The test should show, that the Barrier from the Audi is too strong for smaller cars, like the Fiat. And the ADAC said, audi should build a larger Barrier, that the fiat not go to much in the audi.
So that's why rich people live longer and poor people die. So a large, heavy vehicle destroy small car wow who would of thought of that, i guess you can't fight physic. Note to self had more power to the Subaru so I want end like a pancake in small yukon grill.
U cant repeal the laws of physics: light, small cars are unsafe. Which is why I roll in a 4000 pound Lincoln Town Car. All u germans probably make fun of big American cars, but theyre safer than the french and italian shit (fiat, renault, peugeot etc) and cheaper than full size German cars (mercedes s class, bmw 7 series, audi a8 etc.)
@pmfabr if you ever roll your Town Car it's WEAK out dated body on frame will not do a good job of supporting 4000LBs on its roof PLUS side impact crash tests (IIHS) show many if not most new compact cars are safer than your Lincoln when hit by a truck or SUV. Steel formulations have changed over the decades and newer high strength steels equalize the playing field for small cars especially compared to technologically out dated cars like yours.
@pmfabri Which is why I roll in my Crown Vic for the same reason! Talk about built like a TANK, these unibody owners have no idea how much their cars flex and twist all over the place and that's just while going over bumps! lol
I love your comment about how smart a choice it is, I weighed the very same issues before buying mine! Plus against car vs truck, it has the perfect balance, as it can tow thousands of lbs but still get 24 avg mpg and that's not driving like a grandma!! ;-)
@keyofdavid888 You are way off base about modern unibody cars. It has been proven time and time again that most unibody cars are actually more rigid than a body on frame. In fact, when Volvo tested their first unibody vehicle on their frame twisting machine, it actually broke the machine due to the lack of flex.
@keyofdavid888 You are way off base about modern unibody cars. It has been proven time and time again that most unibody cars are actually more rigid than a body on frame. @zep0rkychopz Noone is going to listen to someone who types in all caps and doesn't know how to type "withstand". And Humvees were sold as road cars too. His comment was ignorant and wrong but your rebuttal was almost as bad.
well first both passengers in the car didnt get hurt second the 500 owner needs to buy a new car but the q7 owner will have to fix it with amount of money that coasts a new 500 too! result is equal (=).
Either this shows that its safer to drive a 4X4 or that the roads are actually a more dangerous place now with behemoths like the Q7 / X5 doing the school run on a daily basis. you decide. :s
@Derangedteddy yes in 1:03 cracked hull air cushion, which is unacceptable today.Material should be returned to the study- because it just might be the fault of the material, or some mistake in the design of the serial steering wheel or airbag container, and again repeat the crash test - unfortunately
We don´t want to show that we Germans can destroy every car with our awesome SUV´s!! Is Chevrolet or Ford also German?? What about their Crashtests?? There aren´t any!!
We want to improve our cars to make shure that the people in both of them can survive! Thats why there are CRASHTESTS!!!
I think the point about this test was, that the Q7 chassis is constructed relativly inflexible (quite common for SUVs). However, this leads to the result, that other cars are getting much more damaged than they should be. If the Q7 would bei able to absorb more energy as common in other vehicle categories, the crashs would be less risky for the other road users.
Mercedes used a similar construction in the 80s til some people died due to unflexibel chassis (High force effect on occupants).
@xIMyQIx I don't think this is the case here. If you look at how much space is actually consumed by the crash in the Q7 you'd come to the conclusion that the Q7 is a "fair" crash partner. It's not Audis fault, that the fiat's bonnet is relativily small compared to the Q7's.
It was a Test from the "National German Car associatio" and that have been the conclusion from the final report of that test. Furthermore they criticised in general, that SUVs are badly constructed related to their passive safety systems (pedestrian protection, force absorption). The tested Q7 had just minor damages on his internal structure, so the damage caused by the crash looks much heavier than it actually was (only the front axis seems to be damaged, Framework seems ok).
I forgot: One more point was, that the main girder didn't absorb that much energy (as mentioned before) and remained intact. That led to the point, that it just pushed away the engine of the Fiat 500 und would have caused fatal injuries to the driver due to total destruction of the leg area. Just like a massive spear. That should not happen under normal conditions.
Crashes do not only occur within same car classes. This test is not about to crash a small car with a SUV to show off how poor you are to drive a small (Italian) car. The idea is to provide engineers on both sides with facts to improve their cars. Small cars are much stiffer than big SUVs hence destruction on Q7 is much more than actually needed. But only because of this drivers in small cars can survive. However engineers have to test and compare this again and again to improve their products.
the driver of the 500 would be very much dead LOL!! and when u see the air bags go off u see the dummies head twist round thats not safe LOL! apart from thet i love fiat 500's haha xD!!
Guys please relax im from germany and this crashtest was made because to look how safe a mini car against a big suv is we germans dont want to show with this that we can destroy every car =)
fuck you all, saying the fiat wouldnt protect its occupants, me and my girlfriend have survived a head on collision with a heavy van, not a Q7 with all its safety stuff and crumple zones but a ford transit with nout but and engine between either of us. all of us walking away with minor injuries from airbags. this was at around 40-50mph
@martaiiva What are you saying? surely you still used in Serbia audi of 1980 ....Audi is among the safest cars in europe .(a4,a5,a7,a3 TT r8 q7 q5 )..fiat is only a car of shit ...
@akboss9000 exactly, that's what I'm telling 4x4 owners. But hey, no problem, in a few years we'll all be driving 5000kg two-seater 4x4 SUV Coupé crossover monovolume hatchback hybrids. Let's see the Q7 hit a tree at the same speed ...
@VUO4E As a good driver, my concern on the road is less about me making a mistake than some asshole making one and running into me when I have zero time to react.
I despise SUV's but it's hard to argue against the safety factor unless you want to start throwing in qualifications (i.e., they roll over more). I wish there were ways to limit them, but in a quasi-free market, I'm not quite sure how to do that.
@anghelion1983 the smart would be OK, see here "/watch?v=8dorFxMsfjU&feature=related" You can get out the passengers easily because the door isnt damaged...i dont think the smart would be emberassing, but even more making us proud of our good technology and enginering.
@StylexStyler I crashed a smart car at 60mph into a solid granit wall, car bounced off the wall rolled a few times but was perfect shape, doors opened, i got out without a scratch! Smart car is a good safe car.
