That is a-dor-a-BLE! I have wanted either a capybara or a ferret for as long as I can remember, but, "no", the parents-say- NO! :( ;( Whtaveer, carl u r luckii! bye!
do they smell bad like guinea pigs, or what? do you wash him with shampoo? is the hair slick like a pig's? so they have a lot of fat on the back half to where he's kind of soft, or is it a sturdy or bony animal?
@krononomikon Caplin does not have much of a smell, not like a dog or cat, probably because he goes swimming or takes a soak in the tub every day. That and he does not have an underfur to trap odors. We do not use any kind of soap or shampoo on him. His back is bony and solid. He is a very sturdy animal.
@DarkJoker7 Life expectancy for a captive capybara is about 12-14 years although Caplin's grandfather lived to be 18 so we have hopes for a very long life for him.
@caplincapybara Their meet is very tender. so if you ever decide it's time to kill it, stuff it's mouth with an apple and roast it over fire, you'll have yourself a nice meal.
@mococaboy17 Please read the FACute on Caplin's blog for information about getting and keeping a pet capybara. I can't type the url here because YouTube does not allow that. You can find it on the channel main page.
wow! sooooo cute! i really wish i could have a capybara but mum and dad don't wont one, i can't convince them that they are great pets! i have watched all of the caplin vidios and showed them all of them!!!!!!! i just love capybaras! the only thing i don't know about is if a capybara would be alright living with an older cat, i also don't know if you can have them in austraila. can you help me??? how can i convince my parents?
@snuckles108 Mostly he eats grass. He also gets hay, guinea pig food, yogurt, popsicles, blueberries. He's 2.5 years old now but he was just a baby in this video.
wow im from south america and i didnt know you could actally keep capybaras as pets... all i know is that the taste AWFUL (yeh ppl eat them over here ¬¬ )
i saw a wild once at my grampa's store once but it ran away before i could even take a picture of him, they are very common here but they are really sneaky
I Would really love to know HOW you got a capy for a pet? t.t i have been asking my parents for permission for one(im 19 now) but the problem of getting one still remains.
The link to a capybara breeder is on my channel home page. But capybaras are a big commitment. They live a long time, the need lots of room and a place to swim, they are very needy animals (lots of attention), and they can be aggressive. So make sure you consider all that before you get one.
That was me in the previous post. The link is on the CaplinCapybara home page. I hate the way google automatically signs you in and out of accounts these days. That is messed up.
What a fascinating pet. Overall, how easy/difficult is it to care for a capy and would you consider them to be good pets(aside from the biting faze as mentioned)?
Caplin is going to be appearing on an Animal Planet show on unusual pets in the spring, that will go into more detail about what capybaras are like as pets. They're not for everyone. They are very demanding, want someone with them all the time. They need a place to swim and to graze--you can't use any chemicals or fertilizers. They are large and when they step on you, it hurts. But I LOVE having Caplin. He's so affectionate and he makes the cutest sounds.
te felicito hermano...que lindo carpincho!!!!!en muchas partes de sudamerica estan protegidos de los bestias que los cazan por placer , porque nisiquiera los comen. suerte!!!
They can give vicious bites. Caplin went through an aggressive period when he was about eight months old. He bit me just once (not for lack of trying) and took a chunk of flesh out of my leg even though he bit me through the seam of my jeans. But we worked through it and he doesn't bite now. You can read all about it on his MySpace blog. His MySpace name is Caplin Rous.
this is the first time ive seen these things not getting eaten by an anaconda

Say if I wanted to buy one in like 5 or 10 years as a pet, I live in Michigan, I am half Brasilian, what would I have to know and do first?!
Is it a long legal process to get one up here?

A question for the moderator.:
Does Caplin ever get "lonely", like you know, for a lady friend?
And how would he indicate that?
I'm guessing he'd be a chick magnet.
I think he's extremely handsome as far as capys go.
wheelinthesky300 1 year ago
@wheelinthesky300 Caplin certainly is a handsome capybara but he will never have a lady capybara friend since he is neutered.
caplincapybara 1 year ago
Caplin Rous is just a regular guy.
And he's not even a guy
-I mean, he's a rodent.
But for a rodent, he's a great guy.
I mean, he's so damn cool.
A smooth cat.

I hear they can give VICIOUS bites though. I saw an anaconda that suffered a 4 inch gash that was about an inch deep.
But that was in self-defence.
I LOVE THESE "GIANT GUINEA PIGS".

As a boy I was bitten by my Scottie when I (stupidly) tried to stop her eating the cat's food. I remember thinking "thank God she's not a Rottie".
I'm not suggesting that this applies in Caplin's case, but I simply wouldn't keep an animal whose goodwill could determine my survival!
Good luck with your fascinating relationship.
