@eujeeves: you could try another video player that supports hardware acceleration (dxva). I would suggest mediaplayer classic-home cinema. Or xbmc as shown in the video. Dxva offloads from the cpu, which is not too powerful.

Okay I'm about to lose it! I just saw the 1080p demo. I've bought mine bare bones on ebay. I've bought a Corsair SSD hard drive and 4GB DDR3 memory. I've installed Windows 7. I've installed ALL the drivers. I'm running it at 1920 x 1080 resolution. But when I play a 1080p mkv movie file it really struggles to maintain smooth frame rate.I check CPU usage and it's max'd out 100%. I'm running movies off VLC. Do I have to run movies off XBMC? I'm worried I've purchased a counterfeitZbox please help!

@bomfunk1991 Only if you have a small collection of films, get a big library and a smart TV won't cope. I have a smart Sony TV and it's slow and clunky compared to XBMC on a Zotac and it won't play some high bit-rate films well at all.

@andydiscovery yeah !! but my brother have a Samsung Led 3D smart tv and plays all his 1080p mkv movies in high profile 30-40 mbitrate just fine , they even have an option of internal hard drives :) and with the samsung app store he have netflix and all that good stuff that you will find on Zotac ..........i know what you have experienced but Sony is a little outdated in movie playback compared to Samsung :D

@bomfunk1991 Fair do's then to Samsung, tech is moving along so quick, I'm guessing it'll stream over a network too - the only problem (for me) with a Samsung is the fact it's a Samsung, I've had a few Samsung TV's and they've all gone wrong at least once and that leaves a long lasting bad taste, so it's either Panasonic for the big stuff or Sony for bedroom TV's for me I'm afraid.

How can you play a video that has 1 000 000 bird in it and lag but to play a stupid other video and not to lag ? It's a damm file that you are watching. There is no difference if you play a video with 1 billion balls flying toward a guy or to see 1 ball. I don't get it.

@SlideR270295 Essentially, it's due to the fact that there is a much larger amount of change happening in each pixel and also at a faster rate, or the color of each pixel constantly changing if you want to refer to it that way. Conversely, when there is very little happening on the video, the CPU has to process and send far fewer commands to the monitor.

I don't use VLC since it needs the CPU. Using GPU acceleration (at least for the modern GPU's) gives you advantages in terms of power usage, heat generation and thus cooling and noise.

@0Xkillerblood0 i do not care about power consumption, x6 beat i3 anytime especially IPC. i3 is the lowest core series, you really cant expect much, and VC or HT technology sometimes will reduce the speed for actual cores depending what you doing.

Oh and the X6 is 80$ more expensive and a good H67 board is cheaper than an AM3/AM3+ board with the power phases to handle the X6. BTW, you still didn't explain what IPC is. You know, the reason why the i3 wins with much lower clocks and a third of the cores. :)

@0Xkillerblood0 you have to know that score is varies depending on the programs. especially many games only use single thread or duel. also older programs are only designed to use many as 2 thread. the X6 will perform better as programs and technology progresses. if you want to compare a game that use 4thread instead the x6 would win. plus x6 is a better cpu for day to day bases. remember amd x6 1100T comes unlocked. main board depends on the manufacture and features.

@0Xkillerblood0 IPC-instruction per cycle. obviously when the dial on the chip is smaller the better it perform. however, 6 core have more resource than a dual core although HT techonology only increase 15-20 percent for highly threaded processing but it cannot not match the power house of 6 physical core. in these days who only run only 1 programs and wait, when you can do multi tasking without over load the cpu cause lag, and both is about the same price.

@joryomv I have played with boxee box beforehand and let me tell you this, the flash on that thing is horrible. Loading time is slow and the remote which is in theory a good feature slows things down. You cant use a keyboard/mouse with the boxee unlike this little mini pc that gives you XBMC and the option to boot from a plug & play OS! for 50$ more, i would get this Zotac Zbox, but hey, that's just my opinion :)
