  • isn't this role supposed to be written for a baritone?

this singer has a beautiful tenor voice,

  • @pepeelsordo Perhaps you should listen to the difference between the real tenor Alagna and Hampson. Hampson is not the thick-voiced baritone that we usually hear. Unfortunately a lot of those sing this scene without only any nuance.

  • Wasn't the libretto of Don Carlo originally in French?

  • It is tres politics: Flanders is conquered by Spanish, it is necessary to decide on its future, the constraint and the payment of the debts (it is the vision of the former and the inquisitors) or the reconstruction economique (it is the bet of the modernists of which Posa and Don Carlos) BUT, king is low, he will be allowed treate by the inquisitors! VERDI express his opinion has the end of the final act, by bringing in the father of king Philippe 2, Emperor Charles 5, going out of the grave

  • I bought the DVD and I see frequently. For me the better Rodrigo!

  • Tragic as hell! What a time to find the broken reed. This is the best production of this opera ever! !*!

  • Great performance! One of the best Rodrigo's I ever seen!

  • @pudercukurs Not really when you have Ruffo and Piero. I do want to say that Hampson is good, but at most the 4th best Rodrigo.

  • I was watching the DVD of Don Carlos this evening and this aria stopped me and begged repetition. If I were in the audience, and the piece weren't so long, I would have demanded an immediate encore.

  • @kaethre Demand the encore!

  • Hampson and Alagna were so fabulous in this, but the sets and costumes - and those hairdo's - were decidedly weird.

  • Now THAT is a Verdi role that suits him perfectly!

  • good comment! are you french? Is the "diction" good?

  • BANG! Really shocking.

    Amazing, refined lyrical baritone.

    Anjuta, you are a conuisseur.
