Michael said himself that he performed because he wanted to, Joe couldn't make him. He may have wanted to play but he loved performing more, he could've stopped anytime he wanted to. All Michael did even when he complained about not having a childhood was praise his father for what he said was teaching him how to cultivate his talent.

Joseph gets 2 bad of a rap! its not fair 2 sympathize with Michael or his brothers and not listen to Joe's story growin up. Yes he was hard on his boys but he kept them off the street n focused on something that would give them prosperous lives til this day. MJ realized this,listen 2 the speech he gave n Oxford.Tito even recalled when he called himself joining a gang,Joe beat his ass n told that gang to stay away from his son. Joe knew the streets n he didnt want that 4 his boys.

@Ahenobarbi Joe growing up has nothing to do with how he abused and took advantage of his own children for fame and money. He wasn't thinking of them, only himself. What kind of lives did he give them? They weren't allowed to have lives, only careers that would prop up his own. Many fathers have managed to keep their kids off the street without forcing them to perform.
