dude im relatively new as well, started playing about a year ago with no lessons. What i did to start is practice alternate picking and learning scales. Search youtube for lessons, i highly recommend it.
Learn the pentatonic scales, basically every solo you've probably ever heard is based off them. I'd also recommend getting lessons, and make sure your always learning a new song, not just jamming all the time.

it really seriously isnt that bad, i actually like it. the only thing i want to suggest is to refrain completely from those metal sounding licks in there. this song has a style that just works, you can improve upon it, but only in the limits of that style, otherwise it just sounds like your playing a solo from another song that uses the same scale but superimposed onto this one. Dude, no offense, but either your playing the solo on the worng part of the fretboard or your guitar is a bit out of tune. I'm also pretty sure that you're playing a lead in the worng key as well. The song is in D and it looks like you're in B. So move up a couple frets.
And also I might suggest adding a little more low end to your tone, it sounds really, for the lack of a better word at the moment, washy. Just a suggestion though.

The only thing I have to say is that when you play power chords your hyper-extending your fingers, You might end up pulling a muscle , I did and i couldnt play for 3 weeks

You almost get it right!Some of the transposures are a little bit off.I'd give it an A for effort.

Oh yeah, Leslie's phrasing just punks anyone out that tries to solo with him. Its funny actually. Eddie Van Halen, Alvin Lee.. they all paled next to the Mountain man... unbelieveable and untouchable tone, vibrato... and phrasing from the GODS

Indeed - this was ages ago and dunno what people see in it. If i re did this it would be about 10 times better with my bends/techniques =)

Dude, no offense, but either your playing the solo on the worng part of the fretboard or your guitar is a bit out of tune. I'm also pretty sure that you're playing a lead in the worng key as well. The song is in D and it looks like you're in B. So move up a couple frets.
And also I might suggest adding a little more low end to your tone, it sounds really, for the lack of a better word at the moment, washy. Just a suggestion though.

Your wrong about the key - its more than likely out of tune.
About the tone though, your right, it's HORRIBLE. I don't even like this video clip, dunno why so many people say good things about it when i have far better, but its all appreciated i guess =)

Ofcourse there are strings on the guitar. The real song has lyrics and if you think thats all shredding you really don't know that much about guitar playing =)

Is it just me or are you using A Mac and garage band to lay down the base for that. I ask if it is garage band cause I use garage band a lot if I want to throw something together really quick and I don't need the extra headroom that Logic Gives me.

You missed kinda the basics...
1. Use your "pinky", as said before.
2. Don't let your fingers get bent in the "wrong" way, you gotta have more power in the finger tips, else you won't play guitar for 15 years ;-)
3. Bend your strings upwards, as said before
Yeah... But the rest is pretty good. Keep on working and get a guitar teacher.
