, better than sensor bars!

  • @ItsThatOneKid the response time of it is much faster instead

  • lol imagine hitting candles and ur house catches on fire haha

  • THIS REALLY WORKS wow i just tryed it it works perfect

  • This is NOT fake. My sensor bar's cord was chewed apart by an animal who won't be allowed into my room anymore, but anyways, I was still able to actually somewhat use my Wii Remote by pointing it at the two windows in my room at high noon when it's nice and bright. Believe it or not, any super-bright light sources can work as a "sensor bar" for the Wii Remote. Obviously I'll be replacing it, but two sunny windows works (poorly), why not candles?

  • hey that happened to me too!!!

  • omg

  • Too all of you who claim this is fake, get off the computer and actually try it, will ya.

  • im gonna go tell my mom to light up some candles....

  • Wow I thought this was a joke at first but I guess if you need to it will work.

  • Ha, so using 2 candles, a bluetooth adapter, a computer and this program thingy, you can get you wiimote to run smoothly on your comp. sweet.

  • and we have to pay $20 for what 2 candles can do!??

  • do you guys in america have to pay for the sensor bar seperatly then? or do you just break it all the time?

  • actually its $10 and it comes with it, just some people want to get more than 1 for 1 to keep at home and the other to take to friends that dont have one

  • oh right, ty

  • actually it is because fire can burn your house down. it can happen by someone throwing the Wiimote at the candles by mistake

  • or any other object for that matter lol

  • 1)I've seen more intelligent conversation on entertainment tonight.

    2) The sensor bar emits infared radiation from two points, which the wii remote detects. It then sends that information to the Wii, which calculates the wiimote's position and orientation relative to the sensor bar's IR lights. It does this using triangulation, which I won't bother to explain because it involves trigonometry, which has more than 10 letters and is therefore too difficult for you to understand.

    3) TROLL

  • replying to AlmostOpenFilms

  • Greatest Youtube Comment EVER.

  • yeah well I actually tried it and it works! only an idiot wouldnt bellieve that the sensor is in the wii remote not the sensor bar. "almostopenfilms" u whould buy a wii. better than any stupid x box 360! its 1/3 the size and stores all the memory on the actual console! go nintendo!

  • um..the sensor IS in the wiimote..but the light that passes it back is the bar..so yeah the wiimote is sensor and it senses th light bouncing back to it using those lights as...a mirror i guess would be a good description?

  • This was a life saver for me. Brand new Christmas present for kids with broken sensor. The candles work perfectly and in the meanwhile we wait too long for nintendo to send a replacement

  • holy shi*!!!!! i didn't believe it, but i tried it and it works.. this is freakin awesome.. i got a new game for christmas and my cat chewed up the sensor bar, i was so pissed, but this is awesome, now i can play wii tonight instead of on payday!

  • Well this is new, I just purchased a Wii for my kids and I broke the Sensor Bar. Now being in a panic I tried to fix the wire with no luck. But while doing so I noticed that every one in a while I would get some response. I found out that the Remotes where reacting to the Christmas lights. So I put a set of colored lights around the TV and low and behold it worked. So if you need to replace your Sensor Bar you can do so with Colored lights.

    Cheers

  • oops i meant a thumbs up...:9 srry lol thats good idea

  • wait, iknow the sensor bar works with infared, thats why remotes work, but are candle flames infared?

  • Flames emit several frequencies of light, among which are both visible and infrared.

  • ok so now i know why my cursor for wii is always shaking when i have the lights on. there to many interferinses

  • try turning down the sensetivity

  • i tried this and heres what i learned:

Candles,Remotes and mostly any light source.

But i went outside and i used the sun as a sensor bar and it worked. so technically, i used a bar about 109 Earths wide and 93,000,00 miles away.

  • XD THAT'S HARDCORE

  • FREAKIN AWESOME!!

  • use 10 candles, it works better

  • i have 5 and the cursor is freaking out

  • lemme guess soon when wii fit comes out we wont need the balence board well use candles....

  • wii fit doesnt use the sensor bar

  • why would you buy wii fit anyway

  • hey if i put 2 psp's on the side of my tv, will it act as sonsor bars ?

  • lol no they emit hardly any (visble to the wiimote) infraredlight

  • how do u use candles as a sencor thingy

  • the sensor bar doesnt tell the wii where to put the cursor the sensor bar just gives off infa red light like the candles that give off both visible and infa red light

  • Thats what I did for my cousin and he Gave me 20$ Quick Cash!

  • Woow it works can you help me!My sensor bar is not working what should I do?

  • use 2 candles .

  • cool this really works i tried it you kinda hafta get close to the tv for it to work.

  • im tryingit myself right now

  • that is scary shit 8-|

  • I wasn't shocked when I first tried it, my sister didn't believe me, but then it worked >___> I read it worked with the sunlight too but I never tried it

  • This works fine. My cat chewed my wires this morning and I reordered from Nintendo but this will work until I get the new sensor. I just don't want to rely on candles in case of an accident but will work well until I get the new sensor.

  • hey some ppl say that light in the sencer bar does it but my bar has no light and its plugged in and everthing?

  • The Wii Remote just senses the infrared part of the spectrum, which is not visible to the human eyes. Since that is all it senses, the Sensor Bar's LEDs only need to put out IR light. Flames, white lights, the Sun, and many other light sources, put out radiation across the entire EM spectrum, meaning they can both be visible and still affect the Wii Remote's positioning.

  • You know your Wii

  • you can only see the light witha camara ;)

  • its infa red light you can only see it through a camera

  • Yeah... and it's blue. lol?

  • no his camerea recives the infra red as blue...

  • I know, I wrote "and it's blue" as in...

    Infra red = blue dots.

You see that period? yeah, would've made sense if you read my comment.

  • u can also use light from lamp

  • This does work. My little brother in-law brought his over to the house and the cat chewed up the wire, so we tried this out in our living room which is dark in the corner where the TV is but the kitchen his a skylight, and even though we had ambient light coming in it worked as if the sensor bar never even broke.

  • no dude its not fake i just did it. it rules.

  • wow the sensor bar not receive anything right? i just tkaes power from the wii

  • otworkd...hve you seen the video when the guy blows the candles out and the controller doesn't show up on screen????

  • All the led lights do is help the wiimote position itself. From there it sends its own signals to the wii.

I've also done this, and find it works better than the bar.

  • bluetooth.

  • actually, it's not fake. if you open up the wii controller and the wii, which someone actually did (search Wii teardown on youtube) then you can see there are bluetooth transmitters in both.

  • it´s not a fake..

  • BLUETOOTH.

  • really if youd looked pretty muck anywhere retard youd see theres like also about 20 programs to use your wiiremote on your computer

and none of them have to have a sensor bar of any kind

no matter if it came with the wii package or not

  • yes and you are a retard for not realising that of the programs used e.g. glovePIE they use the accelerometers in the wiimote, NOT the IR sensing

  • by bluetooth

  • at least do a bit of research before making an idiot of yourself, then repeating it.

The wiimote doesnt send any data to the wii sensor bar; in fact, the wii sensor bar sends "data", ie. its position via the LEDs, to the wiimote, which does some maths and passes its data to the wii console via bluetooth.

  • it does work. do the research yourself.

  • its a pretty ingenious idea. Leave it to a low tech solution making a high tech remote work better.

  • I just tried this... in a FULLY lit room. Works better then the bar... the heat from the fire gives an infared signal and it's more responsive then the bar (guess because the infared is picked up better) I didn't believe it at first, but it works, even in a well lit room!

  • After posting this video, I did limited experiments with using the candles in a lit room, and I had fairly good success in a dimly-lot room. I don't doubt that it can't be possible with lights running. My living room primary has compact fluorescent bulbs, and those seem to interfere. What type of lighting is in your game room?

  • bikeRR> No, not necessarily, candles make for a very clear IR-beacon. If you've ever tried fooling around with an IR-cam, you'll know that this is the case. I'm actually looking for some high-power IR LEDs as we speak :) Gotta build the beacon.

  • THIS IS FAKE! OBVIOUSLY!

  • Wrong.

  • I concur. Pay attention in science class.

  • No actually it's real. The sensor bar just puts out light that the Wiimote detects. The cord going from the bar to the Wii is just for power. I suppose it was neccessary to dim the lights though, which is unfortunate.
