@m4jwilliams its big but not giant. granted you are brave for getting that close to something that big under water but its not "almost as big as my buddy".
@Lonlywolf89 Depending on cold water or warm water, you could buy a complete set of gear for $1000 or $700 about respectively, and you could then dive for basically free from the shore at that point (say $5/dive to get air in your tank) or do boat dives for around $30-$50/dive. And you could do that for hundreds of dives on that one set of gear...
@Lonlywolf89 I've done that too - however, as awesome as the rush is screaming to the ground, you just can't beat the hour + you get out of a dive (and it is a heck of a lot cheaper!)
@jman3267 I agree the longest known animal was a lions mane jellyfish that was 120 feet long. A bootleg worm that was 180 feet long was once found but they didnt count it because it was stretched to about 3x its normal length.
As huge as they get, I scuba dive and ive never seen anything like one, I hope I eventually will.....
I suppose i can see where you might think so. The Oral arms of that particular species do not show up well on camera, looking sort of Mop like. I tend to think of Medusas as being some of the most decorative and Beautiful creatures on the planet. Do a google image search for these - "Chrysaora achlyos" "Chrysaora colorata" "Periphylla periphylla" "Solmissus" "Aurelia aurita" or even just "Rhizostome" These aren't even the half of it.
Hnnnng holy shit.

weird to think their stings aren't strong enough to kill humans.

The average size of a Lion's Mane Jellyfish bell alone is 8 ft. The tentacles average out at about 90ft.

yeah why does it sound like flushing a toilet after taking a giant dump in it
trintrin326 1 year ago
isn't it extremely dangerous to be that close to one? im sure even a smaller one (by comparison) like that could sting and kill him quickly.
