You don't eat green potatoes because they are poisonous, but you do grow your potatoes in plastic containers and chop up styrofoam and add that to your dirt?
Use the aquarium as a book case for all the books you should be reading. Books about getting the toxins out of your food.
@RichHersey Vermiculite not styrofoam. Vermiculite is a 2:1 clay. It is a limited expansion clay with a medium shrink-swell capacity. Vermiculite clays are weathered micas in which the potassium ions between the molecular sheets are replaced by magnesium and iron ions.
Hey good vid, use the glass from the fishtank to make coldframes for winter greens growing, no joke the less airspace and the lower to the ground coldframes will heat up nicely with minimal sun, for extra heat put next to your house. if you dont have extremely cold winters you'll be suprised how often you'll have to open them during the winter,
i use my 55gl fish tanks as a indoor green house.. find what part of your house that faces the south.. and set in the windos if you can.. i grow alot of dill and other mints in mine in winter.. use plexy glass for the top cover .. i use peat moss in filler for the soils.. and water mine with a spray bottles.. 2-3 times a day... this is just a simple ideal what you can do with a free fish tanks.. there is no limit what you can do with a little bit of nothing.. lol..
Fish tank, I see lots of video's of people using them as a Hydroponic type system that could be set up to pump the water up to your plants.... if you go that way.
One Thing I wish you had mentioned was how do you save your potato to become a seed potato for the next season?
up. I have also read about people layering hay or straw into the soil mix. any thoughts?? no clue on the fish tank, sorry. but you seem quite resoursefull!
hi there!! thanks for the info..my grandfather has been a farmer in NE his whole life, and I'm just now..at 29..starting to feel those ties. i just finished planting over 300 veggies, herbs, and eddible flowers in the last4-5 days.(starting them indoors) and have close to 75 "babies" already. I had just read about potatoes in barrels last night. I have had terrible anxiety attacks here lately and find myself up reading at night. I think I will go to walmart, home depot tomorrow and pick some
I should have done something like this. I could have saved a ton a garden space! I have a trash can I used for an old compost bin with drainage holes already in it. I think I'll do this for the fall. Way easier than hilling rows.
@austinsimpleliving I was surprised the first time I tried it and it worked so well. Harvesting is the easiest part. You put a tarp next to the garbage can and tip the can over onto the tarp.
I just watched your vids and was thinking I wish I could do a vid as good as yours. I babble in mine and yours are so informative.
If anyone wants to see a great garden, what austinsimpleliving's vids!
@woodswoman783 Thanks! I guess the important thing is making the best with what you have available. We all strive to achieve the same goal, I suppose. I'll take function over form anyday. From what I've seen so far, you have some videos I'm interested in learning from. BTW, gimme time. I have plenty to babble about.lol
Good video, I have a fish tank I use for my indoor plants, I have had success and failure with it but it seems to work as long as you dont over water.

Neat Idea. Do the garbage cans have to be that deep? maybe cut them down half way???
What about using kids swimming pools? I used the bottom half of a dog carier last year for cukes. Worked Great.

Great video, Thanks. Use the fish tank for growing hydroponic lettuce. It grows in about 4 weeks.

I know you dont want fish but you love your plants. Look at aquaponics, fish only need to be feed and then you grow your fresh vegies

Right - that's convinced me to have a go! Many thanks - we recycle, re-use, compost and mulch - now time for the next step :-)

Take the fish tank apart and use the glass for a solar oven. The glass is tempered so it won't break and end up in your food. Love your videos.
