  • i try to download 7zip and it wont show link when i try to use it 4 minecraft mods

  • 7-ZIP IS GAYYY. WINRAR FTW!!!

  • the trail for win.rar lasts forever. :)

  • Fuck WinRaR...7 ZIP is better and Free.

  • If you do not like the 7-Zip theme, type in 7-Zip Theme Manager on Google, download it and install it.

  • To be honest, I've used both and I've found that they're very comparable. They're essentially 6 of one, half-dozen of the other. WinRar has a prettier interface but functionally they are pretty much the same. The fact that 7-zip is free is a major advantage and it's the reason I use it. It's free and it just works. What more could you ask for?

  • 7zip ROCKS!

  • That is not fair!!. You need to activate the "solid" compression method in WinRAR. Because 7-Zip uses this method by default and you need to activate this option manually in WinRAR.

  • Pirating WinRAR is an ultimate admittance to failure on all levels. Buying it is just personal choice. Using 7-Zip is just personal choice. But pirating WinRAR- it's hilarious and just speaks volumes about some people's inability to look around and find free competitors that work just as good for the average user. A WinRAR is you, alright.

  • so 7 zip is the best than winrar?

  • @PrototypeB1ade

    Of Course

  • It you didn't try to compress both WOW folders at the same time it would have been quicker.

  • 7Zip is the best !!!

  • what is the theme that you have of xp??

  • Could you do the unknowns of the compression world?

    UHARC vs. KGB vs. Nanozip

  • nice ! thank !

  • wich is now faster? winrar or 7-zip

  • Winrar 4,0 is free

  • very informative.

  • Even after winrar expires the 30 day trial, you can still use it. The only drawback is that some features will not be available. Ex: you won't be able to heal corrupted or broken files in winrar unless you buy. I usually always stick to open source applications.

  • End-users may be fighting here, but since LZMA (.7z) is public domain and is proprietary, many large companies have started using LZMA compression. For example, Apple recently started using LZMA embedded inside installer programs for the software they make for Windows (such as iTunes). So far, there aren't very many implementations of RAR compression in large corporate settings. The only real place RAR is widely used is Warez distribution (blech).

  • I meant to say LZMA (.7z) is public domain and RAR is proprietary

  • I accidentally 93MB of .7z files... is this dangerous?

  • lol

  • btw there are other BETTER compression programs. example : pim and FIR

  • i'm compressing sims 3 right now and it is 5652 mb and now it's at 1gb and compressed it's now 700mb. it's a nice program! i love it! xD

  • looks like 7-zip win.which i was using it right now.

  • i have a problem with Rar ...

    i compressed a 5MB file with rar ---> 4.77

    and i comprresed it with 7zip ---> 1.99

    Wird?

  • lol now its the compression wars. stop being fanboys and face the fact winrar is better lol

  • ...Who's a fanboy?

  • I have /.zip for FRee!

  • wtf winrar is free

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeh : p why did he pay : s?

  • its not free, last i checked. you just get the trial, and after 40 days u get a message telling u to buy.. not with 7z

  • It wasn't in 2008. :P

  • its a nag screen but u can ignore it :)

  • but as you can see 7zip compresses better xD

  • kgb can compress a few gigs into a few kbs lol

  • @yeomond Yeah, but KGB is slow for what it does. It shouldn't take hours to ultra compress a small file with PAQ7. Decompression is also slow.

  • No, WinRAR is proprietary. Free in this case does not mean "at no cost" - rather, it means free as in "free speech". The RAR format is proprietary, as is the program used to make it, meaning that the source code is not available, and there are restrictions on how you are allowed to use it. On the other hand, the 7z format is in the Public Domain, and the 7zip file manager is released under the Gnu General Public License, allowing to do (almost) whatever you want with it.

  • I have thils file that says "could not be open" and asked what to do? whether open it web service or select program list" I chose the winRAR archiver and then the file change to a "file" with winrar image on it? how do I change it back? help plss

  • 7Zip is more secure than WinRAR when it comes to encrypting files. 7Zip does AES-256 while WinRAR does AES-128.

7Z tells you which hash-algorithm it uses & tells you how it derive its e-keys, RAR doesn't.

  • Youre vid is nice, but i get f***** dizzy from the way you move your mouse :D

  • yeah, when winrar ask u to register u just click the x and u can use it as it nothing happens

  • The sound is acting a little faster than the video.

  • btw, we still cn get all for free isnt it? keygen/crack is available for winrar. So both free.

  • yeah but that's illegal

  • Except with WinRAR, free and legal are mutually exclusive.

  • Win Rar can open .ace but 7-zip can't.But i still prefer 7-zip.

  • I think there's a plugin for that or something.

  • Really?

  • this video is very good

  • 7zip is faster to open and use as well

  • Ive had my winrar trial for alot longer than 40 days but still hasnt expired?

  • hmmm i just like winrar i dont no y i just use it =/

  • winrar is free man

  • Yes the trial is but otherwise NO

  • look further around and you can get non-trial for free :P

  • lol, you're probably only angry cos you payed for winRAR. Dick

  • Hehehe, funny what happened to the last idiot who said something similiar, and I use 7zip, and so does alot of people you idiot.

  • i do

  • dude...with 7z you can do more than zippin from 9.49 - 8.97 =.=

  • nahh i used winrar and 7-zip

    and IMO Winrar is better

and also its free for me :P :)

  • nice vid and 7zip is better

what kind of theme is this

  • SlanXP.

  • 7zip and open source FTW!

  • 7-zip is the best

  • Yeh it is!!

  • Good video! Still, 2-3 megabytes difference between the two isn't going to get me to switch from WinRAR. Maybe an extra 10-20% compression would :o)

  • retarded test setup.. one of the reasons why winrar is still popular is the speed differences in extracting/compressing.. you can sure get slighty better compression in 7-zip but at the cost of more cpu time.. poor test really

  • I did some testing on zippers myself. 7-zip is better than Winrar, but uses more compression time. Extraction time is about the same.

Of course there are extremely slow programs that offers better compression. For text files, the programs with dictionary are totally superior.

  • Yeh that is what I concluded as well.

  • you didnt use solid archive in winrar. That increases compression rates

  • ikno but it to hard to say lol

  • 7z Won but I prefer WinRAR. Not sure why =P

  • Interesting 7-zip is more then enough for me.Great Video 5 stars.
