It was simply what is known as a "hospital ball" and on the plus side, a savage break like this, football is one of the best supporting for a recovery, think of the average person having the same injury.
Pulis handled the situation much better, this is co-incidence for Wenger, yet he has to find some malice behind it.

One more thing, how can you be so sure that Arsenal wont win the league? Chelsea (who are top of the league) are only 3 points ahead and they still have to play Aston Villa and go to Old Trafford and Anfield which are places they lost last season. Manchester United still have to play at Eastlands (Manchester City) who lets face it, were robbed out of a draw at Old Trafford and showed that they have what it takes to beat united and they have to play Liverpool who beat united earlier in the season

Ridiculous of you all to pass such unworthy statements! Wenger is merely putting a point forward: 3 serious, career threatening injuries in 5 years!! What would you call it? Coincidence? Bad luck? Come on people... let's get real. Other clubs take on Arsenal in an extreme manner always trying to physically outplay them. This uni-dimensional approach has yielded in a talented 19 year old's foot being broken. Malice or not... Ramsey suffers the brunt of the overt physical response of other teams.

i totally agree with you. i am sick and tired of stupid comments like some of the ones below who dont really listen to what Wenger has actually said in this interview. at no point in the interview did Wenger say that the tackle was a deliberate attempt to injure Ramsey. what he basically said was that inferior teams like stoke set out to rough Arsenal up a bit and its true.

Come on give me a break. Tackling is a part of football, and Stoke play like that against every team because that's how they've had success. Its hardly "extreme" to expect to be allowed to challenge for the ball. Arsenal need to grow some balls and Wenger needs to stop being such a whinging French bastard and accept that accidents happen.

Wenger came out and admitted that it was a badly miss timed tackle. I can tell you didnt read the comments on skysports about that because there was alot of Arsenal fans who admitted that Gallas was lucky not to be sent off.

Actually as soon as I (and presumably many other gooners) saw that challenge I said that he should've had a red card.
Also note that whilst Gallas' challenge was clumsy and dangerous, he didn't go in with so much force that it broke two bones in the opposition players leg.
The tackle was much lower, and whilst still being a bad challenge, much more controlled than Shawcross' rediculous out-of-control swipe!

man the old arsenal were never dirty physical yes, but not dirty and never heard of them breaking legs or severely injuring anyone. it was the useless media as usual branding them dirty it is fact that a very high percentage of the media either support man utd or liverpool and it is obvious as fuck and is reflected in their biased columes.

man you can not compare viera to this clown. viera was never a dirty player and did he ever break any other players legs or injure them badly. it was the english media that branded him dirty along with petit because both of these guys where over powering the weaker english players. english football has always prided itself as one of the most physical in europe. and the fact that 2 french players where showing them up didnt go down well so the media showed its bias to foreign players again.

it is very hard to say if it is a bad tackle or not you cannot say 100% that it is an accident and likewise i cannot say that it is a bad tackle. its very hard to tell from all the vids and the stills all look different. but one thing we can agree on is the biased media trying to say shacross is an angel that is total shite. and we know exactly what the media would be saying if a foreign player ever did this do golden boy wayne rooney and especially this being world cup yr

Fair 50 50 tackle, the ball was inbetween the two players, they both went for it as they should, ramsey came of worst, it could have gone the other way, i dont see it even as a yellow card, its just a 50 50 tackle.

LOOK AGAIN. Ramsey's leg is planted on the ground at the moment of impact with Shawcross' leg which is swinging like a baseball bat. Shawcross was committed and couldn't pull out even if he wanted to. And I seriously doubt he wanted to.
Shawcross made a deliberate tackle. He could not POSSIBLY have known whether he would meet the ball or the player as he did so.
Reckless. So he's upset. He should be. Maybe he'll learn how not to break players legs in future.

I feel bad for him but the tackle didn't look like it was meant to hurt anyone; just very bad luck. Wenger's being his typical whiny self not acknowledging this. It's obviously not a conspiracy just a side-effect of playing teams with less combined muscles than Rooney's forearm.
